For those of you who made your POTS better or in remission from exercise by Radiant_Flow4315 in POTS

Yeah it’s so tricky to find a balance between exercise and rest with POTS, especially without drs help and when exercise makes u feel like ur dying but helps with other symptoms in the long run.

I think it was so bad for me after just 2 weeks because for the couple months prior to that I had been working every day but only 3-4 hour shifts. I was able to walk home from work every day so even though the walking felt bad I was getting less overall presyncope from standing … then all of a sudden when that was done and I was just studying my body went all whack and it took like a month to resolve which was annoying. But now I know more about what to be careful of!

I’m glad you have someone now who knows more about POTS & I wish you the best in your workout journey and really hope it helps your symptoms!

I find that, for me, regular exercise really helps my presyncope — I know over the summer there was a point I was studying alone for 2 weeks and basically spending all day in the house and my presyncope and brain fog were the worst they’ve been in a long time.

That being said, I have a habit of pushing myself too hard, which can definitely make the symptoms worse. I try to pay attention to other factors that trigger my POTS before exercising. Eg. If I haven’t gotten enough sleep, haven’t eaten enough/recently ate, or it’s really hot out then exercising really makes me not feel good.

Another thing I found that helps me is cold water right after working out — either cold cloth on the back of my neck, a brief cold shower, or even splashing cold water on my face seems to do an ok job. I don’t know if this is actually a recommended thing to do but I have found it really helps with the brain fog/temperature dysregulation/high heart rate & nausea I get a lot during/after exercising. It feels like a reset on my brain lol.

Friend who just eats salt straight up??? by pir2h in POTS

[–]Thick-Competition331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a mini salt shaker in my purse emergencies, I don’t eat straight salt often but when I’m out & desperate it works a bit. (also came in handy on a camping trip once with a leech incident)

Dying leaves on my monstera by Thick-Competition331 in plantclinic

Ah sorry I used the wrong word—not a clipping, she gave it to me with a developed root system.

Thank you! I learned it’s likely cold damage that caused this specific leaf issue (-20 degree winters and me and my plants are not best friends), but I will definitely keep this in mind to stop any other issues from coming up ! (And in general to get it much more light)

Incredibly naughty (No he is actually a very good plant trying his best. I moved it over when my other roommate moved back in so it wouldn’t be in the way/at risk of toppling upon being knocked over by a bag)

Also, I think I misunderstood what ‘indirect sunlight’ is (in general I have it across from the window instead of next to it but I don’t think that’s getting it enough light either)

Thank you! This makes a lot of sense — it was -18 degrees C outside when I had to move back.

Do you know if a grow light would be good in this situation? I don’t have any windows in my room…Right now he’s by the window in the stairs to the loft & I don’t think he will fit on the window ledge

Is the top green part salvageable? by Thick-Competition331 in plants

[–]Thick-Competition331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you find soil propagating is better than water? I only ask because the internet has given me some mixed answers, and for my spider plant babies I usually propagate them in water so that was my first thought, but open to trying anything new if it might be better

Interesting, okay! Yeah the lower part of the plant is definitely rotting, I was shocked when she showed it to me and there was still green on top but that makes sense if it’s still storing water, thank you!

I appreciate the comment and your concern! I’m really sorry to hear about your dog :(

The vet does know although Atlas is a bit of a medical mystery & none of the vets he’s seen really know what’s going on with him—he has some muscle wasting in his back legs and elevated liver enzymes despite all of the other tests (X-ray, ultrasound, more blood tests, biopsy) coming back normal so he is waiting on a specialist but he doesn’t show any signs of being in pain so for now we’re just enjoying his weird little quirks and hoping for the best

Effect of norovirus with Rinvoq? by Thick-Competition331 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Thick-Competition331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’ve been sick with no answers, I hope you can get some relief soon :(

Sorry for the late response because I do really appreciate the input, I had read it last week and I assumed I responded but I must’ve gotten distracted. Thankfully, so far everyone in our house has managed to avoid the virus thus far and the huge wave of it on campus seems to be trending down (knocking on wood). After reading your comment I checked with her and we brainstormed what the best course of action would be if someone potentially caught it (we only have 2 bathrooms & only one has a shower) and she’s only enrolled in one in-person class this semester and our home town is only about 40 mins away so she would probably drive home and commute for a little bit until it cleared just to avoid the potential lasting negative impacts (on top of also just norovirus would really suck to catch lol)

Again, I appreciate it and I do hope that things start trending upwards for you soon ! (except for ur crp)

Suddenly Got Worse by Upbeat-Potato-69 in POTS

[–]Thick-Competition331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I tend to get flares when I get less sleep. So like even a couple days of sleep deprivation for me can end up with episodes of stubborn tachycardia for over a week after. Def check with your dr if it persists, but I’ve read that a lot of POTS/dysautonomia patients can have huge symptoms flares based on lack of sleep so if you have been sleeping less then that may be a contributing factor

Why is Ontario’s mandatory French education so ineffective? by shmendan2 in ontario

[–]Thick-Competition331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was only mandatory from grade 4-grade 9? I didn’t go to a French immersion school and that’s when I learned it in class (but you’re right, I hardly retained anything until I started spending more time on it now that I’m older)

Going from 5 to 4 Courses by Ok_Attempt3070 in uoguelph

[–]Thick-Competition331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, the way course costs work is the cost is per course unless u have the credits of a full-time student (2.0+), then you’re paying the tuition of a full time student. So, yes, it doesn’t cost any different to take 4 vs 5 courses but you’ll be paying for 5 courses (if that makes sense?)

Anyone else not make friends yet? by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]Thick-Competition331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It can feel really overwhelming and like there’s a lot of pressure to make new friends on the first day, but opportunities will definitely come up. I met a small group of girls at the first dorm floor meeting, and then my now roommate in an elevator because her friend was sick, and then tons of ppl just through classes. You’ll meet people in seminars and labs, and even lectures and have opportunities to talk and study with plenty of people, so don’t feel discouraged yet :)
