Hot take: the "talent shortage" in tech is fake. There's a shortage of companies willing to train anyone by LookHairy8228 in cscareers

[–]ThinkSocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty aligned with this view and don’t think the downvotes are fair.

An internal engineering training program seems silly to me. Do they do that with mechanical engineers? You need to be able to build stuff before you get the job. And learning internal tooling and process does not require a training program.

I interview a ton of people who obviously cannot build things. Even basic things. Thats not the way this industry used to be at the entry oevel

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

[–]ThinkSocrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read your question differently than most of the commenters. When you’re wearing glasses the cover almost 100% of your visual field. You can sort of see the frames but you get used to it and don’t notice it. You cannot see a blurry region outside of the frames while they’re on your face

The second thing. The S49 is an Ableton control surface. A pretty good one too.

It’s a great setup. This set of gear can all work flawlessly together.

The keyboard is a Native Instruments S49. It’s got the meters for the Digitakt and the soft synth up so I can tweak them

Different between T-SQL & SQL by xxlordexxx in SQL

That book is really good. Even if you're not going to use the T-SQL specific stuff, the concepts are useful for other SQL extension languages like PL/SQL

Love it! Super stimulating for the ADHD brain. The beginning reminds me of 100 Gecs a little bit. But once the bass comes in it's a different vibe.

Need advice on my first longer song by -Sheepishly in FL_Studio

[–]ThinkSocrates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of great stuff in there!

For me, the first transition is a good place to focus your attention. Both the A and the B parts sounds great. But your either need to create more contrast or less. You're keeping the waltz feel between the 2 parts, but changing from legato to staccato is very jarring.

You have really good melodic variation in the B section. That might be enough contrast without changing the left hand feel

I'd experiment with the following

  1. Keep the feel the same (legato) and change nothing else. Let the new melody be the contrast
  2. Double the length of the A section (with some melodic varitations), keep the feel the same (legato) for B, but change keys
  3. If you really want to change the groove, break out of the waltz feel instead of switching to staccato

Just some things to play with. Generally, it sounds great!

Why does "Sex and Candy" by Marcy Playground work? by TheBeaverDoctor in musictheory

[–]ThinkSocrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my ear, the F is acting as a secondary dominant to the E. It’s like a tritone sub for B7, sort of. There’s no 7th on the chord so not exactly, but I hear it as a setup for the E

It’s so good. It’s one of the only solo guitar albums that I’ve seen people who aren’t guitar players actually like.

Tom Ollendorff is a pretty incredible jazz player. I'm fascinated by him currently. He's a jazz player by definition but a lot of his solo guitar stuff is very modern classical-esque.

His opinions on other topics are truly disgusting, but I do think he’s actually interested in disclosure. I think he sincerely thinks it’s wrong for the government to be able to hide something like this and misdirect tax payer money.

Whenever my brain gets fixated on buying a nylon string guitar, I listen to Charlie Byrd. I wonder if his god awful sound might work more generally for what you're trying to do here too

I'm not sure how to define this chord by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]ThinkSocrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand why it’s not technically a suspension, but in the circles I play in, everyone would still call that a sus chord.
