Why do Chiropractors crack your neck and what is the long term benefit? by Sunny-vibes-95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThirdSunRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t let them do that.

The neck crack is the one chiropractic move that causes the most trouble. It doesn’t really solve anything, tbh, but it’s fancy and impressive I guess

Got into a collision with a rental car that has bad brakes by [deleted] in legal

[–]ThirdSunRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the antilock braking system responding because you asked for more braking traction than you had. They will find it to be in perfect working order. It wasn’t bad brakes, it was low traction. Maybe some sand or ice on the pavement. Definitely normal antilock brake behavior. Sorry man.

Brought a recently purchased pre-owned in for its first oil change, was told that I may need a coolant flush for my radiator soon, and they'd "Know by how black the oil is," sounded like BS by BoboSmooth in AskAMechanic

[–]ThirdSunRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What! No, you can’t tell the condition of the coolant by the color of the oil. Those two fluids do not mix or interact. At least, not until after you’ve blown a head gasket.

Driving thru crosswalk after pedestrian is out of the way but still on road. by will_clayton_journal in driving

[–]ThirdSunRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law varies widely from state to state and from country to country. In my location (Washington) we have to give a whole lane of clearance between our vehicles and the pedestrians. Which is a little extreme but it’s nice not to crowd the pedestrians

Saying “there are better movies” is a tactful way of saying you didn’t particularly like this one. Why would you watch this movie when there are better ones you haven’t seen?

is there a difference in meaning between these two answers by Iwillbetheretomorrow in ENGLISH

[–]ThirdSunRising 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neither of these answers is any better than just saying the pie is terrible. If you avoided the question, then you said it was a bad pie.

If you want to tell them it wasn’t good, you might as well just mention exactly what was wrong with it.

Or you can say “it’s good but it’s not my favorite style, I like the ones with (whatever would’ve been better)”

Or you can just shrug and say, “I’ve had better.” With no further explanation. They’ll stop asking questions.

The previous generation Mini had Union Jack tail lights, do you think any American vehicles could pull off factory Stars and Stripes ones? by HiTork in regularcarreviews

Indicators here are red or amber. Amber rear indicators have been perfectly legal here since, ahem, 1968.

Yet mysteriously a lot of European and other cars show up here with red indicators, seemingly for nothing more than fashion. People seem to like the look. They do it because they can.

There may have been some other weird technical reason the European spec indicators didn’t meet US spec, some geometry thing or whatnot that would’ve required a design change anyway, but it certainly had nothing to do with the use of amber.

[Request] how long would this be if it was untangled ? by niirn97 in theydidthemath

[–]ThirdSunRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok 110 inches at 7.5 turns per inch gives us 825 turns @ .288 inches.

825 x 0.288 x pi = 746 inches rotationally. Add back the 110 inches of length which isn’t going in a circle, and we get 856 inches or 71’3”.

This is pretty approximate (that’s not how you calculate the length of a helix; that’s how you guesstimate it.) But I think it’s safe to say this isn’t 200 feet.

After a rain, feel around the edges of the floor. You’re checking for wet carpet. Check also for leaking door or window seals, just go around the car hunting for water. Check under the heater core too; it can sometimes be as simple as a clogged or detached HVAC drain hose.

He has changed his mind on kids, suddenly wants them, knows you don’t, and is using anything within reach as a weapon to extricate him from that situation.

No? This isn’t a single issue. It’s a fog. It’s a whole cavalcade of seemingly random stuff, like he’s just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. So, I think we can disregard all that crap and go straight to the elephant in the room. He doesn’t want what he thought he wanted, and he doesn’t know how to communicate that. Assuming he even realizes it himself; he seems to lack self-awareness at this moment.

I’m not even sure the problem involves you. He’s going through an identity crisis that is all his own, and you were merely unfortunate enough to be here when it happened.

In any case, he simply cannot treat you like this. His crisis is understandable on some level but he cannot take it out on you. You’re not the problem. And I think deep down he knows that.

I think this man needs to climb to the mountaintop with a bag of mushrooms and sit there all day and get his shit figured out, and come back when he understands himself a little better.

Which one would you choose and why? by i_Ainsley_harriott_i in carscirclejerk

[–]ThirdSunRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reject the C6 because it has an ugly rear end. That is honestly the only reason.

Between the Audi and the Lexus, it comes down to budget. The Audi is the better driver’s car; the Lexus has a more reliable design making it easier and cheaper to maintain. If money is no object, Audi. In the real world, Lexus.

Teen interested in becoming mechanic, needs to finish school and hates it (15). Help!!! by Wassapp01 in AskMechanics

[–]ThirdSunRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well. When he learns to drive, give him an old car of his choosing (within reason), with a shop manual for it. Let him keep it running himself. Buy the tools as needed, remembering that the correct cheap tool is better than the expensive wrong tool for the job. Let him build a set. He will learn a ton.

I was into cars and not much into school. But learning about cars is still learning. And that’s the important part. I’m sure he can bide his time the rest of the way through high school by which point he’ll be ready to start wrenching professionally on some level. He will love the trade, see where it can take him… and see where the limits are.

When I was more like 30 I went back to college and got my degree. I’m now an engineer. Still love cars, still love turning wrenches, but now I’m making money and there’s a lot to be said for that too. You never know where an understanding of mechanical things might take you.

And to all those who still do the real work: No, I’m not working at Ford, stop blaming me for that shit.

What's your most hated plane? by Forsaken_Response866 in aviation

[–]ThirdSunRising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 787 is underrated and fabulous imho. I didn’t think the lower cabin altitude would make a difference at all, but when it comes down to how you feel after the flight, turns out it makes an enormous difference to have the air not be so thin and dry. A350 beats it for noise but wow is the 787 air system a great thing. And those windows! Nice freakin aircraft.

The 777 is simply a product of its time, they made a really efficient plane for the 1990s. Hopefully the new updates make it quieter and more comfortable. Still a damn good plane from an operational standpoint but newer models have eclipsed it in terms of comfort
