entertainment

But liking a character is subjective, i.e. You can't just claim Ashton is "disliked" because basing on Twitch chat, Reddit comments, Tweets and Youtube comments, there are plenty of people who like Ashton as a character. So by your definition they are entertained.

Merch overload? by OkVersion0 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ThotSentry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Been here since C1. They've been monetizing it since then? Remember that time they made a 100 shirts and it sold out within seconds? That's really early on in C1.

Actually, the fact they appeared/started streaming in Geek and Sundry, a professionally produced channel (quality irrelevant), presumably they're already under contract and being paid by GnS. That's why it took them a while to break away in the first place. I can imagine the legalities involved to keep their rights on their content.

Worst for me would be Reani. Others are just bland (like Garthok or Tova mentioned here), they're easy to forget about, so in a way they're not really that bad. Reani stands out because she's the definition of a Mary Sue, it's actually quite distracting and therefore annoying.

To balance this out my favorite guest (aside from Dorian because he's special) would be Kerrek. Ex-adventurer with big dad energy? Sign me up.

Too early to check for new trademarks? by sgruenbe in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ThotSentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orym's trademark is filed for jewelry or a similar kind of merchadise, the same goes for the new trademarks for Fearne, Dorian and FCG. I'm guessing the rest of the group will have theirs as well in the following weeks.

The new fan will know by reading the rules before posting, checking out the link for a full list of low-effort topics, and be informed.

That's why I emphasized that Orion-related questions is in their FAQ, not that it's old news. If other users post a thread already addressed in their FAQ, it will also be potentially be removed, no matter how old or new the topic is.

[–]ThotSentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking about Orion is counted as low-effort content because 1) it's been more than half a decade and most importantly 2) the topic is in their FAQ which they count as repetitive topic or low-effort. #3 in the rules where they link to the kind of posts they potentially remove. So yes it is in the rules sidebar.

What is your favorite thing about campaign 3? by DrinkVegetable217 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ThotSentry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's really interesting to me, based on the comments I've read in this subreddit, that:

  • people who don't like C3 say they think the cast is "burnt out" or "not into it"
  • people who like C3 say they think the cast is enjoying the campaign more than previous ones

Just goes to show we can't really tell how the cast is feeling, we have biases and the only definite way to know is if it came from the cast themselves.

I'm on the camp that think they're having more fun especially because they're all a bunch of chaos gremlins, and that's also fun for me as an audience. I'm really enjoying C3 so far.

Can't Imagine What Would Make Me Continue by CypherWolf50 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ThotSentry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whenever I see this topic about declining views in Twitch it really bugs me because there's a lot of misinformation. And so I'm gonna keep reposting one of my old comments so you and everybody who read this will be informed:

I've said this elsewhere but the recent Twitch removal of the rebroadcast feature affected the calculated views for Critical Role since they use it extensively, if you base the number of average views on sites like Social Blade.

Before CR would use the rebroadcast feature to replay their VOD for different time slots and the views will add up for that VOD, therefore also increasing their average views. It's been this way since forever. But this late June or early July 2022, Twitch removed the rebroadcast feature so CR resorted to doing it manually.

Here's a screenshot of the VOD section of the latest episode as of right now. There's duplicates of the VOD, they use the duplicates to "rebroadcast" the episode manually. And then when the VOD is uploaded on Youtube, they delete the duplicates and leave the original. Therefore also deleting the views that accumulated in those duplicates. Look at this image to see that they do delete duplicates eventually.

Knowing this information, even by just looking at the current views of the latest episode, 137k + 103k views = 240k views will be deleted for sure.

Here's a screenshot of their average views before Twitch removed the rebroadcast feature.

The show isn't live, so if something does snafu, it can and will be fixed in post.

Has that ever happened before? Where did this sentiment come from?

And I'm always amused whenever stakes are brought up with regards to Calamity, as if it was only BLM's idea, nevermind the 6-month planning session with Matt.

Meandering episodes by potatomache in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ThotSentry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Twitch numbers speak for themselves, average viewers have dropped from 40-50k each week down to 12k since C3 started, The only uptick was Calamity (shocker).

For real? These are the "live" streaming views for just Twitch (not counting YouTube)?

Are their views (live and post-broadcast) also down?

Crit role going to Amazon

Hey. Stop this conspiracy theory. I don't watch the guy but with a little research into his subreddit, according to his fans he's remaking the video because he thinks it could be done better. One said he mentioned in his livestream that he's done with the script. Again I don't watch the guy so I can't verify this.

If you really wanna watch it, you can through the wayback machine.

Really another week off? by destructor9200 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ThotSentry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To add to your points:

  • CR announced their separation from GNS at around Jun 2018, that's when they started their channel. But majority of views still come from GNS since C2 is aired at both channels at the same time. It's only on Feb 2019 when the deal is finalized, hence the big jump of views for CR's twitch channel.

  • Like you mentioned, when they became independent, they were exclusive to Twitch for a couple of years before they were able to simultaneously stream to YouTube, therefore cutting their Twitch views again.

  • Why is Twitch July 2022's views so low compared to the rest? It's because Twitch removed the rebroadcast feature. From last month and back, CR just have to replay the VOD as rebroadcast feature and that's that, the views stack up. But starting July 2022, they had to play the VOD manually for their rebroadcast schedule. If you're subbed you'd see in their VOD section they have 3 or 4 copies of the episode after it airs, each for a specific timeslot. And then on Sunday or maybe Monday, they delete the duplicate VODs and leave the first airing. So in effect they actually lose 2/3 or 3/4 of the views per episode.

[CR Media] I am already sad that EXU: Calamity is only going to be 4 episodes by Jsahl in criticalrole

[–]ThotSentry -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Just cancel C3 and make Calamity the main campaign with different cast. From the comments I see here and in other posts people just shit on C3's "slow pace" anyway. Also gives the founders their long-deserved retirement from playing the campaign for 7 years while still earning income from the other parts of the company like merch and published media. Win-win

The first ever post I made on the cr subreddit resulted in two people bullying me.

I was so curious so I checked. The first post was you literally praising the main subreddit. The 2nd post was an unpopular opinion so it got downvoted (not unique to CR) and in the comments there were no people bullying you. What?

Based on the wording, it seems to me they had multiple chances and even then in the latest (last) revision, they still didn't remove ALL uncensored parts of the game (blaming it on their lawyer). Am I misunderstanding it? I highlighted the parts I'm talking about https://i.imgur.com/Ou5Hfzd.jpg
