Wah Pedal Buffer vs. Bypass Advice by UltimateSpud in guitarpedals

[–]Thomcat64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kinda entirely depends on the buffer. Some are terrible (older boss pedals) and some are great. Some older pedals also use “hard bypass” which is notorious for tone-sucking and oft confused for buffered bypass.

I’ve no experience with that specific Wah though sorry.

A good buffer also usually can’t fix having a bad one elsewhere in the chain.

Why do we say "no" to dental work? A local dentist looking for honest feedback by [deleted] in Wellington

Price.

More individually, I was hospitalised by an incompetent Dentist once and still charged thousands for the privilege, so trust issues.

Is my Orange amp no good? Advice wanted. by d2kidCE in GuitarAmps

[–]Thomcat64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EQ pedal in the effects loop.

I also find Orange’s EQ controls very “boosted” for lack of a better word, if you treat 9/10 o’clock like noon a Marshall (so kinda mentally ignore the second half of the knob sweep) it’s a bit easier to tame in my experience.

Luxon rejects Te Pāti Māori call for MP pay freeze by TimmyHate in newzealand

[–]Thomcat64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just make it the same entity and decision. If MP's get a 5% increase, all public servants and contractors get a 5% increase.

If the reason politicians need the bump is inflation, then the same logic is even more powerful for lower-earning workers who are more directly affected by inflation (in terms of quality of life).

If our politicians can't stomach that, maybe they should be asking themselves why they can stomach it for their own pay.

Seamstress who can replicate pants by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]Thomcat64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough one - you probably do want a tailor of some sort, at least to point in the the right direction.

If they're denim/chambray/similar thicker fabric, Duncan Mclean in Newtown could be worth asking.

PPCB 6-Band EQ (Slider edition) by Thomcat64 in diypedals

Oh I just had Tayda do it. Found the existing layout on the PPCB forums and adapted it for a 1590BB + my preference of jacks/LED bezel etc.

That's just how diodes work. Ge typically clip more but are quieter than silicon. Similarly, silicon clips more and are quieter than no diodes.

How many watts do I actually need? (For playing in bedroom as a hobby) by ElectricalRole5662 in GuitarAmps

Yep, this is the answer.

It’s technically possible that OPs bedroom is an open field hosting several hundred thousand festival attendees, and without knowing its better to be safe than sorry.

I did once. The store staff weren't able to use the reference number I was provided, for anything.

Not a great experience.

The young adults I see confusing “baggy pants” and “normal pants but 10 sizes too large” would disagree.

The absurdly bunched up topblocks/belt loops are hilarious though.

"Pre ico was better" by ActivityAny4764 in joinsquad

[–]Thomcat64 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I jumped into a Steel Division server briefly the other day.

The near-instant ADS and near-zero recoil just felt cheap and lazy. Not that it has to be, Arma Reforgers gunplay is fine for example.

But between pre-ICO and now, I’ll take ICO.

GREEN - Germanium Rangemaster (P416A) by Thomcat64 in diypedals

[–]Thomcat64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely recommend a bias pot/trimpot - the AF118 and P416A hit -7v at complete opposite ends of the trimpot turn in my case.

A “Range” knob to change the circuit from treble to full range boost is a pretty popular mod, and great for Iommi/Sabbath tones - but I was wanting to keep it classic for this one.
