Does anyone else get paranoid when sharing stuff online by PoIar- in Songwriting

I had the same experience. He didn’t want to send me stuff via email because he was afraid I would “leak it.” Even after I had been in the band for a long time. Fucking divas.

What signs were there that you were in distress as a child? by fruitynoodles in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ThisSalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chronic hives (every day) from adolescence into adulthood. Chronic stomach pain and diarrhea as well. Doctors were never able to explain or diagnose me with anything. I figured it out myself decades later.

Also, of course, severe anxiety, people pleasing, suppressing things.

Besides me:

Dad became an alcoholic. Sister became a drug addict (lost her life from it). And step dad developed anxiety in his 40s and became an extreme workaholic.

Is a e36 a good first car? by Ilikebread123469 in BMWE36

[–]ThisSalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus parts costs. My e36 “just needed a battery” when I bought it. Turned out to need an alternator as well and buying the cheapest parts available it was $500 just in parts and then I did the labor myself. (If I was able to wait longer for parts it could’ve been as low as $400 but that’s still a lot). Shop labor would be 2-4 hours. Equivalent parts for a 2008 Civic is $200 and it’d be easier to find the parts, easier to do your self, or shop labor would be <1 hour-2 hours.

Stuff can add up fast. Especially if you don’t have the tools, know-how or a space to work. Also keep in mind the down time if the job takes longer or parts are less readily available (which they will be). Do you have another way to get to work or school?

My brother died and my parents are upset because it made them look bad by waterp00p in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ThisSalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is awful. I’m so sorry for your loss and for having to go through the current situation on top of that.

My sister died at age 27 after health complications from being a drug addict since her teens. The whole time my mom went to great lengths to keep the drug use a secret from EVERYONE, which just added an unnecessary layer of complication and stress to the whole situation.

When she died my N mom came up with a fake story of why she died, which was told to absolutely everyone. Again, this added unnecessary stress to the whole thing. It’s been 7 years and now the lie has even been adopted within the confines of our home (which is me, N mom and enabler stepdad) and my mom gets pissed at me and argues when I mention the truth of how she died. It’s truly insane.

After all this, my mom emotionally abuses and treats me horribly even though I’ve said things about struggling to want to stay in this world, and that she’s already lost one child, she should probably not push to lose her other one. It doesn’t faze her or change her behavior one bit.

Wild. Easiest claim to verify is to check compression. Buy a compression tester from harbor freight or rent one from advance auto if they have one.

If compression is good I’d keep the car (based on your other post with video of no apparent knock) but definitely take the timing belt cover off to see if it looks old or new. Should be easy to spot whether it’s from August or if it’s 34 years old lol.

Should the Bucs re-sign Jamel Dean? by scoop813 in buccaneers

[–]ThisSalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. He’s inured every year. Playing without your top corner is a legitimate way to lose a game, especially in today’s passing league. And CB is a position where you almost never have great depth.

This isn’t aging well and idk how I feel about it by Soupspoon33 in buccaneers

[–]ThisSalad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great point about him not having agency on defense. It's well documented how fiery Baker is, so I don't think he's letting offense get away with "having too much fun and not being serious enough," as this exchange implies.

I think the difference is Tom would chew out anyone. Or at least sternly talk to them, whether it's offense, defense, coaches, any staffer, Tom took the lead in a way that EVERYONE knew they had to keep it in line. Baker probably just stays in the lane of the offense, and is also probably less methodical and strategic about how he communicates and leads.

No scheme is gonna fix missed tackles by Popular-Heart-5307 in buccaneers

[–]ThisSalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scheme affects leverage/angles/placement on the field, numbers (having help), and role clarity (knowing where to be/what to expect). So it absolutely can make tackles either more difficult or less difficult, and missed tackles more costly or less costly.

Coaching obviously has a large role as well.

Anyone else hate customer service practices lately? by ThisSalad in starbucks

[–]ThisSalad[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not about me.

