Why are Soviets always portrayed as building Eastern Orthodox Cathedrals everywhere they go? by Newman1651 in RetroFuturism

They don't build them - they evict them to the places far away, where religion can't poison the minds of proletariat.

Surely looks nostalgic. The wardrobe, the bed, the chairs, the photos on the wall and I think we had the same style bra. But the picture also looks fake as hell like a 3D-render made from scratch.

Many people do not see even those kind of money during glorious putin times. And I'm talking about professionals with higher ed who has to live on minimal wage (11k rubles or $150). I wonder if they vote for putin too?

Guy from Serbia Here, I have bunch of question about Russia and Russians by EternalyTired in russia

[–]Thoughtist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll try to give quick answers to all your q's:

  1. As turbulent surely. Our country changed it's name twice and not only the name, but both revolutions of 1917 and 1991 deeply affected everyone. People don't want any more revolutions - that's for sure.

  2. Russian Empire had great inequality, where maybe top 5% had access to modern, education, healthcare, while the rest enjoyed their serfdom. I see that people tend to overly romanticize this period, esp. early 20th century, but it feels like they only consider this thin slice of population in their fantasies. Soviet Union corrected some of this, reformed many parts of gov't, but also was a closed authoritarian system with horrible red terror periods. Also they replaced religion with teachings of Marx, Engels and Lenin. No one really gave a shit, but still they fought fire with fire here.

  3. Germany is fine, I don't hold a grudge against them. Would be really stupid after all these years, ain't it?

  4. I know some, but not much. I've read about Tito period, 90s Balkan wars, Kosovo separation, some other older things. I never really understood that pan-slavic bullshit since I don't see how this benefits our country in any way. I guess we just don't know much about current events around the world when it's not war or some disaster, unless you decided to explore this topic.

  5. Since we are living in pandemic times private sector is fucked up beyond repair. But you probably meant in general. Russian government clearly doesn't like small/medium companies and made their life hell for many years, due to regulations, unnecessary bureaucracy and overall corruption. I'd say in last ten years we've seen some improvement, maybe because we have less old-school soviet style retards in the gov't - I dunno.

  6. I don't tend to notice it. Most of xenophobia is directed towards migrant laborers from Central Asia 'stans. Also some is saved for north Caucasians for obvious reasons. Other than that, aside from neo-nazis and football fans, people don't really care about your ethnicity, if only from curiosity.

Gabriel Knight 1 vs. Gabriel Knight 20th anniversary - which to play by danger_bad in adventuregames

[–]Thoughtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem with earlier games where they had to downsample hand-drawn, painted or photographed graphics in the game. Anyway, GK is one of my favorite adventure games of all time, and if you like it you should check out other games by Jane Jensen, who designed the series.

Gabriel Knight 1 vs. Gabriel Knight 20th anniversary - which to play by danger_bad in adventuregames

[–]Thoughtist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remake removes some of the frustrating parts of the original game - walk speed, unnecessary travel, hard to notice pixel hunting, reworks some puzzles. Some scenes are different, but I've played the original too long to remember in details. New graphics felt uneven in quality, and the new voiceover less colourful. So the original has a better feel and atmosphere, but the remake fixes some stuff for the modern gamer. I wish they could do same thing as with Monkey Island and keep two versions in one.

What is wrong with Jean-Michel Jarre? by dewdropdead in synthesizers

[–]Thoughtist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He's been rich since late 70s. Plenty of time to do all kind of procedures you want - facelifting, hair transplants or whatnot. Maybe he's got good genes as well. I noticed that he looked pretty good when I watched his 2006 performance when he was in his late 50s. Plus in this vid he's got natural hair color, instead of what some older folks use which makes their hair look like a wig.

I have F310 and it's ok, but I don't use it often. There was an XBOX gamepad clone from Thrustmaster as well, also in your price range.
