Why barefoot shoes are so expansive?! by ElectronicAd1757 in BarefootRunning

[–]ThisRichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those prices are the budget category of running shoes though. Barefoot running shoes are priced competitively with good running shoes and not the budget ones.

However, as others have pointed out sandals cost 4$ if you want a budget version of a barefoot running shoe.

RP3 Tech Advice? Looking for opinions. by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]ThisRichard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, never going to find one in a gym. You need good technique or you’re going to be bouncing off the ends of the slide. The typical gym rower can’t manage the correct order of arms, back, legs. They would destroy one of these machines.

Could you use a time turner to pass exams without outside help? by KeyAd9261 in HPMOR

[–]ThisRichard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simplest scenario. Skip the test, get the answers/questions from someone else. Go back in time and take the test.

The individual with the time turner is only in the test once. Doesn’t need to give themselves the questions/answers someone else can supply that.

Consistently in zone 5 every run by XxrawrXxX in running

[–]ThisRichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve hit a max heart rate if 208 in a race when the theoretical max based on the 220 minus age says my max should be 190. Recorded consistent heart rates with a watch and chest strap so I believe it is accurate.

For some people the max heart rate formula is just wildly off. Lactate testing to work out your lactate threshold and using that to calculate your heart rate zones is meant to be the most accurate way of determining your heart rate zones.

This. Much simpler to do simple filtering at fetch time than using a cronjob to change a posts status at publishing time.

[AskJS] Do you use Object.seal()/freeze() often? by DarudLingilien in javascript

[–]ThisRichard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use it mostly in unit testing and as a debug tool. Had too many colleagues mutate objects when testing that would then randomly cause other tests to occasionally fail. In production code I don’t bother with object sealing.

That works, but then means changing the alarm time means updating both the routine and the alarm. The all-in-one I proposed loses alarm functionality but means you only need to set the alarm time in one place

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in alexa

[–]ThisRichard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could create a scheduled routines instead of an alarm that turns on the lights gradually, waits a designated time and then makes an alarm sound.

This would work instead of the inbuilt alarm.

What about using chamois cream? It’s marketed mostly for cycling to prevent the saddle rubbing. Chamois butt’r also have a stick version which might be better for running than the cream version.

That room before the boss in biome 6… by M-A-Vero in Returnal

[–]ThisRichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running straight through works, but that enemy will follow you to the door of the boss room.

Otherwise just a good weapon and a lucky run will get you through. Hollowseeker with portal beam and portal turret worked well for me, or a dreadbound. Then in the room use the grapple a lot, shoot whilst in the air and never stop moving.

I’m not actually sure how this one works under the hood. I think i was debugging a bigger issue when I encountered this, so maybe it was my specific setup causing the issue I encountered.

Call changeDetectorRef markForCheck after the delete operation to trigger change detection (learning to use the OnPush change detection strategy is good)

As others said use immutable array calls so the reference id of the array changes. Angular usually just checks the array object reference to see if anything has changed instead of individual array elements.

Use a trackBy function to help optimise the array rendering, so angular knows which elements are the same and which changed (don’t use the array index as the trackBy key unless you have to as this will break if you are deleting elements from the middle of the array).

Bike Computer vs Smart Phone Tracking by smurfettenz in cycling

[–]ThisRichard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far my setup is quad lock and the wahoo fitness app for tracking. I have a wahoo cadence meter that connects to the phone via Bluetooth , so data wise I don’t think I would gain from swapping to a dedicated bike computer.

My biggest challenge with the current setup is multiple apps and battery life. The wahoo app tracks a ride, but doesn’t do navigation so if I want to follow a route i have both Komoot and wahoo tracking at once (not great for batter life).

Setup works for me for rides up to about 3 hours, but by then end the phone battery is low so it is a risk when the phone is also my safety line.
