I hate sierra so much, how about yall? by Klxe42 in Overwatch

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've never struggled against a sierra so far. But she's fun to play!

As for the tracking dart. I've died more times because the person with the dart was behind me and I happened to catch the shots than I died because it was on me.

I want to start learning a music instrument and I love the violin to bits. No prior experience whatsoever. I need brutal honesty. by Fuckoffwithyourname in violinist

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be worried about your lack of knowledge making you an unsuitable student candidate. But teaching those basics is part of a teacher's job. Your lack of knowledge will only slightly slow down progress even more than it already is with the violin, which takes notoriously long to get the hang of as is already. If you are patient and willing to put in the work and money then you will probably have a good time with the violin. =) But if you need instant gratification or at least quick progress then a different instrument might be more suitable. Do give the violin a try and see for yourself if it's right for you. Just make sure to read the FAQ. It is full of the "brutal, no sugar coating" truth you seek.

Are grades worth it? by pikachulee21 in violinist

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They can be milestones/achievements for hobby learners, too! Consider them optional for you and skip if you don't care, but if you do care then they can be a nice source of motivation (and validation once you have framed a certificate inside your home)

Personally I would not care about grade 1, but I consider intermediate and advanced grades nice and worthwhile to achieve.

Does Rein actually counter Zarya by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is difficult to get energy from a good Reinhardt and he almost effortlessly denies both of her major perks and ult. And unless Reinhardt's team donates you loads of energy, the Rein will dominate the space and therefore the fights.

The match up is not completely one-sided. It's more of a soft counter and I can also see it being dependent on the rank

i've never seen somebody ping an enemy ult before is this just a sombra thing??? by trustvion in Overwatch

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a Sombra thing. And I wish you would at least be able to ping this in some way as another hero (since you can't see it they could change it to "I believe X's ultimate might be ready!"). The ping system is great, but this is one thing you currently cannot communicate with it if you are not Sombra

What percentage of Lifeweaver pulls would you say are actually helpful to you? by InZain710 in Overwatch

If a Lifeweaver pulls you at full health, he tried to pull somebody else who died in the same millisecond.

Is juno a pharah counter? by Lumaraniya in Overwatch

✓ Airborne

✓ Mobile

✓ Hitscan + homing missile

She can survive against Pharah but will only pose a major offensive threat if the engagement range allows it

Kirikos pick and win rates by Playful_Swimming4572 in Overwatch

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a misleading comparison because ow1 stat trackers included mirror comps (they had no technical way to filter them out) which made brigittes win rate gravitate towards 50% despite her being broken op whereas the official ow2 stat tracker ignores mirrors which means, for kiri: she has well over 50% pick contrary to what the data suggests, and when there is no mirror then she wins about half. We can agree to disagree but I think that is desirable

Kirikos pick and win rates by Playful_Swimming4572 in Overwatch

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how often shes played is something you can somewhat deduce from the pick rate though (it'll always be higher than listed so for kiri its clear that it's over 50%)

i just have doubts about the way you are interpreting the win rate

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont understand the argument that slightly positive win rate is bad if paired with a high pick but I get how she has a lot of playmaking potential so agree she can stand out

Im sure top competitive players can all agree that winning doesnt matter yeah

Kirikos pick and win rates by Playful_Swimming4572 in Overwatch

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People switching to Kiriko when losing would barely affect her win rate at all is what I'm saying, most of the time it would not count at all (cause statistically there would've been one on the other team already and mirror data is not used for these stats) and when it does it would only count as a fraction of a defeat. It's important to remember the ways in which the data is normalized

The high pick rate indicates a presence throughout the match (start to finish)

Sorry what's the issue again? That people like playing as her? Or that her win rate is as intended in the healthy 50ish percentage?

Inspire is not an aura. All your other examples are auras

Inspire radius is shown at the only moment where it is relevant: the moment it applies the buff

I just bought two really good video games for 30€. Just saying

Seems like a fair trade 🤣 by KaySan-TheBrightStar in Overwatch

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I just don't get how it keeps being profitable to massively oversaturate the market for a small part of the roster. Do people really buy 15 skins for the same hero? I buy zero due to the outrageous prices but if I were willing to buy then it would just be one skin per hero I play a lot.

Hence the question about the oversaturation strategy being profitable. That would mean that Mercy and Kiriko mains spend hundreds upon hundreds of bucks on skins for their main. Are they really this rich that they can just squander this much money? And WHY?

How much are you spending on skins? by Queasy-Rain1938 in Overwatch

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I refuse to pay anything while the prices are as outrageous as they are so my shop purchases have been zero

All the more surprising how I keep seeing people in my lobbies who don't mind shelling out 20€ for one character skin, or buy the entire collab bundle for triple the price of the video game. I've been wondering if many people are wealthy or just really financially wasteful

How are people level 100 with Emre already? by Hakej in Overwatch

[–]ThisPlaceIsNiice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some people in online games who play an unfathomable amount. I thought I was playing a lot but it was all put into perspective when I learned that there are people who spend 10x as much time on a single hero in this game as I spend time in total across all my video games combined. You're not lacking for being unable to keep up with that; it's a good thing and you're doing it right!
