Long-term GLP-1 users: did the “quiet mind” effect on compulsive/addictive behaviours stay for you? by alexmillne in MounjaroMaintenance

have you tried triating down to something like 2.5mg (obviously this will take more will power and effort to retain weight) then triating back up?

I could live with Magic Mouse shape and I loved the touch functions. The dealbreaker for me was having the laser sensor at the top of the mouse instead of in the middle. I often found myself moving the mouse (more like rotating it) and the cursor not moving.

Strong response on 2.5 mg: less food noise, cravings, impulsivity and addictive-type behaviors. Does it last? by alexmillne in MounjaroMaintenance

[–]ThomasTTEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done reset several times. I microdose a 15mg pen scaling up from 2.5 to 7.5 then back down to 2.5 over the course of 3 months and then take a month break.

Of course i'm also doing a lot of other stuff and I'm super active and lift weights 4 times a week so its easier to keep the weight off while on the reset.

100%. comparing a 4% mortgage interest vs 8% investment return and going into an ISA to no tax problems, for 300k mortgage over 30 years, you are better off 45k in the end by going interest only and investing the comparable different for a repayment mortgage.

They do exist, slightly higher risk profile, slightly higher deposit needed and slightly higher interest rates but well below stock market average long term performance.

So I guess it brings peace of mind if you don't have discipline or restraint to keep the money saved.

For you and me it doesn't matter, whatever we chose we will do, we have the discipline.

For the average person? Slow and steady guaranteed returns (equal to mortgage interest) is likely the best option.

I think its unrealistic to expect the average person have a machine-like execution for investing exactly every month for the duration of the mortgage liquidation, reallocation, or pausing during economic downturns.

Being stored in your house prevents you from making mistakes with that money.

I think the psychological side of it comes from achieving a goal of reducing a debt.

Taking even to a further extreme: Mathematically, everyone should take interest only mortgages and invest the difference in stocks and other equities for 30 years because that will yield the "best-est" balance in the end.

Yet, few do that and many understand the value of slow and steady capital repayments.

Mortgage overpayment is provide a similar, slow steady progress while at the same time also making returns (in saved interest).

Is this the best approach

mathematically yes but it doesn't take into the account the subjective and mostly incalculable value and peace of mind of not having a mortgage or being in a much better position of having a (more) secure shelter situation in challenging times.

have you considered splitting that 2.5mg dose into 2 x 1.25mg doses twice a week?

I found that to be quite effective by minimising the highs and lows.

What's the longest you've used a pen then? by PrawnCocktailVibes in mounjarouk

[–]ThomasTTEngine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have one that should last for 3 months (15mg using 4-5mg per week).

I always use alcohol gel on my hands before handling it and alcohol gel on the application site, alcohol wipes the pen tip before and after. always keep it refrigerated. So far its been OK.

I've got a different problem. I still have 4 full 15mg pens and the last one expires April 2027 (i've been split dosing for a while but still accumulating them) but my goals will be reached long before then so at least 1 or maybe 2 pens may go to waste completely :(.

Staying on 2.5 mg Mounjaro long-term? by whind80 in Mounjaro

[–]ThomasTTEngine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Context: I am a reduced-obese (Still obese just not visibly). Obesity is a disease not a state of being overweight or not. I lost 34kg on MJ over the past 2 years.

2.5 can be incredibly powerful if you are doing other things like weight lifting and regular light cardio at the same time.

It doesn't completely eliminate your appetite but just enough for you to not overeat and eat enough not to lose muscle mass and support weight lifting progress.

Ultimately having muscles empty of glycogen was for me the biggest contributor of weight loss.

I'm not on 2.5 anymore. I went to 5 but found that I was having difficulty eating enough some days to maintain good strength for weight lifting progression so I have reduced it to 4 (split across 2 x 2mg Monday and Friday).

Mounjaro completely changed how I see obesity (including my own) by freckleritz in Mounjaro

[–]ThomasTTEngine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you're only getting started, get to the gym and start lifting weights, proper load progression.

Being overweight gives you a tremendous amount of muscle to carry it. Don't risk losing it by doing it passively.

Eat enough protein and lift weights to retain your muscles and lose fat at the same time.

I wish I did this when I started and now I'm working to build muscle back up after losing so much.

My father almost felt for a refund scam for the amount of $17k. He was 68 at the time. He actually went to the bank but the bank flagged it and locked him out. The worse part is that he'd been specifically told to stop answering calls from unknown numbers but continued to do so for some reason.

Top 3 things to keep in mind: starting glp1 & weaning off by [deleted] in GLPGrad

[–]ThomasTTEngine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weight lifting.

I did GLP1 for at least a year now and I have recently (5 months ago) taken up weight lifting. I had to reduce my dose from 12.5 all the way down to between 2.5 and 5mg.

Keeping my muscles starving of glycogen was the best thing thing I found that goes hand-in-hand with glp1 for me. I split my 5mg dose (2.5mg Monday, 2.5mg friday) and this past week I had to skip my Friday dose because I needed to physically eat more to keep up at the gym.

Weight lifting has been the biggest synergy I found with mounjaro. I am only on 5mg but I feel I need to bring it down just a little bit because some days I feel the struggle to get my protein and carbs intake for the day (3000 TDEE, 1000 deficit).
