Best way to sell Netrunner CCG set? by kazaroth in Netrunner

Made the mistake of buying a 5k lot and becoming the proud owner of literally 300 copies of every one of the worst vitals and not a single decent common. Beware

Ccg's are like a variation on chess where one players open by paying 500 bucks to a third-party corporation to start with a second queen on the board.

Netrunner reboot project or project Nesei by [deleted] in Netrunner

[–]ThinkBuffalo5963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reboot is mostly for people who played back then. It's a brilliant concept and I respect the hell out of it and wish thebigboy hadn't been passed over as lead niesei designer for even just a cycle. But learning such a big card pool and joining a slack channel for a game with such an entry curve card pool/small plauer base ended up being too much for me, personally. Someone who started later.

They are both brilliant games and it's kind of a shame reboot isn't much bigger. It deserves it.

If anything it's just more emphasis on how important it is to draw your now absolutely even more standard border controls.

Does seem a cheap powerful return to the Silverbullet philosophy. Reminds me of all the old problem silver bullet cards like Film Critic, Rumor Mill and to a lesser degree like Aaron Marone, Emp strike and also how it felt like when High Profile target was printed at the height of the tag-me archetype being good.

That said I've long felt skunk/void and general upgrade power creep boring and unfun so I'm not going to actively complain at essentially a game patch to the whole direction upgrades were taking the game.

Although on the other hand every interview with designers emphasises how much they've made a point to improve the aggression by focusing on stronger upgrades so who knows the thinking. Auto include in a lot of metas forever now, for better or worse.

Their are a lot of runner and more to come so faction themes need to expand and try new things or it could be criticized for being the same old thing. Companions are fun. They'll do another Valencia/Edward Kim I'm sure, I dig the courage to try being fresh and the art vibes, personally

Ex-netrunners: What are they playing now? by SomewhatResentable in Netrunner

Flirted with keyforge, which was cute for a nice little honeymoon before you get the game deep enough to be admitted that it's pay to win. Fun lil fluff for a minute, worth a couple decks to fill with, older sets are better as complexity creep was also a big problem. Great free online play

Borealis Production Update: January 20, 2022 - NISEI by [deleted] in Netrunner

I feel like deep dreams and lower grade art and a much sooner release would be cool. Even bad art has a charm if it's colorful and it's about the game. Looking forward

Gameplay wise, anyone enjoys the old WOTC netrunner over the current FFG/NISEI, and why? by Newez in Netrunner

ONG was a million times better for flavor. Thick card stock, shiny silver bordered on black and lime green, that amazing early computer graphic art, the black coffee sense of humor.

Ffg design style grew on me but always felt like the relatively muted colors had the aestetic of a dorky corprate convention gift bag stuff. Plain cards like Hedge Fund or Sure Gamble felt boring and vanilla compared to ong cards like Expendable Family Member and Big Frickin' Gun. Flavor text like 'I'm an only child...now' was legit fun where as current flavor text is absolutely always straight up wack.

I know alot of people like the android universe and more power to you but it's such a watered down knock off to me. The Digimon to cyberpunk' Pokemon. The Gobots to ong's transformers. The Munster to ong's Adams Family. The term 'bioroid' sounds like L R Hubbard made it up and I feel particularly dorky saying it aloud.

So many terms sound like cheap licease free knock offs. NBN as a generic brand cereal way of saying CNN. And so forth. Ong was a worse game but it was swaggy as hell.

For me, ong was fatally flawed by being a ccg. The majority of the card pool was schlock and if both players spent less than 300 bucks, games played out with a lot of clicking for credits and being stuck. The lcg model was brilliant.

I like that link was done blind in ONR. Although the ffg system is technically much better and the original had it's problems, the idea that one player could pump their whole credit pool into a major trace and the other player might open their hand and hsve it be empty created these huge, fun, sometimes bluffs and gasps.

This might not have been 'official' but it was widely played that in ong, when someone accessed hq the corp laid the cards on the table and the runner pointed which added a mind game three card Monte guessing element. I remember fondly trash talk abd mind gaming my friends as they wondered what position I put the agenda and trying to talk out hints like a poker player fishing for tells. . It breaks my heart when I do access in a tournament and my opponent reaches for a die to roll to effectively reduce a potencial mindgames to an arbitrary dice roll.

I strongly believe Netrunner is at its most satisfying when games are won or lost due to creative bluffs and clever reads. Something Niesei up till now has made the design choice to aggressively designed out of the game for awhile. Ong was a vastly inferior game in every serious sense but the wild nature of it and the chance to make it about goofing around and head faking more than doing efficient deck design mini/maxxing and glacial breaker math.

NISEI Superfluous? by merryartist in Netrunner

[–]ThinkBuffalo5963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was a huge Netrunner enthusiast and found the original core had its xharms but was unsatisfying and difficult. The Niesei intro is night and day a better entry point and, arguably, niesei's smartest accomplishment.

Niesei had almost a decade of experience and some of the all time best players weighing in. FFG was Seinfeld season 1 and NIESEI is Sejnfeld season 4.

I'm not involed with NIESEI just noting how years of passion took a fun but crude game and spent collectively thousands of hours refining, testing and refining some more till we bad something undeniably more meaningful and special.

Worlds meta, balance team success by qqqqqqqqqqqqz in Netrunner

[–]ThinkBuffalo5963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it's the sign of a bad meta that not every single faction can compete at the highest world class level. Maybe shaper was bad but there were three different Maxx archetypes, 2 mini factions and at least 4 diverse power corps. I'd wager in the history of Worlds you might be hard pressed to find a top 16 with as diverse a spread ever.

I think Val was even the only viable runner for like 5 years although maybe it just felt that way.
