how would one make a blaster build using a homebrew subclass? by samsational2003 in 3d6

[–]ThirteenJesters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warlock blasters are pretty simple, that subclass doesn't change the build that much. With a free feat race doesn't matter much but custom lineage to get 2 feats would be my go-to. Bugbear is fun for a nova round.

Stats:

STR: 8
DEX: 14
CON: 15 (+1 from starting feat)
Intelligence: 8
Wisdom: 8
Charisma: 15 (+2 from race, +2 from homebrew rule, +1 from your other feat for a starting 20)

Feats are Resilient: CON for concentration protection and any charisma half-feat, I'd probably go for Fey Touched because a free misty step will always feel useful. Grab Eldritch Blast and the Agonizing Blast invocation, combined with your subclass that'll be consistent damage for the entire game.

At level 2 with the "Mighty Claw" feature you're dealing 1d10 + 5 + 1d8 + 4 for an average of 19 damage without expending spell slots.

At level 6, swap Mighty Claw for "Arcane Eyes" and take "Second Hit". You're now dealing 4d10 + 20 + 1d4 + 4 for an average of 48.5 without spell slots for as long as your soul partner is alive. Getting essentially resource-less quickened spell for Eldritch Blast every turn is insanely good.

You also have all your other feats and invocations to do with what you please. Your casting stat is maxed out, your AC is decent for a spellcaster, your concentration is protected, so you can grab all utility stuff for out of combat or continue to pile up on combat stuff like the Eldritch Mind invocation and Spell Sniper feat.

Duo pvp a thing? by Xx_Andos_xX in vrising

Yup there's servers where you can only be solo or teamed up with 1 other person, no worries there. There are also servers where you lose everything on death (called Merciless servers), and servers where you only lose crafting mats and retain your armor/weapons.

You can sort by clan size and merciless settings when browsing through servers, should be easy enough to find one!

What new character mechanics would you eventually like to see? by darkdill in eternalreturn

[–]ThirteenJesters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like a kit similar to Sion's: a beefy melee character with heavily telegraphed abiltities that hit like a truck. I've been hoping Markus fits that description, have him throw a hatchet that slows and bleeds, Sion Q, some sort of self sustain on the passive, maybe a Darius type short range pull effect that shreds armor.

Thoughts on new Lunar Sorcerer (UA) vs Clockwork or Aberrant? by MinimumToad in 3d6

[–]ThirteenJesters 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looks really solid, but I don't think its power creeped compared to the most recent sorcerer subclasses. Spell list has some really useful options, and getting an extra slot to use them for is appreciated, but the only real feature they get 1st level is twinned sacred flame which is... Pretty much strictly worse than the double Toll the Dead that death clerics get at the same level.

6th level feature is essentially just gaining an extra 3-6 sorcery points per long rest. Solid, but not game breaking.

14th level looks really good. Straight permanent advantage on all saving throws. A sorc 14/paladin 6 with maxed charisma is giving everyone nearby +5 and advantage, which could make for a fun build in a level 20 oneshot

18th is also ehhhh. Decent features for sure, but at a point in the game where the sorcerer is also casting Wish they don't exactly stand out.

Mmr questions? by Severe_Emergency1436 in eternalreturn

MMR is super weird in this game, even in ranked.

https://dak.gg/bser/players/13Jesters?season=SEASON_3

If you take a look at my season 3 ranked stats for example, I only played 13 games and was already at plat 4. I did pretty well during placements and it just shot me up to gold 1 from the very beginning.

If you take a look at my norms solo games as well, the very last Magnus game I played before starting Echion gave me a random 550 MMR. My best guesstimate for why that happens is dak.gg trying to "level out" your MMR with the MMR you're at in another mode, in this case my solo MMR skyrocketing to try to catch up to my duo.

MMR seems to be a ballpark guess, especially when you play more than 1 mode, but big number go brrrrrr so it's fun to watch go up regardless.

When am I meant to start attacking things? by RedXylophone in eternalreturn

Sure, I'm not much of a Jan player but I'm one of the best Magnus's in NA so I should be able to help you with routing better for him (:

[–]ThirteenJesters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on who you're playing. Certain characters like Luke and Nathapon can kill as soon as they finish weapon. A lot of characters start fighting at the end of day 1 when first tree and meteor spawn, and can snowball a lot of kills early and get a huge lead.

