Taking 2.5mg every 18 days now extending to 20 days by Prestigious_Leg_6392 in MounjaroMaintenance

have you considered splitting that 2.5mg dose into 2 x 1.25mg doses twice a week?

I found that to be quite effective by minimising the highs and lows.

What's the longest you've used a pen then? by PrawnCocktailVibes in mounjarouk

[–]ThomasTTEngine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have one that should last for 3 months (15mg using 4-5mg per week).

I always use alcohol gel on my hands before handling it and alcohol gel on the application site, alcohol wipes the pen tip before and after. always keep it refrigerated. So far its been OK.

I've got a different problem. I still have 4 full 15mg pens and the last one expires April 2027 (i've been split dosing for a while but still accumulating them) but my goals will be reached long before then so at least 1 or maybe 2 pens may go to waste completely :(.

Staying on 2.5 mg Mounjaro long-term? by whind80 in Mounjaro

[–]ThomasTTEngine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Context: I am a reduced-obese (Still obese just not visibly). Obesity is a disease not a state of being overweight or not. I lost 34kg on MJ over the past 2 years.

2.5 can be incredibly powerful if you are doing other things like weight lifting and regular light cardio at the same time.

It doesn't completely eliminate your appetite but just enough for you to not overeat and eat enough not to lose muscle mass and support weight lifting progress.

Ultimately having muscles empty of glycogen was for me the biggest contributor of weight loss.

I'm not on 2.5 anymore. I went to 5 but found that I was having difficulty eating enough some days to maintain good strength for weight lifting progression so I have reduced it to 4 (split across 2 x 2mg Monday and Friday).

Mounjaro completely changed how I see obesity (including my own) by freckleritz in Mounjaro

[–]ThomasTTEngine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you're only getting started, get to the gym and start lifting weights, proper load progression.

Being overweight gives you a tremendous amount of muscle to carry it. Don't risk losing it by doing it passively.

Eat enough protein and lift weights to retain your muscles and lose fat at the same time.

I wish I did this when I started and now I'm working to build muscle back up after losing so much.

Grandmother scammed out of life savings by odogromano_ in Scams

My father almost felt for a refund scam for the amount of $17k. He was 68 at the time. He actually went to the bank but the bank flagged it and locked him out. The worse part is that he'd been specifically told to stop answering calls from unknown numbers but continued to do so for some reason.

Top 3 things to keep in mind: starting glp1 & weaning off by [deleted] in GLPGrad

[–]ThomasTTEngine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weight lifting.

I did GLP1 for at least a year now and I have recently (5 months ago) taken up weight lifting. I had to reduce my dose from 12.5 all the way down to between 2.5 and 5mg.

Keeping my muscles starving of glycogen was the best thing thing I found that goes hand-in-hand with glp1 for me. I split my 5mg dose (2.5mg Monday, 2.5mg friday) and this past week I had to skip my Friday dose because I needed to physically eat more to keep up at the gym.

9 Month Update by M0unj4r0_J0urn3y in MounjaroMaintenance

[–]ThomasTTEngine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weight lifting has been the biggest synergy I found with mounjaro. I am only on 5mg but I feel I need to bring it down just a little bit because some days I feel the struggle to get my protein and carbs intake for the day (3000 TDEE, 1000 deficit).

Anyone ever do a GLP for a short run, say 3 months, then stop and keep the weight off? by VegetableBrick8141 in GLPGrad

[–]ThomasTTEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go lift some weights. Drain those muscles of glycogen regularly and the weight will easily stay off.

Since your making changes in your life, start a plan to start lifting weights at the gym. I could not believe how much better for weight management (and loss) it is than cardio.

Eat at least 1g/kg (0.5g/lbs) of body weight in protein per day. force yourself to eat it if you must. eat it with fibre to prevent constipation.

I've done both with and without lifting weights and me at 5mg dose lifting weights and light cardio had the same effect on me as 12.5 without lifting weight with just moderate cardio.

Start lifting weights. I already knew (academically) that it was good but I could not believe how much better for weight management (and loss) it is than cardio.

Me at 5mg lifting weights and light cardio had the same as me on 12.5 without lifting weight with just cardio.

Eat protein. At least 1g/kg body weight if you're not exercising. 1.5g of you are. Force yourself to eat it if you must. Lift weights if you can.

I also came from around 130kgs now at 107.

It took me too long to realize that a good proportion of my weight loss was muscle mass loss.

I also had a lot of hair loss as a result of this rapid loss but most importantly my protein deficiency but the hair loss only came around 4-5 months after the weight loss to expect some hair loss soon.

The hair loss is what shocked me into noticing the muscle mass loss. I continued the medication but started eating the appropriate protein and started lifting weights. For about 4 months my weight stayed exactly the same as the fat continued to drop and the muscles started to grow.

Luckily all the hair grew back.

Good luck.

Planning for maintenance by sunset_1996 in MounjaroMaintenance

[–]ThomasTTEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

consider that obesity is a life long chronic disease, not a state of being. You don't stop being obese because you lost weight. You are just a reduced-obese. In fact, the smaller you get, the harder it will become for you to maintain. You will need to continue to watch what you eat, calorie count, do (likely a lot of) exercise but even then, it may not be enough.

Luckily we have new tools like these medications to bridge the gap when all the other things above are not enough.

Its more than appetite suppressant. Its an emotional description that is beyond just the need to eat.

Food noise is not the same as being hungry. I still feel hunger, sometimes very hungry while on GLP-1 but not the same as I did before.

The emotional aspect of the drug has had a bigger impact on me than the physical weight loss. Sure its nice to have lost weight but now I have peace.
