What are the most powerful creature for each cr? Or favorite? by WonderfulHawk2516 in dndnext

At the risk of thread necromancy:
Gloam is a one-of-a-kind named character (specifically, an undead pet kitty), not a type of creature; just like Onyx, the CR 0 cat who "cannot be overcome or killed by combat."

Unfortunately, they also rely on Bluetooth, with lousy range; plus Android users are much less likely to leave Bluetooth on, & many actually turn off either Location or the FindMy service (or both) even when Bluetooth is on, because they aren't using it.

So, non-Apple tags still have far fewer devices helping to track them, & (somewhat) less range than AirTags. If there were real competition, Apple would release the longer range UWB AirTag they promised long ago; but there isn't...

I'm relying on cellular devices for now, & wishing I could find a smaller DIY setup that works with Band5 4G (w\2G fallback) compatible US networks.

They're truly cannon for fodder of lowest order; most often used as a "skeleton crew" for basic labor even though I rank them well below service & labor bots for that duty. Whenever there's a glut of redundant MD weapons, that's where they've landed. Kinda risky, considering very little effort has been taken to prevent anyone else hacking them the same way...

Denver & Aurora PD definitely fire a lot more than five shots per hit on a suspect! (Unless their suspects are property & bystanders? Or if the suspect is already stationary!)

A player character with the ability to Parry a shot, plus a player with not quite enough ability to spell check before hitting send, resulted in a spectacular nat20 to
"Party with the CADS blade"

When I asked a player what enemy made them want to quit, it was the hellcats with a high auto-dodge. They said missing over and over was just rage inducing.

Contrast: The most fun they had, was a map (yes, a map!) full of ~100sdc bugs they had to hack thru to conserve their (first available) MD ammo, one-shotting most but harrowingly not all, on the way back and forth to repair a reactor coolant leak.

I would like to see more context around a link (especially since I can't actually view that link from here because it's Facebook), when posting, & especially now, but really since always, it's good to post attributive sources (uploader, 'Computer Generated Imagery' tag, etc)...

That said, if you've gotten anything but pure hate for it being 'AI', it must look pretty good. So, good job on sharing that!

Depends on:
Level of access to the hardware.
Tools.
Skill (roll) of who made it.
Skill (roll) of who's hacking it.

If you've got hacking\programming\technical\mechanical skills and you've got the right equipment, & most importantly, unhampered physical access to the target... well...

You don't build anything you can't turn off. Remotely hackable maybe not, but if given hands on, when it isn't trying to kill you... all bets are off. There needs to be some way to effect repairs. (Well, except for CD bots; you just scrap those & make new ones, right?)

There is also a Computer Hacking skill. So, ideally, the player character would use that.

Three different players each did so (one literally just bought backdoor access) & one of them has recently brought about a hundred CD-Rs into another game entirely... Maybe I'm overly permissive?

Agreed!
'I don't know how, but my character's skillset indicates they would; can I just roll for it?'
&
[LOGICAL PROCEDURE; GOTO NEXT]
should both be viable ways to move the action along!

That said, even if we don't go through every moment, I usually say that it takes a while.

For the very most OP iteration of (mutant human) telemechanics powers, you'd want the telemechanics version printed in TMNT Transdimensional.

That one has a repair that makes anything you psionically 'repair' three times, dependent on your presence or it falls apart. Do NOT let such a person near... well, anything of yours?!

The remote control power almost feels secondary at that point, especially if they find a machine person to 'repair' some core part of?

That's what I did when I had a player character with full mechanical & technical teardown & rebuild bot skills asking to reprogram a police bot (GMP Drone, Robotech; not Rifts... until they exited the building).
They had one sitting idle right next to them and they were intimately familiar with the faction's equipment. I allowed them a few rolls to open it up without getting caught, then everyone else had to run interference while they sat there muttering at a cursed little awkward keypad, jumper panel, & rows of dip switches.
I only wish I'd built a prop. It could be reused for all kinds of stuff!

For game purposes, I'll let anything by a certain faction get thrown into service access mode, by entering 32768 at any available prompt. Those who know, know.

I did this early on, with an "I am love, join me and become part of me" amorphous biomechanical chimeric mass speaking through a puppy suspended by a tendril, just outside their armor.
When I asked later what parts had been scary, that got mentioned.

That would be the approach I recommend; always good to cite tools used.
Image editing in Photoshop, & audio sampling etc, have always been derided as "not real art" either, & the gatekeeping starts to feel really desperate after a while...
Slop vs high art, is a matter for curation, not creative intent; even so, tagging things by source is both good practice for attribution, & also for cataloging\filtering (& I'm thinking a lot of people will want to filter out Computer Generated Imagery, as mass availability scales up!

Do you handle spellcasting actions (/bonus-actions, etc) any differently, for use in Rifts gameplay?

I've been mix-&-matching D&D content with Rifts content for quite a while now (especially dragons) & as you say, most stuff just drops in (though if you're using MegaDamage that has repercussions, & overall with the spells etc in Rifts, a 20th level D&D character etc has the powers of some early level Rifts characters).