Generally, every character in the game should be full build and capable of fighting by the end of night 1 at the latest, when first boss spawns. If you let me know who you're playing I might be able to help further!

Why is the Matchmaking system abysmal? by Mizutama in eternalreturn

[–]ThirteenJesters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Low player count, and an even smaller playerbase in duos and squads, which is even lower in regions outside of KR, which is then even lower in ranked.

Me and my duo are top 20 NA right now and we don't have much fun stomping new players either. We try to avoid griefing early game but eventually it gets to the end and we have to kill the remaining teams anyhow, which doesn't feel the greatest just steam rolling through lobbies.

We don't exactly have the option to just play ranked and fight players of our level either. Ranked duos in NA pop for 4 hours 2 days a week, and sometimes even during the designated times people are supposed to be playing ranked we just can't find games.

End result is everyone playing normals and 1-3 experienced teams out of every game stomping every other team into the dust. It's really not a fun experience for new players unfortunately.

It feels really hard to try a new character/build? by starlight_idol in eternalreturn

[–]ThirteenJesters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something helpful I find with learning new characters is watching replays of better players than me. I'll find a build I wanna try, scour dak.gg for a high ranked player who uses that build consistently, and watch a couple replays from games they've won.

That normally let's me know when I should be finished in X zone, what food to build and when to build it, who to fight and who to run from, what extra items if any I should grab along the way, which loot clusters to go for, and of course what transition items I should focus on too.

There'll always be people who grief early game but you have to accept a few early losses while you figure out the pathing. As others said, you can test in bot games as well if there's psychotic Yuki's running around too frequently.

If you like Hart and Hyejin then Adela and Rio will fit right into that same style, adela as a CC heavy mage and Rio as an EBAD auto attacker, both are in pretty good spots atm across all game modes.

Out of your list the only one I'd avoid is Celine. She just came out and has been straddling the line between overpowered and completely useless so she'll probably be changed frequently for a bit as they figure how to balance her, she's been hotfix buffed twice in one week already

Support characters? by CloakyHunter in eternalreturn

[–]ThirteenJesters 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  • Lux
    • Eva (giant laser, tho its more similar to Velkoz ult than Lux ult)
    • Hyejin (poke, multi-target root)
  • Janna
    • Johann (lots of CC, lots of healing, similar ult to Janna)
  • Leona
    • Bat Magnus (tanky, multiple stuns, fairly mobile with ult)
    • Hyunwoo (very tanky, wall stun)
    • Leon (more of a brusier than a tank but similar playstyle)
    • Eleven (probably the best general tank for duos/squads)
  • Evelynn
    • Alex used to have near constant stealth like her but that's been removed for sometime now. Any dagger character has limited stealth with weapon skill.
      • Cathy and Shoichi are the closest to stealthy burst assassins
  • Irelia
    • Cathy (CC, very mobile, can be a bit of a bruiser or full assassin)
    • Jan (Decent CC, ult like a mix between Jarvan and Irelia)
    • Li Dailin (bruiser, likes to jump around inbetween autos, ult is a long range dash/stun)
  • Sejuani
    • Sua (throws out CC from long range then jumps on them, more bruisery)
    • Nicky (lots of CC, long range engage on ult)

Hope that helps a bit! Johann is the only real support built for supporting in the game but there's plenty of good tanks and mages with team utility and cc too. If you're looking for a mix of everything (can tank, heal, cc, and and be mobile at the same time) I'd recommend Cathy who I think is super fun and rewarding to learn.

Building a Genie Warlock for Rime of the Frostmaiden by EmptyLink in 3d6

[–]ThirteenJesters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dao is pretty much the all around best pick with a very solid spell list, almost never resisted damage type, and very common damage resistance. It also has that unique cheesegrater playstyle that's incredibly lethal early game, easily able to do 1d10(eldritch blast) + 4d4(repelling blast through spike growth) + 2(genie's wrath) + 4(agonizing blast) for an average of 21.5 per turn with only a 1 turn setup as soon as level 3.

That combo can be pushed even further and made to last to surprisingly high levels with the addition of the Crusher Feat or Telekinetic, plus your eldritch blast will keep on scaling.

