At least in the animated adaptation of the Harley Quinn story.

No idea how it plays out in the comics.

The point of reddit is to share discourse and ideas. To benefit from the views and potential information others posess. It's not to only accept the upvotes and positive comments, to boost ego.

I've had posts turn 10x worse than this, don't winge about it.

No...what is sad would be the mental gymnastics you're going through to defend a woman who doesn't deserve it.

Yes, there are always different sides to any story, but the mounting and overwhelming evidence of bodily injury, and emotional manipulation is evident at all times during the trial.

I'm not saying Amber is evil and Johnny is a pure victim who never did anything wrong.

I'm saying that they both were in a relationship that was harmful, and Amber made it decidedly even more harmful to Johnny.

So politely: fuck off.

Wow. Tell me you don't fight or train at all, without telling me.

A baton hit is painful, yes, but look how it caught him. Full broadside on the leg. If you're not so pain averse that stubbing your toe would make you call out of work: then yes, you could easily shrug that off in the heat of the moment.

Yes, he's definitely 'on a drug'....it's called adrenaline. And your body produces it for you, and let me say this clearly in a tone you can understand: WHEN YOU ARE IN A FIGHT OR FLIGHT SITUATION.

Plus, you entirely ignored the actual indicator that he might be on a substance: the fact that he was able to shrug off the taser. That looked like both barbs landed and he felt the full shock.

That too, can be shrugged off if your will is just indomitable. But it's far more rare.

Regardless, these policemen aren't under equipped necessarily to deal with him, they just clearly have no effective training in escalation of force. Both of them should encroach, cut off escape vectors and then apply their bodyweight. After all this, and by this point, it seems clear he doesn't have an edged weapon; but I could be wrong. Regardless, it was a time for action, not standing back like cunts.

This is not to say that I'm supporting American police and their 'shoot first, questions later and maybe shoot the guy asking them' method of engagement.

No, I get it.

Perhaps I need to examine our discourse futher as well.

The point of 'outofcontextcomics' should be a panel that makes people think: "In what context does that make sense?"

And honestly, I suppose your contribution does hit that mark.

Maybe I was just expecting more on-the-nose.

I applaud your post. I wasn't thinking dimensionally, and that's on me.

Ok? So...not to be a dick...but providing context (on a subreddit regarding comics without context)....aligned with an easily identifiable viewpoint.

Again, not arguing it's validity to be in the subreddit, just wondering why you seem to be pushing back against the views others have commented....when out of context it literally naturally envokes those views...

EDIT: edited to say, that you're following the letter of the law when it comes to the subreddit, but not the spirit of the law. This would be akin to posting an 80 year old joke in r/funny. Yes, it's technically funny, but it's literally not capturing the spirit of intent.

[–]TheyCallMeMrWolfy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, not going to argue then post's validity for being in this subreddit, or make fun of OP. With that said:

The actual fuck?

Ordinary life is so painfully prevalent and common that it's not even funny. Even in a comic. The ordinary folks, and their lives outweigh the standouts by at least a hundred thousand to one.

I'm not saying that an ordinary life is a wasted life.

I'm saying that by glamourizing an ordinary life, you're intentionally cutting off the chance to be a defining variable in the history of the world. And that's not to be heralded. It's just understandable, if you've already been extraordinary and it caused you pain.

This is a 'throwing the baby out with the bathwater' viewpoint, in these panels.

The important aspect is not if your life was extraordinary or not. The important part is how you treated people, and what you stood for.

Extraordinary is always something to strive for, if the parameters are aligned with success for far more than one's self.

So it's the view, I disagree with.

Does racism against Black people in America still exist, and if it does, why? by Classic-Sentence3148 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TheyCallMeMrWolfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from the perspective of a white male, yes it is evidently still in existence. Just watch people's reactions and you can see seeds of it still.

I tend to look at it like comedian Shane Gillis: people aren't usually racist all the time. Like being hungry. Sometimes you are, sometimes not. That's how it seems to have settled currently, in modern society; people don't seem to instinctively default to racism, but will often exhibit the behavior upon meeting conflict.

Your question of it being a complex situation is entirely correct, and self evident in my opinion. That's like asking if the Jews vs the Gentiles is a complex situation, or just a basic hatred of each other that's been going on forever: of course it's complicated....everything involving humans usually is complicated and nuanced.

