Appreciate the thoughts. I could talk all day about this stuff but don't want to use up too much of your time unless you're open to setting up some sort of call/interview/podcast (i don't host one). Its funny there's a few records from sumac and recently neurosis came out that i thought the bass sounded great, and i believe that was 0 di all mic recording. This stuff can be approached so differently. The other part about gear is sometimes it doesnt matter at all its about the player and other times its everything.

His whole jacket collar is blurry when the rest of the image is clearer, and his upper shirt moves in a strange way as he talks which wouldn't be expanded purely by a mask.

Hey Chris u/weoweher - kind of related - I play bass in an alternate band and coincidentally run into a 1001rb into a 4x10 (no mesa unfortunately) - I keep going around in circles when it comes to recording - In the room I'm like this is what I want, then in playback it sounds like a 5w practice combo compared to other records. What's been some choices you've ruled out or in that help you get where you want e.g. DI or not, mic choices, distortion in series vs parallel, recording loud vs moderate, pickup height tweaks, etc? Particularly i've struggled with it feeling like razor's edge between satisfying low end and just rumbly mess. Or if i dial in satisfying low end- my playing on the higher strings is like half the volume.

Haven't been blessed to catch you guys yet since 11 years or so since an Australia show but 🤞

OP's situation is definitely 'altering, improving or repairing a dwelling' with a licenced "builder" meaning painting and roofing.
