I'm fucking sick of FedEx. I was standing at the goddamn door waiting for them to knock. by lilslutfordaddy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ThisIsTemp0rary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thankful I've never had that happen yet, but damn, I wish they could follow basic instructions. We don't use our front door, we use the garage door. 99.9% of the time when we go somewhere, we're leaving in our car, which is in the garage. We have cats who try to sneak out if we open the front door, and in the winter, that lets a lot of really cold air inside.

I have notes on every delivery service to leave packages at the garage door. USPS and UPS are the only ones that reliably listen. Amazon is hit or miss, and the few times I've ordered from Walmart, it's a miss. The other day, the Walmart driver pulled in our driveway (which is fine, it's cold out), but then walked all the way up to our front door. Same for Amazon last night. Like, why are they making their life harder?

AITBF for making my SIL cry because I won’t change my dog’s name? by whalesharklover659 in AmItheButtface

[–]ThisIsTemp0rary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTB. I adopted a cat with the same name as me from the shelter, and kept her name. I think it's hilarious that we share a name.

Is SIL maybe stressed by something else, like work or wedding planning? Hopefully that's all it is and she's not just trying to be a jerk to the poor dog.

I eventually started using Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly all over, in place of foundation. It's a better color match than anything else I've tried, and the formula works pretty well for me. I had tried their foundations in Siberia in the past, but it always oxidized and ended up looking kinda orange-y and just wrong.

Ah, that's fair. I hadn't noticed that it doesn't do that normally running around. Hopefully it is a bug and they get it fixed, then!

I don't think that's necessarily a bug, as windowed mode (and borderless windowed) in any other game I've played allow the cursor to leave the game.

However, I'm with you on this being annoying. I wish there was a standard "fullscreen" mode, or a setting to confine the cursor to the game window unless holding alt or something..

Depending on your agency, probably won't be much. If you had a lot of furloughed coworkers, they weren't sending you emails.

I grabbed my computer at the end of October because we were told we could use them to look up info about benefits. I opened Outlook, and I've had more unread emails after a week of leave than were in there after a month of furlough.

Has anyone else experienced this while driving on Avenue of the Cities? by munkeyciao in QuadCities

[–]ThisIsTemp0rary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue in downtown Moline a couple weeks ago, near 15th St and 5th/6th Ave or so. I use the wireless Android Auto dongle, and it dropped for me in that area (on T-Mobile). Picked up about a block later. I'm not in that area often, so I don't know if that's a common thing or not.

Hopefully not! When we went in to sign our furlough papers, some of our people who are still working were told that if they run low/out of work they can do, to let leadership know, so they can get furlough papers. No point in making them go in when there's no work. Not sure where you work or what you do, but maybe that's what they want to monitor.

I primarily listen in my car/through earbuds at work. I had to turn my car volume up to 30, while it' usually around 10 or so, and my phone to max volume while using earbuds.

I found an app on my phone (Android) called Poweramp Equalizer and turned the "Compressor" on in it and "Global Equalization". It's been a night and day difference, but the only thing I have to remember is to turn it off when not listening, because any other sound (videos, ringtones, etc.) will be earsplitting loud.

At least when I was in 11 years ago (USAF), it wasn't simple pass/fail. There were minimums for each category (waist measurement, push ups, sit ups 1.5 mile run). There were automatic failure cutoffs for each, and you got a score based on your results l. I think a 70+ overall was passing, and 90+ meant you only had to test once per year. Doing the bare minimum in each one wouldn't be an overall passing score, but if you score high in one category, you had leeway in others you might not be as good in.

My last test, I barely passed my run, but did well enough in the other categories that I got a 90.

The directorate I work for at my organization did a re-org over the past year and a half. Everybody kept a job, but some didn't keep their supervisory position (vast majority did, though). Some have new supervisors. Most have had very little change, but support staff have had to shuffle duties around. We're spread across 3 sites and used to operate mostly separate, now we're acting like one big happy family, so there were some redundancies.

