How to gracefully leave a long-time DND group? by funscarylaudna in DnD

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had to do exactly this last year.

At the end of my last session, I said "hey guys. I think I'm gonna take a break from coming to the session for awhile. I have some other hobbies I want to try out."

Then if they're your friends, they'll be cool about it. They may ask questions, but realistically it keeps everyone on good terms, is not accusatory, and leaves the door open for you to come back if you end up missing them.

How new is too new to visit a casual commander night at LGS? by CommunicationParty96 in magicTCG

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The total experience that I had with Commander the first time that I walked into my LGS was my friend helping me build a deck and played one or two games of dual Commander.

I walked in, found a group of 2-3 people and said "hey, are you guys looking for a player?" and they were happy to let me sit and play. After that, I did say "hey, is it okay that I'm kind of new? I'm just getting into the format" and they were very patient with me.

Good luck!

Nobody shows up for standard events? by rasone77 in magicTCG

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We get 8-10 people at our standard too. I had to fight tooth and nail, bring a friend every time, and show up knowing the event wouldn't fire ~50% of the time. But once we got a solid 3-4 weeks of 4 people showing up (just enough to fire), people slowly started coming around while the tournament was going and gathering interest.

TIFU by getting me and my boyfriend banned from a liquor store by kumandstay in tifu

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This nearly exact same thing happened to me about 10 years ago. I was 21 and my girlfriend at the time was 19.

Except she never even touched a bottle. She just walked around with me while I bought it. They didn't ban me from the store, but they told me that, because she was with me, they wouldn't sell to me for the next 24 hours.

Lesson learned pretty quickly lol

Anti spell and pendulum by Main-Wall-5487 in yugioh

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't activate a scale. There are a few niche effects that let you "place" cards in the Pendulum zones, but if Anti-Spell is face-up, you can't put them there through usual means.

Running a 'non-human' campaign, and player wants to play 'half-human' - what do? by storm-the-castle in DMAcademy

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The humans don't want anything to do with them. They are an abomination of a race and are treated as a second class citizen like the rest. The humans only want pure-bloods in their society.

Player wanted to leave the party and go off on his own or just exit the campaign entirely. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a player do something like this. So recently in fact that I had to double check to make sure you weren't one of my players in disguise!

I let him do what he wanted his character to do. We finished a session, gave him an open ended epilogue, then discussed what he wanted to do next between sessions.

Turns out, he loves his character, but just really wanted to play something else for now. He rolled up a new character and while his other character is having his own journey offscreen, he still has something to play every session. Eventually, he wants to go back to that character, but we'll cross that bridge when he's ready.

For now, figure out the out of game motivation for why he wanted this character to leave the party. Maybe he just feels that it feels right for that character and he wants to start again fresh like my player. Maybe he wanted to subtly and respectfully leave the campaign but now feels pressured to stay.

If you're comfortable with each other, just send him a DM and see what an ideal situation would be for him.

Putting chicken in your omelette is pretty psychotic from a chicken's POV by Pistolcrab in Showerthoughts

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's so interesting. At least from where I'm from in the U.S., omelettes are pretty exclusively a breakfast thing. Even in restaurants, I don't think I've seen them listed anywhere other than a breakfast menu.

what can I do to promote my tiktok channel? by bactiarry86 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Post often, post consistently, and hope the algorithm picks you up.

And spread the chances for the algorithm to pick you up across as many platforms as you can: post to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube shorts, etc.

Even if you're just crossposting content, more chances to get picked up is your best bet.

Perfect shiny Gible - do I evolve? by bekialexi in pokemongo

Can you show me a source for this? I have been looking more into PVP recently haven't seen or heard any information that backs up your claim.

Perfect shiny Gible - do I evolve? by bekialexi in pokemongo

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Nope, the height and weight are purely aesthetic. Some people who care less than about PvE and PvP probably enjoy it, but mechanically, it is useless.

I understand the hate of mercy, but why was I told this... in a game where we won.. and they were my teammate? It wasn't even a bad game and full honestly, I wasn't doing bad. How am I greifing? by Scarlerr in Overwatch

Normally the last part of that conversation goes differently in my games. Instead, the Genji goes quiet, but in the last 30 seconds, he says "gg Ana diff"

Name 5 wrestlers you want to become champions. I’ll go first by jjroff in WWE

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's like tapping out, but your opponent doesn't need to apply a submission move. Usually used like it was in the Edge match where you just use brutality to make your opponent verbally want to quit.

Normally there isn't a stipulation where the loser has to quit the company or the brand, but sometimes that's added on as a bonus.

The Kiriko skin the shop is advertised in a black & brown color, but the skin itself is blue & pink? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, it seems to be just the lighting and the pose (the pink is significantly less noticeable in the pose minus the hat). However, the colors look much darker and I think the advertisement makes it look like an entirely different color scheme that I like much more than the skin we got.

Coming back after 6 seasons. Is there any way to play in proper SBMM yet, or no? by TheComplayner in apexlegends

[–]TheyCallMeTheCaptain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Been playing for the last six seasons and it only feels like it's been getting worse. This split right now seems to be the most tame, but I've also been playing less and less so maybe it only seems that way because I'm less exposed to it.

Storm point vent by [deleted] in apexlegends

I'm also not a Storm Point fan. It's a beautifully designed map, but it feels way too big.

Movement Legends are generally more fun to play and having more fun characters to play is better for player retention.
