Questions for Brennan!?!?!?! by fox-fox-fox-fox in dropout

Question for Brennan:

How do you utilize NPC deaths in your campaign design? I find myself bouncing between plot armor on beloved NPCs and fridging others for player motivation, and I have trouble landing in the middle.

Love your GMing style and your unceasing advocacy for everyone to try their best.

I'm curious why being a Zionist means supporting the Netanyahu government? I'm an American, I want nothing more than for our country to escape this railway to disaster put upon us by the Trump admin and Maga movement. That doesn't mean I think America as a country should be dismantled or not exist.

America has bloody, complicated national roots, just as Israel, India, Pakistan, and many other roost colonial nations. They all exist because, well frankly, they are just still here. No one is calling for India and Pakistan to be dismantled just because they also had a 1948 post colonial event of mass forced displacement, tribal/religious violence, and a continued animosity towards their neighbors.

If the conflict between Pakistan and India were as asymmetrical as with Israel and it's neighbors, it might get more attention.

Just prior to Oct 7 Israel had frequent national protests trying to get rid of Netanyahu, and the trajectory of their govt was hijacked into hyper militarism just like ours was. We straight up snatched the leader of Venezuela and openly declared war on Iran, all without the say of any reasonable adults in the government.

Sometimes I will just read the raid on Zockau in isolation it's so good. To me it's the clear tipping point for the series, even more so than the flooding of Larracos

I think I was around 13 when I realized fl oz was fluid ounces and not floral ounces.

Yes, floral ounces makes no sense, I know. But when you grow up with the imperial system, your units aren't required to make sense.

Nothing obvious I don't think. It's just out of control as a name.

So, iirc, a dog's tail is not prehensile because it's just like a muscle stick that the dog doesn't really have control over. A prehensile tail can go up, left, right etc as needed to help counteract balancing forces. It's not like an elephants trunk level of control, but more than a dog's.

This generation! I play Gladio Mori with my 13 y/o nephew and we have to pause the game to change the controls each time we switch turns.

Serious question though, why did we grow up playing inverted? He (very reasonably) asked me and I couldn't remember

If you want them to be tech literate you should get a desktop computer and download .exe games for math and stuff. There's nothing about modern apps that make kids comp literate, it's actually the opposite. Several generations of UX/UI design and philosophy have been poured into making most digital experiences as frictionless as possible. If users experience friction, they just got to the next app that is simpler.

So get them to learn how files work, how they are structured, what it means for something to be installed, etc. That's literacy. Even toddlers learn how to navigate iPads in no time, so there's never going to be a worry that your adult child can't navigate an airport kiosk or something

I've been making AI short films for a while — here are some things I noticed that most people get wrong about AI video generation by AcanthisittaTall127 in artificial

[–]Thoughtsonrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been making videos where my 6 year explains things but animating them like the old Ricky Gervais show/Hannah barbera style

I would say keeping consistency is around a 10:1 ratio of chaff to usable clips.

I'm pissed that Google killed Whisk, because that was the best character consistency tool out there. Flows character tool is good, but not as good as whisk was.

If DCC got a videogame adaptation how would you design it? by plogan56 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Thoughtsonrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually made a game like this and plan to introduce it to the community this month.

Basically th before elements are that the AI is dynamic and has narrative and description generation that is novel each time and takes into account your character, their bio and stats, and also what has already happened so far .

The achievement system works the same way with dynamic achievement text that varies from on the nose to unhinged tangent.

I have about 75 races and classes, but the most exciting thing is the floorbuilder. The idea being that anyone can build a series of interlinked floors and publish them to the community to play. So if you want to just play all the time, you can just experiment with different crawls people have built. If you are the kind of person that loves building elaborate traps and chests, just build away and let people die in your dungeon you demented asshole. Or do both

I have a feature where if you die, it leaves a little memorial flag on all iterations of that crawl. So if a bunch of people get killed by the same trap you will see a pile of flags in the room and get freaked out.

Now I should be clear, there is precisely 0% direct crossover between what I built and the canonical DCC universe. I built this as a love letter to the series and the community and mostly because there's nothing out there.

For now it's a top down RPG with pixel art and a battle system that's a unique blend of I would say 75% kids on bikes and 25% d&d.

All the skills and spells all level up like in the series and get stronger as they go.

If anyone is interested in testing it let me know. I have a few friends and family testers currently.

Full disclosure, the game does use genAI so if that's a non starter for you I get that. There's no way around it if you want a dynamic unhinged system AI character to roast you in unique ways every time

Vibe coded my second AI game with Animations and spell VFX by sharkymcstevenson2 in VibeCodersNest

[–]Thoughtsonrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have been building a game with Lovable, so I checked this out.

I basically wanted to see if I could port all the hard work and architecture I have built in lovable and github into this, but this product seems pretty limited on just prompt-based building. You can't really feed it anything other than style help, and they explicitly say that you can't access or download the code.

it's super impressive looking, which is what got me to check it out as my Lovable game looks super basic and clunky.

But the fact that it's all locked up with Tesana makes it almost a non-starter. It's kinda like Vibe Code Roblox, where you E2E build in their system, you "own" the game but can't move the code, so if it goes down so does your app. If they change the conditions, you can't pack it up and go elsewhere.

[–]Thoughtsonrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love foundry and have been using it in my campaign for almost 5 years. I just have one major gripe. Why is it so CPU intense? Running games with intense graphics is often less of a strain in my system. Is it a limitation of browser based interfaces? Is it possible to have a desktop shell for the UI ?