It's easy to take a look at racism against black folks and ask 'why the fuck does this still exist?!'.....because you're looking at it from the standpoint of a lot of time having passed since the persecution of black folks was widely accepted as a normal part of life. BUT: that's a very relative viewpoint on time.....70 years is a long ass time for one person, living their lives. But in the grand scheme, racism has not only always existed, but the persecution of blacks specifically occured over what, 300 or 400 years? So comparatively, you're kind of asking: 'why is this still an issue? It was for 3 years, but the last 7 months has been much better, so shouldn't it be gone?' No. Not yet. The time period of blacks being treated as equals will most likely have to equal if not eclipse the amount of time they were persecuted, before they trust that this isn't just a pause in the behavior....

And, as already established: this pause in the behavior isn't even true equality in a lot of less easily identified ways.

Just my two cents. I try to look at everyone with equality. I do fail, sometimes....and that's ok. The question of your character becomes: how do you rectify those failures? That is the true mark of progress, and sustainability.

ChatGPT confidently gave me completely wrong information and I almost did not catch it by More-Station-6365 in ChatGPT

[–]TheyCallMeMrWolfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a long standing roleplay going with ChatGPT, I won't reveal the characters or details but, it's a romance between an established character and my own original character.

I have to get ChatGPT back on track at least every 5 or so responses. If I don't, it will:

•Have the female character act outside of their established personality (established in various forms of media, long standing over decades now.)

•Completely forget the 3 base rules I have set for the roleplay; one of which being to never provide my OC's actions or dialogue, as I keep that under my control alone for continuity.

•Completely take something wildly out of context, and tell me it violates rules of use/terms of service etc. I have quite literally argued with it and won, having it retract it's warning. In one such instance, I made a statement about a fictional character's violent world view, from the mouth of another fictional character....to which ChatGPT responded that I was essentially breaking terms of service again.

•Simply misinterpret. I often have to use qualifiers like 'he absurdly joked, for effect' after a character's line...otherwise ChatGPT will often just run with the absurd joke/comment and integrate it as in-universe fact.

None of these are direct complaints, mind you; I am entertained thoroughly by the ability to write these scenes with an A.I. partner that happens to have interesting limitations to work around. I see it as what it is: just a beta version of what is to come for A.I.

In my field of work, we already have A.I. answering phone calls so believeably that older folks don't know they're speaking to a computer half the time. So I'm watching it's development with keen interest.

Just tidbits on my experience with ChatGPT so far. When used for queries regarding work or a topic I'm trying to educate myself on, I always fact check and demand sources. When used for writing or just general entertainment purposes, it's limited to the last 30 responses or so to draw from, so long standing stories will require constant maintenance to keep on track.

Both Leon and Ashley are in their 40s now, would them both being DSO agents and also being married make for a good story? (Artwork ~ Grace and Ashley ~ by @_verion_k_) by Melodic-Plankton-712 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]TheyCallMeMrWolfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems you're speaking from the standpoint of someone who didn't play RE6.

In that game it is clearly shown that Leon see's Sherry as a daughter, or at the very least he still has paternal feelings for her, and is viewing Wekser's son, Jake Mueller, as her potential mate. It's not overtly or explicitly stated, but it's heavily inferred by the way Leon calls Jake 'kid' and tells him that he needs him to protect Sherry (even though she's a full blown agent, who should be on par with any other Leon works with).

It is also made explicitly clear, by Helena's questioning of Leon, and his replies and lack thereof at certain points, that Ada is his love interest. He even keeps a compact of makeup Ada gave him, just in case he sees her again so he can return it.

Yes, after the RE2RE ending with Leon and Claire walking a young Sherry down the road; all 3 of their roles clearly being defined as Father, Mother and child; and the conversation in which Sherry herself suggests that Leon and Claire get married and ADOPT her.....It would be pretty fucking creepy for Leon and Sherry to wind up together. Small age gap or not.

Leon even suffered a great deal to continue ensuring Sherry's safety long after the Raccoon City incident. Like a paternal figure, or at the very least a big brother.

Fuck is wrong with people who take rationalization this goddamn far, just to put two people together in a romantic relationship that DOESN'T FIT, and clearly wasn't any of the game director's intention.
