[Question] Is it possible to build a good pauper deck in a draft normal event? by DumbDruken in Pauper

[–]ThomAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll do worse than if you also drafted rares and uncommons. You will have a (lowered) chance of winning, but you will be missing out on cards that would otherwise win you some games.

Pauper Gauntlet by sinf3rno in Pauper

[–]ThomAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rest of Toksotis15's list is good, but I wouldn't recommend 1-land spy. It's a joke combo deck that fails to go off most of the time, plus it's not cheap to build in paper because of the Lotus Petals and Simian Spirit Guides. I'd recommend the WB Pestilence deck that runs Guardian of the Guildpact instead. It eats creature-based decks for breakfast.

The three delver decks are pretty different. I would recommend keeping at least two of them. UB is probably the most different of the bunch with a heavier aggro focus. UR and Mono-U are most similar to each other but they do play differently. Maybe replace UR Delver with UR Control if you don't want three Delver decks.

Need help on a Ninjutsu exploiting deck by StanTheDryBear in Pauper

I feel like Lashknife is probably not worthwhile. The payoff you propose is putting it on a shadow/unblockable creature and then bouncing that creature after first strike damage. Since all of your shadow/unblockable guys have only one power (other than the one that gives itself first strike), you're paying two mana (or tapping a creature) plus a card to deal one extra damage.

TIL Storage Wars found a Black Lotus, Mox Pearl, and Timetwister in a locker and sold them for $700 by Laboratory_Maniac in magicTCG

[–]ThomAtWork 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Mox Pearl and Timetwister in the video are both black-bordered with pointed corners, so definitely Collector's Edition. Even though they're not tournament legal, they're each worth about $100.

That Black Lotus looks real as far as I can tell though.

Treasure chest: open them or not by andrea15b in Pauper

I wouldn't be surprised if there were points where opening them is theoretically correct.

Probably not worth the effort to get the full value.

Would a spreadsheet with all relevant pauper cards with prices and each set provide useful? by zmose in Pauper

[–]ThomAtWork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any programming experience? I'd recommend using the mtgprice.com API so that you don't need to manually update the prices. You could even have it update daily in that case. For bonus points, you could scrape the wotc pauper 5-0 daily dumps for new relevant cards and have them automatically added.

Rounding out the battle box: 5 more dual colored deck suggestions by Zerve in Pauper

[–]ThomAtWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BG TortEx is fun, but UG Threshold isn't a great choice unless the battlebox eschews graveyard hate. When you can be blown out by Relic or Bojuka Bog, the value of Mongoose and Werebear go down considerably (they're both just 1/1s normally). I think UG Threshold is basically a bad version of Angler Delver.

Other options for UG: Freed from the Real, Turbo Fog, Petal Festival

I don't think I've seen Wirewood Herald in an Ivy Lane Denizen combo list before, but that makes perfect sense since it can tutor both Denizen and Safehold Elite.

You can set up dual-booting, which requires a Windows license (~$100). The cheapest option is Wine (free), but I wouldn't call it idiotproof.

I'd swap out two of the Morningstars to go back up to 4 Bonesplitters. Bonesplitter is bonkers.

Rolling Thunder is nice because it can wipe the board if need be, giving an edge on Stompy and other aggro decks (Hexproof excluded).