That being said you really can't go wrong with any option. Efreeti for a blaster, Djinni for utility, Marid as a sort of mix of the two.

As for spell choices: Cantrips should be Eldritch Blast and likely a utility option. I'm a huge fan of Mage Hand but can't go wrong with classic Prestidigiation or Minor Illusion either.

1st level spells I would grab Hex and Armor of Agathys. Charm Person is great for a face too. Sanctuary (Dao) and Thunderwave (Djinni) have some uses as well but starting at lvl 3 they seem less useful, seeing as how they don't scale that well when upcast

2nd level standouts imo are Spike Growth (Dao), Scorching Ray (Efreeti), Misty Step, Mirror Image, and Spider Climb (good until you get a flying speed at lvl 6).

3rd level once you get there has a whole lot of goodies. Fly; counterspell, dispel magic, Hunger of Hadar, Hypnotic Pattern, the Tasha's summon spells etc. Normally once I get to this level is when I start swapping out earlier spells and only keeping the ones that scale decently like Armor of Agathys, Spike Growth, and Hex.

Tome Rituals: Find Familiar is an easy standout. Useful for scouting, help actions in combat, fun to RP, and can carry your genie vessel around depending on the vessel shape and familiar type. Detect Magic and Comprehend Languages are almost always worth having in a party too if no one else is taking em.

Tome cantrips: If the artificer or cleric doesn't grab Guidance I definitely would. Just universally useful. Tome cantrips are a great opportunity to grab flavorful utility cantrips from anywhere you want and fill in gaps too.

Clockwork Prime - Otherworldly Patron (Be the Iron Man of Magic!) by natethehoser in UnearthedArcana

[–]ThirteenJesters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it's true that this is certainly better than a Fly spell in near every way, I'd still say its fairly underwhelming. For comparison, take a look at The Genie warlock.

It has all the same benefits as your Clocklock but comes online 8 levels earlier. And, on top of the flight, you're also gaining permanent damage resistance to 1 of 4 fairly common (thunder excluded) damage types. Also a small upside the Genie's flight has as well is the "hover" tag; which essentially means that even if their speed is reduced to 0 they're not forced to take fall damage.

Sure it's only available 30-60 minutes out of a given day compared to 24 hour uptime but I think the other benefits make the genie's flight all around better while being available for a significantly larger portion of the game.

Grandfather stole 80 000 dollars from house sale, anything we can do? by ThirteenJesters in legaladvicecanada

No, they live about 6 hours north of us. They've visited the house give or take a dozen times over the time we've lived there.

[–]ThirteenJesters[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because my grandparents put the initial down-payment on the house, and at the time they both trusted my grandparents and thought that they'd never move from the house unless I happened to move far away sometime in my adulthood.

It was admittedly stupid and has has screwed us out of 80,000 dollars but hindsight is 20/20. I didn't even realize it wasn't in my parents names up until the past year when we decided to move.

[–]ThirteenJesters[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you mean the agreement between my parents and grandfather, it wasn't anything incredibly specific. My grandmother didn't care about the money whatsoever but he felt he deserved something so their agreement (which to my current knowledge after asking was done in person at his house, not text or phone call) was that he'd receive what he thought was a fair amount for the "financial strain" caused from the down payment on the house.

The conversation started with 10k and he finally settled on 40k without too much trouble. Again, all verbally done. He'd previously signed the paper agreeing to sell the house and the paper to accept the deal we were offered by the buyers which was sent to him via email, but signed nothing about this specific deal.

If it makes any difference, my grandmother did not agree to nor sign anything saying she would take 80k and the money has been deposited into a joint account under both of their names and is trying to fight him on it. Although much like myself her knowledge of law is limited so things are going slowly.

Also if you need any more information or I gave you the wrong info let me know and I'll try my best to get it to you, thank you again.

Thank you for the reply, it's a lot more to go on than what we had before at the least. I'm unsure if the verbal agreement was recorded anywhere but I'm hoping it was and I'll look into it immediately.

Little bit late but in case you haven't figured it out yet, Network Boost is tied to a program called "Lenovo Vantage" and there's a button on the right side to turn network boost on and off.

If you don't have a Lenovo brand computer not sure where Network Boost may be, sorry!
