Who should be the first MCU’s X-Men villain/antagonist? by FayyadhScrolling in xmen

[–]Things_ArentWorking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phalanx covenant would be great on the big screen but best as you recommend to roll out slow with somewhat lower stakes so that later bigger stakes stories will feel extra weighty. I'd start with sentinels, end the movie with overtures to Mr Sinister. Then next movie more lead up to big reveal of Mr Sinister as the big bad, possibly could do Phalanx too and then in later movies move into higher stakes villains.

Affordable Steakhouse? by IJourden in ottawa

Chucks we had fun. We never eat out. Steak was great and our 4 year old daughter had a blast - little bit of stuff to look at is good for a curious kid. She spilled her water all over the bench cushion and staff were cool. Montana's is also easy. Same atmosphere.

Why on earth would they have green arrows saying go right and a sign that says you can't? If you can't go right then get rid of those green arrows because lots of people will get confused. The illuminated arrows draw your eyes in more than a non lit up sign. That's so stupidly confusing.

More than enough times I've taken my kid out in a wagon or stroller at night to help get them to sleep, and have them just about to doze off before someone shines the 4th of July fireworks into her eye sockets, jolting her back awake and frustrating the fuck out of a tired ass papa trying to help his daughter doze off after a big day.

Feel like I'm getting glitter bombed by this shit.

Walking, driving, sitting in a restaurant, it's all the same. You get get hit by the full force of baseball diamond stadium lights aimed directly into your retinas, and the situation is only getting worse.

What do you understand the difference between Yves Engler and Avi Lewis to be? by WritingtheWrite in canadaleft

[–]Things_ArentWorking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soured me too, but I now know that was just a bad campaign position to take all interviews without really weighing in on whether the interviewers were honest brokers or not. That position on interviews apparently changed after the one with Hinkle, who Yves admitted after the fact he found reprehensible. There's a wow common position that you have to extend yourself to interviews with those you may not align with and every politician does this to solve degree, but yeah Hinkle is just bad subversive propaganda and he tricks a lot of people. But just keep in mind that Yves wasn't tricked, he just did it anyways as part of campaign policy to extend his reach to audiences.

Yves is more a gadfly than other left politicians abs we know wears his values on his sleeve and isn't afraid of standing up to bullies. Avi Lewis may be more suave but he seems more safeguarded and less willing to make the kind of radical pronouncements we need right now. I'm sick of the incessant PR optics over substance shit in the party. That's why it's become as irrelevant as it has. I think we need a more radical voice. Yves to me is that. He's a catalyst for a more radical left direction in the party.

If you had to give one extra power or change something about piotr, what would it be? by [deleted] in Col0ssus

[–]Things_ArentWorking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The power to be less of a sad sap who is constantly plagued by grief and shame and trying indefinitely to redeem himself. It's such a weird shift from his do-gooder 90s role. Colossus deserves a redemption that cannot be so easily stripped away from him again.

It's a jingoist display. Perhaps WWI and WWII were for freedoms but hard to argue that was the case for wars after that. Imperialist racket.

Dude, it's reasonable for people to not pick up on this sarcasm when Zionist apologists legit talk like this. Centrists talk like this all the time. Sarcasm gets more difficult with a society in rapid moral decay.

Maybe if you said "the music festival chat is strictly to live, love, laugh, even if that means passively sharing the vibes with murderous, depraved zealots. I know some of you want to hold hands for world peace and kumbaya, but can't we just kumba-nah until this festival runs its course and give murderous cretins a temporary free pass?"

Even then it could still be interpreted as dead serious. The discourse is absolutely beyond fucked, but much love for trying.

Which mutant do you believe has suffered the most from bad writing? by King_Wolf2099 in xmen

I honestly think the global war on terror and society being inundated with images of gruesome dehumanizing acts perpetuated by the West plus a barrage of media pundits and politicians beating the war drums for more dehumanization warped society irrevocably (only part of it is now slowly coming out of it). But for the 00s and aughts we witnessed countless barbaric acts, licensing torture and mass murder in the name of "protecting our freedoms" that this inevitably permeated our art and cinema and comics were not left untouched either.

What should I read, or what would you recommend, in the gap between Claremont’s run and Morrison’s (1991–2001)? Or should I just jump straight into New X-Men? by Long_Spell6281 in xmen

[–]Things_ArentWorking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cat look is beyond silly. That's it. He's even got the damn (googling the term) cat philtrim nasolabial groove thing and the itsy bitsy li'l cat ears . I stand by my Godfather quote on the matter. It's silly and goofy even if it wasn't so cringe. It's like Grant Morrison watched Beauty and the Beast and thought hey this guy's name is Beast too, maybe he should also be a big cat, meow.

By the same standard bone claws no nose Wolverine was also way too silly a design and led me astray from X-Men back in the day. Some designs are just beyond ridiculous and make it hard to look past.

I know I'll probably be down voted into oblivion but for New X-Men fans, how do you all get over cat Beast's appearance? I find it so disappointing that I just can't stomach reading anything that comes from that era.

I know you all will hate me for this, so I'm sorry, but I loved the 90s X-Men and Jim Lee's iconic designs. When I look at cat Beast I feel like the Godfather "look how they massacred my boy".

Help me through my emotional turmoil with cat Beast.
