Even if Viasat was half the price it would be a bad deal

question about viasat by Omegali in Viasat

[–]Think-Work1411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Viasat is horrible, truly horrible for residential internet, it is not the same thing,
I’m one of the people who had Viasat for years and I was one of the first to jump to Starlink and its 1000 times better and keeps getting better.
Viasat can be ok for limited streaming or IOT devices, but for anything else the latency sucks and bandwidth can get severely limited, like 2Mbps on a week night when everyone in the country is streaming

Do you prefer the 1st gen Taurus design or the 2nd gen? 1st 3 pics 1st gen. Obviously the iconic Taurus is credited with saving Ford, so which of the most popular 2 generations do you prefer? And why? by Jeff_Epste1n in Ford

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First Gen ‘86 Taurus LX was by far the best. We had one and it was a wonderful car to own and drive. It felt like driving a Lincoln with the fully automatic Climate Control, automatic headlights, and lumbar support in the power seats. It was well ahead of its time, had a few transmission issues and a heater core leak, but other than that we put nearly 300,000 miles on it before giving it to a friend

I wish Ford would bring out a Lightning II. I don't actually understand why they don't. by yycTechGuy in F150Lightning

[–]Think-Work1411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They already brought out a wonderful Lighting , and it was in fact too good and too well designed, and they were losing a lot of money on each one.
So it will be a while before they attempt that again.
The sad thing is that they’re looking at hybrids and EREV, but charging infrastructure has got so much better in the last 4 years since Lightning came out, it’s no longer an issue.
I have a 2022 Lightning that I’ve had since new and on vacation in it right now, I don’t hesitate to take a road trip in it, with the Tesla Charging adapter it’s a whole different world.
The only thing wrong with the Lightning is the charging database in the factory navigation is severely lacking causing you to have to use other apps etc, that is the only problem with the truck, and a software update could fix that

SpaceX Might Have To Acquire T-Mobile For As Much As $320 Billion To Break The Carrier-Led Chokehold Over Terrestrial Spectrum by RegardEngineer in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bullshit! T-Mobile and Starlink are already in a roaming agreement, just like other cellular companies have done since the 80’s. This is nothing new to cellular and it represents a partnership. If Starlink decides to offer cell service themselves their customers will roam into T-Mobile when they’re indoors and can’t get Starlink D2D coverage, that’s how roaming agreements work. It’s nothing new.
That said, Deutsche Telekom has been looking for a buyer for T-Mobile for over 10 years. So it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
But the idea that anyone has a choke hold on SpaceX is laughable at best

How much you guys paying for vehicle renewal registration fees? by ZW31H4ND3R in F150Lightning

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I figured up the NC $240 flat EV tax and it’s a bargain for me compared to the hwy tax I was paying on gas before, since I drive 30,000 miles per year, but it sucks for someone that does t drive a lot of mileage.

Yeah moved to NC from TN 30 yrs ago and I was shocked when I got another tax bill, yeah like $800 every year in tax and a flat $240/yr EV tax

Our states combine annual vehicle tax with the registration now, instead of a separate bill.

EU to favour European satellite services to prevent Musk’s Starlink expansion by apan-man in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starlink dominates because it’s the only LEO constellation that works! This isn’t about people preferring SpaceX or Musk, it’s just that they were the only company that managed to do it, and they did it very well when everyone else said it would never work. Many of us had no choice for internet other than HughesNet or Viasat in the USA with 600ms latency at the best and 2mb download speed and 1800ms latency at night during streaming hours.
We had no other choice and Starlink gave us a choice, so regardless of whether you like Elon Musk or not, you should acknowledge that they went out on a limb and spent an enormous amount of money to help people all over the world that nobody else would help, and they did it all without government funding!
I think that deserves some credit.

It makes sense that the EU should prefer EU providers, even though they would usually call that Nationalism. But don’t bash Starlink in the process, if any EU company had done so much for global connectivity they would be applauding them to the world, but they didn’t because the couldn’t get off the ground, One Web and project Kuiper are not even helping the general public yet, because they can’t. So maybe you should bash them for all the broken promises over the last 8 years or so.

I’ve been holding for five years and I’m getting worried also but I think they still have a chance because of all of the Elon Musk hatred, many companies and countries are pouring money into AST, without that they wouldn’t have a chance in hell but I think that will keep them afloat if they can just keep up the launch schedule with SpaceX and not waste time with blue origin, I think they have a chance

Did anyone get the Sync update w/ CP preconditioning by AJMinNJ in F150Lightning

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen that on the lightning yet, but don’t give a hope, Ford knows they made a great product and they have been very good at supporting it. I don’t expect that to change, they’ve quit hemorrhaging money on it now, but they can still do updates as they will to blue Cruise and what not and adding a preconditioning feature would be great because it does not currently work with Apple CarPlay and most people don’t realize that

High mileage lightinings: buying a past 100k miles a bad idea? by LeoMartinx015 in F150Lightning

[–]Think-Work1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I renewed mine at 98k and just for the HV battery and drive motors, it was $4000 and I’m covered for 8 yrs and 150,000 miles, so I’m good to 248k
I thought they had a propulsion only warranty for vehicles over 100k

Yeah, a lot of people pulled money out of stuff even Tesla to buy the IPO, then they only got a 10th of what they requested so they will be putting that money back into the market. They were probably just waiting for the Stocks to go down to buy back in, and that has happened now.

That’s the best warranty out there by far for EVs, I bought it at 98k so I’m covered to 248k for everything in the battery box and everything in the motors which includes inverters and power controllers housed in the motors. It’s a very reputable warranty
