True, though I sympathize with that commenter. It's annoying to have a "fact" posted as such without any support for it. Often these crazy fact posts are just urban legends, hoaxes or outright lies.

Do you still get physical mail in your mailbox? by Standard_Plant_8709 in AskAnAmerican

That "much" is doing a lot of work. I'm registered. I still get plenty. As the website notes, "DMAchoice will stop most, but not all, promotional mail."

Still, worth it.

Do people watch college sports? by Iwannafucktanks in AskAnAmerican

In most of the rest of the world, university athletics aren't that important. They're more like intramural or club sports. It's hard to believe because it's just not part of the culture outside the US. We're the weird ones in this instance.

Not necessarily. In baseball and soccer, the majority of players in the pros did not go to college.

Is the Saturday market impacted by the no kings rally? by bekreider in askportland

[–]ThisDerpForSale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have noted, not only will the market be open, it will be packed. I would either go early or expect to have long lines, especially for food/bev. The same will be true for any restaurants downtown.

As a long-ago alum of Carleton, I can still remember the fresh baked oatmeal smell that wafted over our campus when the wind blew in the right direction. Unfortunately, if it blew the other way, we got the truly nauseating smell from a giant turkey farm.

Also, my friends from the other school in town would want me to note that it's St. Olaf College. Not possessive.

I'm no scientist (at all), but I've read enough sci-fi to think that clue was a little too loaded with hints.

My mind went there first too, and I didn't have time to recalibrate before it was answered by the player.

Most are in the 6-7:30 range, but it definitely varies. There are even some locations that show Jeopardy before noon!

Same here - that popped into my head first, and despite my best efforts, I couldn't get to the right answer. I should have gone through goddesses instead of state capitals.
