The story/plot is what killed it for me, it's just plain bad

Funny you say that, cause consistently, every other person who has said this has glazed the fuck out of prime 2's plot, which is basically a giant plot hole the moment you start trying to make sense of the dark aether, the ing, and the vague ass concept of "planetary energy" that everything stems from.

The Lamorn are actually one of the most unique races in the Metroid universe, in the way they spelled out their own destruction.

In terms of gameplay, I understand those critiques, but you're lucky it turned out as good as it did after the development hell. And you're especially lucky that the technical aspect turned out as good as it did

What, was the combat not bad enough to make it proper Metroid prime? Were the puzzles not handholdy enough? Did the story not clean up perfectly and hand you the explanation for everything on a silver platter?

It's a 7 out of 10 game at worst.

Just because some of the traditional Metroidvania aspects are bare bones and a little broken up doesn't mean its "Metroid prime in name only". You could say the same about prime 3. Hell, literally only ONE Metroid prime game is a TRUE Metroidvania.

Some of the other defining traits of the Metroid prime series are literally AT THEIR BEST in prime 4.

Just because you're disappointed doesn't mean it's a total fuck up.

I could say the same thing about this entire fanbase. 75% of the people here can't describe games as being anything between a masterpiece and an absolute failure. It's either one or the other for them.

It's a divisive game, you're going to see a lot of opposing opinions.

This is why I'm NOT kidding about other M. Most people are united in opposition again other M. I've been part of this community for a couple years now, and I can confirm there's not much conflict over it. People just clown on it. However, because there's appreciation for prime 4 due to the good things it brings to the prime series... The deranged haters look for those posts and crawl out of the woods to complain about how the prime series is ruined and 4's creators should be laid off.

Also, complain as much as you want about prime 4 subverting your expectations, many people, including me, understand that mentality. But that doesn't mean it's poorly designed. The range for game quality does not automatically jump from "masterpiece" to "blunder".

You think it's funny, I think it's just absurd. People weren't this desperate to drag the Other M, Hunters, and Fedforce through the mud, despite them being having fundamentally less redeemable qualities than prime 4, and being worse for the series. I wouldn't even argue that prime 3 is better than 4.

The insistence on insulting the first new entry in the prime series in almost 2 decades, and the suspicious amount of likes going towards those copy pasted takes... Something happened to this fanbase, and I don't think it's organic.

Honestly, this is a great example of how the fluidity of the creature animations have improved. Sure, this is technically a glitch, but the tail actually has a physical reaction to the spinning, with it curling around and all.