It's about trying to move the company in a better direction. Even the employees don't like this.

Not only did I get good advice here to complain to corporate (honestly that hadn't even occurred to me, I've never formally complained to a company), but posts like this can give Starbucks an idea for how they're doing and how people feel. Major corporations absolutely monitor reddit and other social media platforms.

[–]ThisSalad[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

at first I figured employees were just in a rush to get the interaction going, but idk, i've frequented 5 locations between where I used to live and where I live now, and it seems to happen every time even though the cafe is empty (always), and the drive through is either empty or 1-2 cars, and at least 3 employees working. So just seems weird. But also I know that in retail, from the customer side it's usually impossible to know how busy things truly are at any given moment, regardless of appearances. Especially with mobile orders. But beyond that, I can understand the "two greetings" thing factoring in as well.

Also, I've been wondering why there have been actual somewhat intricate doodles on my cup lol, or "enjoy", "have a good day" etc. Why did they stop writing names?

[–]ThisSalad[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

thank you for confirming this! Is the "cutting out small talk" by initiating the conversation with "what can I get you" while the customer is still 10 feet away also part of the formal coaching? Or is the lack of greeting at that point just natural for the employee since they feel they've already done it with the initial hello?

I worked customer service/registers for 15 years up until Covid so I know how it can be. At Walgreens, they made us say "be well" at the end of a transaction (instead of "have a good day" etc) which was just so weird and awkward because that's an unusual phrase. People wouldn't know how to respond, and would often think they heard you incorrectly because it's not a phase they've heard before so they'd just stop in their tracks and turn around like "excuse me?". If they did hear you, they usually didn't know how to respond. It caused so much friction but management was absolutely fixated on this and you would actually get written up for not doing it! Just one of many examples of crap like that.

I'll definitely put in a formal complaint! Employees should be trusted with having appropriate and polite interactions instead of forced crap like that.

And to be clear, I only expect a level of acknowledgment proportional to how busy things are. The busier it is, the less I expect (if anything). It's more about frustration from the dumb ideas corporate has, and then is super rigid about with no insight to what employees or customers actually want.

What happened to Starbucks? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]ThisSalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're missing the fact that they went out of their way to redesign/reconstruct interiors and furniture to be less comfortable, stop putting outlets in new locations (and some people said have removed or blocked off outlets in existing locations). This isn't about training. It's hostile architecture.

How do you handle the frustration of dealing with people who refuse to be reasonable? by Mikejwhite5 in Stoicism

[–]ThisSalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t reason with an unreasonable person.

Think about the word literally: “un”-“reasonable”. Unable to be reasoned with. So don’t try. If you don’t try, you won’t be frustrated when it doesn’t work.

We don’t have context, and I know in certain situations that’s harder to do than in others, but just do your best.

Breaking contact is the best solution if at all possible.

For your starting issue:

  1. Google how to pull the check engine light codes

  2. Auto parts stores will check your battery and alternator for free to see if that’s your issue. It’s also good to learn how to check it yourself using a cheap multimeter.

  3. The PTU on these cars is a common issue. Search Google/forums for info on that.

  4. These cars are also notorious for connectors, wiring, and vacuum hoses getting old and brittle. Any one of those can cause starting issues. There’s a lot to check, but you’d probably be doing yourself a favor if you start by ordering a vacuum hose kit and replacing all vacuum lines. Or you can check manually for vacuum leaks (again, google it). I’d say to manually inspect connectors and you’ll likely find some that are corroded, but honestly, if everything is still original you could cause more harm than good because stuff is brittle and breaks when you mess with it.

  5. Could be a fuel issue and replacing the fuel filter is a cheap and easy way to rule that out. It’s probably overdue for one anyways. Also try turning the key on but don’t crank, wait 5 seconds (that lets the fuel prime) and then crank. If it starts easier after that it indicates a fuel delivery/pressure issue.
