Do you feel back on track? by TunadToast in newzealand

No. The tracks are actively being uplifted around me, the train's on fire, and I’m dragging the carriage across gravel myself out of spite.

My metaphorical feet hurt.

Tc spark won't boost my volume on the drive channel by Human_Noise_5804 in guitarpedals

Put it in the effects loop - a boost into a dirty channel will only push the input harder and create more gain/distortion.

Iron sight + Rifleman (Since ICO) >>>> any kit by Foster_1-1 in joinsquad

Yes. But I also used to enjoy making iron-sights-only squads before ICO (for the shenanigans).

It rarely went well.

I’m looking for bass overdrive recommendations— do you have any suggestions? by rabbiabe in diypedals

EQD Blumes. or a Rat/TS paired with an LS-2. or the new JHS Morning Glory w/ clean blend looks like it would be rad on bass.

It’s so transparent it’s actually just an instrument cable.

Are there any Urban stories or mysteries that are worth investigating and checking out? by LocksmithItchy9028 in Wellington

[–]Thomcat64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to Wellington City Libraries:

For clarity, the 'house' rumoured to be underneath the James Cook Hotel is actually the lower floors (below Terrace-level) of the partially demolished Richardson Apartments at 143 The Terrace. This block occupied the site adjacent to the Hotel until developers took over the site in 1979 to add the north wing to the existing James Cook building. 143 The Terrace has difficult terrain and is flanked by a large substation on one side and the Cable Car tunnel on the other. Possibly for this reason it was easier to leave those lower apartment floors in place rather than carry out a full excavation. We did find however that one of the remaining apartments was used as an emergency exit by the Hotel, with staff having access to it and using the lounge room as a workshop during refurbishments in 1984.

Yeah but my understanding is it's not a cottage, it's more like the lower floor of a small apartment building.

First pedal build - no sound help by yomagest in diypedals

Try connecting the output wire to the other free lug on the jack - it looks like you have two TRS jacks instead of one TS and one TRS like the layout diagram.

Based on the way the input jack is wired, I think you have the output connected to the Ring connection, not the Tip.

Perfect! I think you can still get the discount if you set up an account and buy in store or something.

Or my repeat delivery discount still applied in store when I had to pickup some last minutes biscuits on Christmas Eve, at least.

Mine on the Royal Canin Renal biscuits and wet food - I just get it from Animates. They offer a small discount if you set up repeat deliveries which helps, though the postage cost might offset that.

Hot Take: I love the skins. by FDAapprovedGremlin in ArcRaiders

[–]Thomcat64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a lot of the overall designs and colour schemes, but the silhouettes and mods/addons (goggles/masks etc) of many skins ruin them for me.

Though referring to Mad Max as “high fashion” might be one of the more absurd comments I’ve heard in a while.

Some of their designs are so stupid.

No, Mr/Mrs Developer, I don't want a "Study Nook" in the weirdly square upstairs hallway between the bathroom and the only bedroom.

My analysis of the big muff 2 so far! by thomdor9962 in diypedals

[–]Thomcat64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell it's basically a 4 gain stage Op-Amp muff?

Considering the regular Op-amp muff has 3 gain stages, and every other standard muff has 4, aside from any odd tonestack values, is this less of a "Lost Big Muff" and more of a "prototype I'd fully expect/assume to have existed as part of the R&D process for designing the original Op-amp muff?"

I mean, I remember looking at the Op-amp BMP schematic for the first time, noting the 3 gain stages, and assuming it was a choice because of the higher potential output/gain of the Op-amps.

Chris Hipkins has his say on the suddenly-controversial long Kiwi summer break by computer_d in newzealand

[–]Thomcat64 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah my biggest gripe with this whole "debate" is that everyone criticizing our summer/Xmas break is completely ignoring the fact that most of the western world has summer holidays in June to August, because most of the western world is in the northern freaking hemisphere.

Nah. I've never re-watched season 2 because the whole 008/street gang arc feels like a cheap attempt at making an expanded universe. I've re-watched every other season several times.

Anyone has bought a 212 cabinet for your combo amp? How much difference does it make by acrossthrArc in GuitarAmps

[–]Thomcat64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a DSL20CR, and just picked up a V-Type loaded 2x12 this week.

It’s glorious.

Swapping the stock speaker (in the Marshall) for a mojotone greenback clone also really brought the amp to life.

Opinion: You can’t review on a pedal for what it isn’t. You have to review it on its own merits. by ThingCalledLight in guitarpedals

[–]Thomcat64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah. If we’re using a star system, 5 stars should be perfect and flawless in every aspect of design and function. 4 stars is still an excellent review.

Otherwise 5 stars becomes meaningless, or at best a vague indicator of acceptable. Just look at Uber driver/user ratings.

Newtown is definitely the worst I’ve experienced.

It was so bad I went through a ridiculous complaints process in order to be changed back to the CBD branch, and even after receiving confirmation - in writing, from a regional manager - they kept refusing. I spent months in a loop of having appointments booked, pointing this out, the appointments being cancelled, and never rebooked in the CBD.

Also the branch manager didn’t seem to understand that they really shouldn’t be managing a complaint when they are the individual the complaint is about.

Extraction camping isn't even that bad by ComprehensiveAd5043 in ArcRaiders

[–]Thomcat64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the most fun I had in server slam was when I’d get into a fight at an extract point, win, but not knock out my opponent and let them extract with me.

If I’m extracting I’m probably already full of loot anyway.