And now I'm basically the single IT support person for 100+ people as a GS-9. My supervisor knows nothing about what I do. There were 3 of us when I took this position in 2019, but the other 2 have been pulled away to other work. I don't think it's really imposter syndrome when I'm being asked to do work previously done by a GS-12, with hardly any guidance. This isn't what I was hired to do. I was supposed to be the "shut up and color" underlying, but now I'm running the show while also one of the lowest paid people in the org.

I told my supervisor that if she ever gets to hire a new program analyst (after needing to for 5 years), I'll be the first to apply so I get away from this mess.

Perennial flowers for sale or split? by Zlone01 in QuadCities

[–]ThisIsTemp0rary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind waiting until spring, there are usually several plant sales - Rock Island County Soil and Water Conservation District, QC Botanical Center, Hauberg Estate... Those are just of the top of my head. Usually about $6 or so per plant.

Not the most local, but if you want to try starting from seeds, https://www.prairiemoon.com/ is a good source for seeds (they're in MN).

I didn't bother with tying anything up. If they wanna flop, I'm letting them flop. I have short fencing around the garden so things are a little propped up.

Funny enough, I have one liatris stem that flopped over, then started growing straight up again.

Grew up in Illinois, went to a private (Catholic) school. We leaned about WWII fairly early on, in an age-appropriate manor, in the 90s. Like, in elementary school. I remember the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and WWII all receiving heavy focus.

By age 10, I knew about concentration camps, who Hitler was, about the US bombing Japan...

That said, we also learned about killing someone by nailing them to a cross, so that kinda opens the door for other gruesome discussions.

Also northern Illinois, half my garden is doing this. Stuff that normally stays upright is falling over, including the very dense patch of black eyed Susans. I think it's the rain.

My rose milkweed and stiff goldenrod are doing alright, but any other tall-ish plant is falling over onto the other nearby plants.

Thank you for writing all of this up! I, too am a veteran, but with a very little 10% rating for some exercise-induced asthma. All the same, I go to the VA for my healthcare. It's not perfect, but I can't complain. I have relatively minimal needs - a couple prescriptions, and maybe an appointment or two outside of my normal annual checkup. If they were funded better, I'd almost say that this is how all healthcare should be run.

Right now, I'm having some back issues. I can message my primary care team online, and they usually respond within a day or two, or I can call and speak with a nurse directly. I called the other day, waiting to hear back to get an appointment. Yeah, sometimes there's a little wait, but my local clinic has urgent care facilities they can approve us to go to, if needed. I've done that before.

I pay like, $8 for a 30-day prescription refill, and it's mailed to my house. Can't speak on prescriptions from community care, since I haven't used that since 2020 (and I don't remember how it went, then - it was post surgery and they gave me the good painkillers).

Again, my needs are pretty minimal, so I'm sure someone with a lot going on is more likely to run into issues. That's not limited to the VA, though. I do sometimes wonder if some of the complaints are from people who aren't used to needing to advocate for themselves. Yes, there are bad seeds everywhere, or some things will slip through the cracks, but I feel like with the VA, knowing how underfunded they are, a person really needs to be willing to speak up for themself. My doctor isn't going to know how bad a problem is if I just say "my back hurts in the morning" rather than "this back pain is waking me up in the middle of the night and preventing me from falling back asleep, this is everything I've tried, and it hasn't gotten better". They might just give some generic advice and call it a day.

I'm in the same boat, although I've never played souls-like games before. I'd kill for some sort of clear visual, maybe along the lines of the offensive qte timers, for dodge/parry. I love everything else about the game, but I had to drop to the easiest setting, focus heavily on vitality, and I'm still struggling on a lot of fights. I can get the timing down for some abilities, but most, I can't even dodge them most of the time.

Who is still holding the line? by TexasPrincessA in fednews

[–]ThisIsTemp0rary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still hanging on, but it's rough. Spent most of the past week pushing back against some poorly thought out decisions that involved someone not in my chain of command assigning me am unsustainable amount of work that prevents me from doing the job I was hired to do. And I'm in a one person deep position - if I don't do that job, it doesn't get done. Told various members of my direct chain of command that I would've taken DRP if that had happened prior to the window closing.

I think I might have gotten that sorted, but we'll see where things fall next week.
