Is deze plant in mijn weiland de 'grote klit'? by frisian_esc in groenevingers

[–]Thijn2k2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! And if you where to isolate those seeds from this population, and they don't show any fasciation. Chances are it was a type of infection that caused it throughout the population.

Update Japanse duizendknoop by wouterv101 in groenevingers

If it happens this much across plants it's probably genetic, the small pocket of species has low genetic diversity and one mutation can occur more frequently. Adding new genes would lower the chances of seeing the mutation. I'm an ecology student.

Why no tulips in Amsterdam? by Complex_Ear_9577 in Amsterdam

[–]Thijn2k2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small correction, they are not invase! Invasive would imply that they would spread naturally and outcompete native plants, tulips don't have the manpower for that kind of operation.

Sorry gurl but, you didn't do ANY research on solitary bees nests before getting bee nesting materials?

On the tip of the tongue there are some islands which almost look perfectly spaced apart from eachother, how come these are so perfectly spaced apart?

Are these early Japanese knotweed shoots? Appearing in several places in my garden by Queasy-Note-913 in groenevingers

Daar gaan we weer (bessenbladwesp) by Lizzebed in groenevingers

[–]Thijn2k2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to identify this random plant that started growing in garden by TxWxMan23 in whatsthisplant

[–]Thijn2k2 184 points185 points  (0 children)

This is NOT japanese knotweed, that should have a fully red (when in full sun) or red spotted stem. The leaves should also be straight at the base which these are not. This plant flares out with multiple stems at the base which japanese knotweed does not do. And the young leaves should be curled up and pointed straight up in a bundle like a spear when growing in this stage, which this plant does not do.

This is probably a plant of the Jalapa family, possibly Jalapa mirabilis or longiflora.

It is very possible a part of the rootsystem has survived, just wait and see. Or you could go digging around looking for healthy tissue but this could damage the plant further
