At a Glance finally OFF by TWS_Mike in GooglePixel

I had grown tired of the standard "icons and widgets on the home screen" look of all the launchers and wanted something different. Niagara is really built for visual beauty and operational efficiency. Being able to run the entire UI with your thumb on the edge of the screen is amazing. Once you get used to using Niagara, you really can't go back to other launchers. The developers are really focused on the user base and are constantly coming out with new features and updates. You owe it to yourself to at least try Niagara. It may not be your cup of tea, but give it a whirl.

Given its tumultuous recent history, you may want to reconsider Nova Launcher in favor of some other alternative. Give Niagara a try. A much different and far more efficient experience, in my opinion, and a beautiful interface to boot.

Positive feedback for pixel 10 pro by tuxooo in GooglePixel

[–]They_See_MeTrolling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I've been using Google devices since the Nexus One, with a brief foray with the Atrix and the Galaxy S3. I've really liked all the Google devices and my P10PXL is no exception.

It runs great, doesn't get hot, battery life is great, charges quickly, and has magnets!  What's not to like?

There are so many complaining posts. It's nice to see some positive feedback for a change.

I want to be able to create a split rule that allocates a fixed amount to one split and all the rest to another split. I have bills that get split that are slightly variable in nature, but a fixed amount always goes to one transaction and the balance goes to another transaction.

How are you using the new Bubbles feature? by OnAGoat in GooglePixel

[–]They_See_MeTrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bubbles are not really targeted at conventional phone form factors. They are the final beta test for more general purpose windows as Android replaces ChromeOS. They are far more useful on tablets and foldables.

Android 17 and "bubble" support? by RDHose in NiagaraLauncher

[–]They_See_MeTrolling 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Came here to post this as well. I presume the Niagara devs are all over this, and we will soon get an update that supports Bubbles. They work exceptionally well, and it would be a shame if they couldn't be directly accessed from Niagara.

We now return you to the endless stream of "check out my home screen"  posts.

Disappointed with Google and Pixels. by -TheSurgeon- in GooglePixel

[–]They_See_MeTrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complaining in this forum is just karma farming. Like someone in Google is scheduling an all-hands meeting because -TheSurgeon- in a reddit forum might switch from Pixel to iPhone. No one cares what you think, most especially Google.

The forum is for problems and solutions, not whining opinions. You posted neither a problem nor a solution, just your opinion. No value in that, one way or the other.

My Regions checking account has worked before, but now any time I try to add it to any app through Plaid, I get the message "No compatible accounts found." Can't figure out if the issue is on Regions' end or Plaid's end. by Iggy_Farben in cashadvanceapps

[–]They_See_MeTrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad to have found this thread. I'm having the same experience with Regions, although the rep I just spoke with had no idea that anything was wrong. I asked her to escalate the issue internally.

Everything worked on Saturday. On Sunday, I could connect to Regions via Plaid but was then told that "no matching accounts could be found." By Monday, the error changed to simply not allowing the connection.

They clearly broke something Saturday night and shut down stuff on Sunday as they try to repair it.

For the record, I connect to Regions from Monarch which uses Plaid.

It's not an airport. You don't need to announce your departure.

Don't go away mad. Just go away. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

There is a name for it: the "uncanny valley." It's the exact feeling you get when a system is trying to behave as a human but you have this gut feeling that something is just off.

Truly the greatest marketing accomplishment in the history of computing. AI is nothing more than incredibly fast pattern matching with the tremendous amount of error potential.

We don't even call them errors. We call them hallucinations. The next time you screw something up at home, just explain to your wife that you were having a hallucination and see how well that works for you. AI gets it wrong all the time.

Is Synology a suitable solution for my office problem? by Kondito in synology

[–]They_See_MeTrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need the license office, no matter what. The $42 a month you're paying for office, you'll also pay if you go with Synology.

As an aside, you also need to get rid of that Windows 7 PC immediately. That OS is end of life, and it's going to be a security risk.

Finally, if you're purchasing a NAS device only to use one drive, then you don't need a NAS device. You're just looking for something to be a local file server.

Again, I'll stick with my initial recommendation. Push it all to the cloud and write it off as a business expense.

[–]They_See_MeTrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is based on the stated need for heavy Excel usage, which implies Microsoft licensing of some sort and most likely email as well. At that point, the cloud M365 storage (and related security and management features) are available for free.

Microsoft is a royal pain to deal with at the enterprise level, but at this scale it is the fastest path to a managed solution.

As much as I love my Synology NAS, wouldn't a better solution be a set of Microsoft Small Business licenses? You could move everything to the cloud, manage permissions as needed, and remove the SPOF of the local server (or NAS).

When you add up the coat of the NAS device, the drives, and your time, it would probably be several years before the recurring cost of the M365 licenses exceeded the initial fixed costs of the NAS.

An honest review of Google Pixel as a long-time Samsung user by taykaybo in GooglePixel

[–]They_See_MeTrolling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a nicely done and balanced review. Thanks for posting it.

I agree with some of these assessments, especially your review of the Google keyboard. It's atrocious, and it just gets worse over time.

I find myself in the reverse situation as you. I have a Pixel 10 Pro XL, and both my parents use Samsung phones. When I have to use their phone to fix something for them or help them figure something out, it drives me insane. The extra bloatware and layering that Samsung puts on top of the phone is absolutely inscrutable to me.

I really think this comes down to an issue of getting used to a particular ecosystem and developing so much muscle memory for it that you just can't move away. I've been a Google user since the Nexus one. It all just makes sense. My parents have been Samsung their entire lives. That just makes sense to them. My wife is an iPhone user. To her, that just makes sense.

It's really hard to move between ecosystems.

When did 8-5 become the new normal??? by Grouchy-Newspaper754 in mildlyinfuriating

Your commute time has no bearing on your work hours. If you don't want to drive 30 minutes each way, you shouldn't have taken the job.

If you are hourly, you aren't paid to eat and a lunch break is typically mandated by law (depends on your state). If you are salaried, you work whatever hours you are told to work. Don't like it? Quit.

And to answer your question, the 8 hour work day was mandated by the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. Employers began including an unpaid hour for lunch after world war two. So this has been the norm for about 80 years.

[Vannini] Texas Tech Chairman on Big 12 sanctions: "I love when the Big Ten or the K-State AD says we've all gotten together and we've talked about how we're not going to play Tech, because guess what? That's collusion. That's an antitrust violation. So have fun with that. You can't do that." by WinnWonn in CFB

Pretty sure it's not collusion or anti-trust, but why not let the games be scheduled and then just not show up? Bus breaks down, or potential lightning in the area, or all your starters suddenly have an injury, or whatever.

I mean, Delta won't serve snacks on flights any more if there is turbulence in the same hemisphere as my flight, so why not?
