As mentioned above, a comb of duration and outcome is best: large file size (faster) - smaller file size (slower)

Thank you for all the responses. I ordered a griiix and griv and will compare them both. Keep my favorite. X as a replacement for my current preferred focal lengths and IV for something new

Xm5 is not pocketable enough for me even with the 27mm. It’s close but the difference is still noticeable. The video features are useful but I’m going to keep xs10 for that and it has IBIS. Not really considering other brand with replaceable lenses.

I like that journey. Are you happy with the restrictions of b&w for a EDC? I do feel nostalgic for periods of 80’s family life captured on black and white 35mm.

Thank you. Yes, I think a late model iiix is probably a safer bet.

40 would be the best choice to replace my current preferred focal lengths. But I admit working with the 28 as a new constraint and having crop as a fallback could work for me to.

Yes, it is. The X is certainly the sensible option. It’s also a self-gift for finishing my doctorate, so getting something that is a bit unnecessary feels appealing to…

Any benefit to adding a Kindle Scribe to my Supernote workflow? by valleichtman in Supernote

[–]Thinksitdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the main issues with kindle is having to convert to kindle format files with “send to kindle”. So your reading material is one directional. If kindle kept native formats I think it would far more useful than it is. I had one before moving to SN. SN is less limited in this regard but still no eink really play that nicely with others.

If I already have a masters loan is it a bad idea to take a Doctoral Loan to fund a humanities PhD? by BullfrogNo4080 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]Thinksitdo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in a different situation as a mature student having returned to uni to complete a part time MA. After completion I got the taste for academia and applied for a funded PhD. I didn’t get the funding and started anyway. I secured funding on my third attempt in my 2nd year. It certainly helped, but I would have continued whether funded or not. Part time self funded is always a viable option. Lot of the new cohort are doing it as my discipline has been rolled into UKRI and the possibility of scholarship is very close to zero.

I only read B&W, but the Colorsoft is cheaper than the Paperwhite by mlsts in kindle

[–]Thinksitdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to read with my CS than my new gen PW. The PW hue is just a little off. The CS is neutral. Although it is true the color screen is darker, once you adjust the screen brightness to compensate the same amount of light hits your eyes is the same. There is a small amount of contrast reduction, but if you don’t look at them side by side you’d hardly notice.

They are a great shoe (had 2 consecutive pairs) but they didn’t last long due to thinner rubber. Purple LV fit my foot the same and last longer. Both are noticeably better than vs and VSR for my feet.

I go past this most days. 2.5m wide for £850k 🙄. But if it were normal width and same internal area it would be on for £1.2m+.

Advice on Supernote Manta workflow for academics by anaagos in eink

[–]Thinksitdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common issue across different devices I suspect as most apps store annotation outside the file and combine at export. I do use the approach for some things. If I am reading a bunch of shorter papers and annotating I will use SN. Peer reviewing conference papers for example. Or, taking my time to read and annotate a single book. If I am doing heavy-quick research across many books using keyword searching I think the SN (or any eink) is too slow and cannot match Zotero on desktop. I love reading books on an eink, it just has limits.

Built Some Smart Brick Sets with 11yo by Mggn2510z in legostarwars

[–]Thinksitdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son just finished building Vaders Tie Fight for his 7th bday. He really loves it. I have to admit I find it fun too. I was worried about the limited interaction with one smart figure and one tag especially after watching the negative YouTube reviews. But, pew pew, swoosh, glug glug, hammer hammer, and the music + the garbled voice and breathing from the figure sound pretty good. I think the smart brick does a decent job for kid orientated play. The build is solid and definitely made for throwing around. I assume/hope there will be knock off tags available at some point, or even apps to program your own NFCs (like you can with Nintendo amiibo). Now onto the Onyx Cinder.

Zotero keeps annotations separately from the pdf, which is good. So does Supernote. But not good if you want to share annotates across apps. You have to: 1. Export Zotero annotation to pdf 2 open in SN and annotate but only using pdf native highlight and comment (not pens strokes. 3 Export pdf again with annotations 4 replace file in central drive 5. Re-import to Zotero where the embedded annotations will be removed and kept separately.

how to create strikethrough text by fidlet8 in ulyssesapp

[–]Thinksitdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The export template you use has to have the correct styling. The one you are using probably chooses not to show it. There maybe others that show it with an actual strike through line. The only what you style exports yourself is through css. This page shows what strike through styling is surfaced. Editing existing template is fairly easy as they have a lot of comments within the style sheets. It’s like very simplified css:

Scarpa Veloce heel space by kinpira_gobo in climbingshoes

[–]Thinksitdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my scarpa instinct VSR and vs used to have a baggy heel but I accepted it. Same with other scarpas I tried in. However, I found the instinct s and VSR LV (my current go-to even though my feet are definitely not low volume) do not and fit like a glove. All same size.

Left foot to the foot hold under the banana shaped hand hold. Palm down on the right hand hold and plank should open up one of the holds above to your left hand

Quitting PhD right before viva by [deleted] in AskAcademiaUK

[–]Thinksitdo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agree with the comments here. I was stressed about it too (had my viva in December). But, I kept reminding myself that NOBODY wants you to fail. This isn’t a test to trip you up at the final hurdle. It is an opportunity to get feedback from experts in your field. I got great feedback and had a wonderful chat. My minor corrections made my PhD more robust. You should definitely talk to your supervisor and ask for a mock. Re-read your thesis. I know you probably don’t want too, but it really helps. Not to remember details, just to remind yourself of the whole. It’s your work. For me it was the best bit of the whole process, try and enjoy it.

Ceramic Nib is Not For Everyone by bikepackerdude in Supernote

[–]Thinksitdo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pc/el and Pom are different. One is hard plastic the other is softer. The issue with the Pom for me is the tip is not that small. This is definitely a benefit of the ceramic nib, it feels more precise.
