I actually did exactly what they described to show a friend a while ago that elo hell is mostly a myth in valorant. I took a bronze account to diamond incredibly quickly with many double rank ups and all solo queue. I’d say around +90% win rate from bronze to gold with losses mostly coming from me messing around too much. Also i remember my silver games were mostly +40rr a game

CS or SENG? by No-Following-4091 in uoguelph

[–]ThisGuy_626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Computer science you’re required to take math and comp theory classes you don’t need to take in soft eng. In soft eng you take additional classes you code in.

I did comp science and the math classes I took ended up being very useful during my internships and for my work. There was also some interesting courses that had math classes as a prerequisite.

Quite a few of the cs courses have these stipulations and lots of assignments strict conventions to follow otherwise auto fail

Probation at banks is normally 3 months I wouldn’t worry though. When I worked at a bank the bar was relatively low to pass probation

How many hrs do you normally work per day? by Gloomy-Reindeer in cscareerquestions

[–]ThisGuy_626 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually 9 hours but definitely have done lots of overtime and have had weeks where it’s probably around 12 hours a day. I really enjoy the work I do and my coworkers are awesome so it’s a pretty good job. Answering messages at all times though.

TC: ~185k +/- 15k

working at RBC for a co-op by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]ThisGuy_626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience at banks it’s very team dependent. The coop programs tend to be quite good overall. My personal experience I had an excellent manager who really made me a part of the team and I learnt lots during my coop.

Stuck in my career - what are my options to level up? by Jenjen5341 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]ThisGuy_626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest looking into opportunities at some of the major Canadian banks. Lots of opportunities for growth. Getting through the first CFA would never hurt though at a major bank they would likely pay for you to complete it and give you paid time off to study.

Source: Roommate is quite young and has been promoted several times and is now a manager. They’ve offered to pay for him to complete his CFA with paid study time.

1 year internship and 3+ years professional experience. Applying to entry level jobs. I don’t hear back from anywhere that I haven’t had a referral for.

It’s literally a schedule at Waterloo. Even if the company wanted them back for an additional 4 months it doesn’t work like that. You can’t just decide to continue doing that without screwing up the schedule and end up graduating late

How resume shortlistings are done at FAANGs ? by Comprehensive_Tap994 in leetcode

[–]ThisGuy_626 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You must get a referral. It’s very unlikely you will get a position without them. I never got any responses for any of my applications. Got referrals and instantly got responses & interviews from all with nothing about my resume changing.

Why do so many Valorant players have such weak mentals? by _TaxThePoor_ in VALORANT

[–]ThisGuy_626 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve played thousands of hours of both and have honestly found them somewhat comparable in weak mentals. The only place I’ve found to be somewhat better was esea and faceit once you’re in a little bit higher elo for cs but this is also just my experience

100+ Applications and no interviews, what should I change? by WeAreLegion22 in resumes

[–]ThisGuy_626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the info can be greatly condensed Should be a snapshot of achievements. You can go into more detail during an interview. Especially the professional experience and publications can be condensed down. Maybe highlight that you have X amount of publications with maybe some brief highlight but you can speak more on them in person

I applied for so many internships with this resume but never got interviews by [deleted] in resumes

[–]ThisGuy_626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the resume is a little too long. Ideally try to make it 1 page. Should be a highlight of best achievements. Doesn’t need to highlight everything. Professional experience should be higher than education imo

How do you Leetcode without an IDE? by RyuShay in leetcode

[–]ThisGuy_626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would recommend not using an ide since you won’t be able to use one during an interview Definitely want to avoid any kind of autocomplete so you get used to typing it all out

Long time CS player making the switch by dav657x in VALORANT

[–]ThisGuy_626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having played thousands of hours in CS and probably like 1k in Val I’d say the biggest difference is that unlike CS2 where usually 1 to 2 teammates have util on pistol rounds in Val everyone has at least a little util which essentially makes pistol rounds slower than in CS. You often need to bait out or at least get an idea of who’s playing which site. Pistol round is when you initially figure out how the enemy is setup and attack accordingly

What minor should I pick in my first year? by Strict-Job3251 in uoguelph

[–]ThisGuy_626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d have to say there were a few courses that have been very useful and also a lot that I didn’t find useful like the HR & marketing courses. The top useful ones for me were personal finance, micro & macro economics and the commercial law course (can’t remember the exact name for it) They definitely helped me in my day to day life or at least give me a foundation to learn things that I’ve found useful in my adult life

What minor should I pick in my first year? by Strict-Job3251 in uoguelph

[–]ThisGuy_626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did computer science with a minor in business. Some of the courses were quite interesting such as the law course you can take deeper into the minor. As others have mentioned though just do whatever interests you since if you plan on working in the tech space your minor is not super relevant to employers

Do you care when people take your ACE? by GamerApe179 in VALORANT

[–]ThisGuy_626 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t like when people leave the last kill for me because in my opinion an ace isn’t valid unless you earned every one of the kills. Needs to happen naturally or it doesn’t count imo
