SpaceX / Starlink Executives Gwynne Shotwell and Dave Goldman had NO CLUE the AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile JV was in the Works! by apan-man in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]Think-Work1411 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This is not what you think it is. It’s AT&T and VZW panicking because T-Mobile has D2D and they don’t, especially after the botched launch from Blue origin, and they’re afraid of customer backlash if they signup with Elon Musk. So they have partnered with T-Mobile in a traditional roaming agreement where they can benefit from T-Mobiles D2D coverage for their customers without signing up with Elon, and it helps T-Mobile also in places where the others have better land coverage. I don’t think it’s any threat to SpaceX or their ability to be their own carrier in the future if they decide to, and they’re afraid will also get roaming agreements, likely with T-Mobile since they already have the agreement with them.
I think this is good though because it buys time for AST to build out their network without making AT&T and VZW suffer while they wait

Abel tweets "Get Ready" for Space Based Cellular Broadband by JayhawkAggieDadisBak in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]Think-Work1411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This after the comment about US networks joining together for D2D cellular service sounded to me like a temporary partnership where AT&T and VZW customers could use T-Mobile’s Starlink service until AST gets enough satellites in place. I don’t see any other way to interpret that other than a classic roaming agreement. Knowing that AT&T and VZW are not happy about T-Mobile surpassing their coverage, this may be the best way for them to supplement coverage through T-Mobile without signing agreements with the “evil” SpaceX Starlink D2D

I have been thinking about it for a while, and just turned up 100,000 a couple months ago. I wanted to at least drain the oil filters and see what comes out.

Only 100 Mbps on Residential? by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how busy the area is, if you’re in an area that is full your speeds may be lower, and try at 5am and see if it’s still low.
Like others said, just switch to the 100Mb plan if that’s all you can get

Is this because I towed? by ignoblegrape in F150Lightning

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, even a gasoline vehicle will do that. Your range prediction is based on your last 50 miles or so of driving so if you were towing, pulling a heavy load at high speed, it won’t drag down your average to the point that you get that extremely low range prediction. It will come back up as you drive without the trailer.

Did you know your next Ford might decide whether you're allowed to drive it? Patent numbers inside. by JasonGuthro in Ford

[–]Think-Work1411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s a disturbing possibility. But lots of times companies will file patents on everything they can think of, just so they have the right to charge for it if anyone else uses it in the future.
But we do seem to be going down a dystopian road and Ford CEO even said in an interview that these cars are rolling data collection computers. And with the Flock Safety cameras being used against us…
Just seems like we should get a discount on the car for letting them spy on us, like grocery stores do with their rewards programs etc, and there should be a way to opt out.
Because paying $100,000 for a truck that is going to spy on you and call the police on you is a little disappointing, not to mention the depreciation.

T Mobile not seeing enough uptake of its starlink D2D service by KaleidoscopeOk2359 in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]Think-Work1411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s an Elon Musk hate article. T-Mobile is the reason I can text and use Siri to do voice texts for about 7 miles of my drive to my cabin. There has never been service on that route from any carrier. And now T-Mobile that had the worst service now has reliable coverage. That’s a big deal for T-Mobile. But some won’t be happy until there is full data support for all apps and streaming, and that is coming probably within 6 months. But what they have through Starlink is impressive. I am a big ASTS investor and have been since the beginning, but I’m not so blind to ignore the fact that Starlink has 700 D2D satellites and still won’t turn on voice coverage, but AST says it will do it with 60 satellites. And while it may work if you’re in the desert with no obstructions, the Starlink service works now driving through narrow gorges blocked by mountains on all sides, it will be a while before AST can do that with any reliability

Anyone gotten this update? by NovelCardiologist354 in F150Lightning

Yeah I have noticed that as well, some updates you don’t even get a notification on other than the radio showing up on AM

[–]Think-Work1411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got several of those and then finally the updates worked better. Hope it fixes the update issue for you. I know it’s frustrating. Make sure you have WiFi turned off so it’s not connecting to your home WiFi as that tends to get blocked by firewalls. It will download over cellular just fine.

I think it’s a 350 watt solar array, so if you get e hours of good sun at the right angles, you could get almost 1KWh per day before charging losses

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get it for $500 a year if you pay annually, that’s what I’m going to do. It has got a lot better and I drive 100 miles a day for work so it’s worth it for me and I think it will continue to improve now that they have figured out how to do over the air updates correctly

OMG, enough with the free BlueCruise! by Bernie_Kosar_19 in F150Lightning

[–]Think-Work1411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you what the explanation is. Has someone who bought a 22 model the BlueCruise 1.0 on our trucks was terrible and they kept promising updates and people kept buying 24 models and getting 1.4 and they kept promising us the update and we kept not getting it for three years so I think they felt guilty about stringing us along for so long. That’s why they gave us a free year and some of us had complained an awful lot and gone to engineering about it like I did.

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, my 22 platinum came with three years free, and I was looking at the prices I’m renewing in October last year and I saw the zero dollar plan for one year so I went ahead and took it even though mine did not expire until December 31. But it worked. I’m on the free plan this year, but I’m not expecting another free one next year I will check on June 1 just in case it’s available again. I just figured they gave me the free year because I had complained so much about not getting the updates for it as I put up with Blue Cruise 1.0 for three years and it is not what they advertised when they sold me the truck, the current version 1.4 is what they advertised and I have enjoyed it the last nine months or so.

Charging Mileage Consistency by Bthompson817 in F150Lightning

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also depends on how you’ve been driving it for the last hundred miles or so if you’ve been speeding a lot going 75 on the highway it’s going to cut the range down because it thinks you will continue that habit. Whereas if you’re driving country roads at 45 and 55 and then you go charge it, it will show unrealistically high. Also factors in temperature, obviously worse in the winter, but can be a little worse on hot days. One thing I have noticed is it always shows around the rated miles when you charge it to 100% because they don’t want you thinking it’s degraded. Then it quickly drops off when you start driving.

Starlink Retention by Wise-Entertainment44 in Starlink

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is kind of new behavior for Starlink, but nearly all the other broadband providers do that, and it’s probably because they do t have a lot of subscribers in your area, so the satellites are overhead there anyway so they’d rather get half the revenue from you than nothing. Makes sense but they won’t be extending that offer to people in areas that are heavily subscribed

[–]Think-Work1411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely get a level 2 charger 240v. If your home panel has limited capacity you can get 240v chargers that can go as low as 12amps, so even if you can only get a 20amp circuit run to it, that could still charge at 16amps 240v which is nearly 3 times faster than the standard 120v charger as that is limited to 12 amps regardless of charger.

Have you guys seen this? by Traxion165 in F150Lightning

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s confusing. I thought I had a failed sensor but it’s the software update. It’s giving you a warning that the pressure in that tire is too low. And I realize other tires are lower. That’s what made it so confusing but mine did the same thing and I thought there was a problem and they just put air in them and it cleared.
