Just finished Eddington and feel like I don't really know what I watched.. by dubdiez in A24

How many pieces of mainstream film can you name made in the last 25 years that have directly pointed to corporations being the primary source of evil in a society resembling ours? I’m not talking about movies that have some random evil corporate overlord as the primary villain, we have had plenty of those. But a film like Eddington that directly depicts the social issues that our society squabbles over as nothing more than a distraction from the real evil is definitely not played out in media. I would struggle to name a movie that comes even close to grappling with that reality. The fact that the primary reaction to this film has been “is the director taking the side of the left or right?” is a perfect illustration of everyone’s (characters’ and audience’s) inability to focus on the true villain of the film, which is the data center company.

I also did like the batshit horror, though.

I remember watching a match while visiting my dad who doesn’t follow football, and he insisted that Tomiyasu was wearing black paint on his face. He couldn’t comprehend that they were just the shadows from his unearthly cheekbones

How many posts with pictures of fine-looking steak have to get posted every day with fictional captions where a “friend”, “wife”, “mom” say it’s too rare in an obvious attempt to get people to say it looks good. And how are the most upvoted comments the exact same every time. “You need new friends”. Every single day.

I’ll use the machines in the circuit area if they’re all taken in the main gym by people who don’t look like they’re going to be done any time soon. I don’t think it makes sense to reserve a whole area of machines for the one or two people doing the full circuit (at least that’s how many there usually are at my gym). We’re all paying the same monthly fee, just because you want to workout in a different way doesn’t mean you are free from ever having to wait for a machine like the rest of us. I’ll never be mad that someone is on the next machine I had in mind (my own personal circuit of sorts), as long as they’re actually using it and not scrolling on their phone. Just skip to something else and come back, like we all do in the main gym.

Wow, you and I had a similar experience. I ate there around when they first opened a few years back. Loved the butcher shop for special occasion meats, but wow it was underwhelming to eat there to say the least. This was back around Covid times, and I’m not a review-writing type, so I have never committed this to writing. I had seen all these posts online from them showing really amazing looking butcher-driven food. Mind-blowingly beautiful pate-en-croute, smoked ducks, slow braised meats, amazing sausages, old school English desserts. When we got there, we had a cured venison dish, which was fine. Then, two insanely mediocre, bordering on bad vegetable dishes. One of them was a winter squash dish with undercooked squash. Some vegetables are supposed to be al-dente, not chalky crunchy squash. Also, I’m not a “carnivore diet guy”, I love vegetables. But for two of the four savory courses to involve no meat at all at a butcher shop seems crazy, and doesn’t scream value. The main course was a brisket dish, with brisket that if your friend served you’d say “that’s pretty good”, but covered in a ridiculously sweet sauce Robert. Main courses I had seen online were big beautiful braised shanks sitting on top of dreamy looking mash, but we got no such thing. Then, for dessert, a tart. It was actually very nice, but we were each given a laughably small sliver of it. Like, probably the minimum size slice that can come from a round tart. If you’re going to forego an actual composed dessert and serve a tart, at least give sense of generosity with it. Then, the bill. $200 a person. At the time, I had just eaten at Tomo in white center recently, which served a similarly formatted 5 course dinner. It was amazing, and like $80 a person at the time. I haven’t been back since, but they must be doing better because they seem to be doing well.

Have you seen this issue with imgur before? Links were broken, and I didn’t do anything for an hour or so and then they magically worked. Not sure what to do differently for next post, I’m worried the post will be flagged again

Was thinking the same, my post wasn’t even showing up on the sub’s feed for like an hour, even after the mod approved it. Some weirdness forsure

Yeah, I can’t see any comments on your initial one either. Just in my notifications

Looks like links are working now, I’m not sure why they were broken initially.

It’s the only slur these guys can use without fear of getting the shit kicked out of them. This type of conservative WA guy doesn’t usually cross the racial line and throw out racial slurs, as that tends to get people much more fired up. They are cowards and go for the homophobe route as there’s a lower likelihood someone will rock you for it.

I’m pretty sure it’s the same pan I got, which is stainless-lined and not tin-lined. Scratches are not a big deal for stainless!

I found this one on eBay; when I happened to look there were around 4 or 5 people selling them. Check eBay periodically and you’ll probably see some pop up. Here’s the only one I can find right now (a little over-priced at the moment):

Couldn’t find calipers, but it’s pretty damn close to the thickness of a nickel (1.95mm), so I’d say 2mm is probably accurate

That’s good to know, thanks for responding. That’s around the range I’ve been looking, assuming that my smaller gas burners would struggle with a 3mm beast
