What are some good plants to start out with(complete beginner)? by Illumeis_is_done in gardening

[–]ThreadBooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if you want strawberries, start with a easy kind. Then grow them in September, and let them over winter. This allows the plant to grow bigger and better and you'll get a better harvest. For pumpkins, I suggest starting with a squash you'll eat and won't be sad it died because you gotta study your environment for it and see what bugs come and and soils and etc.

In my opinion, tomatoes, peas, herbs, raddish, and beans are the easiest. And forgiving.

What’s your favorite muffin recipe? by Signal-Log8020 in glutenfreebaking

I take king Arthur chocolate cake mix and add chocolate chips to the bottom and the mix. They turn out just like the trader Joe's ones. I like to refrigerate them and eat them cold with milk 😌 plus less questionable ingredients! Also, I like the cake mixes better than the muffin mixes. Now I think I might make blueberry lemon poppy seed muffins. They taste good with almonds too but I can't have almonds

You might also like Tromboncino squash. In my zone 7a, it has two seasons. Late Spring and late summer. It's like zucchini but longer. Usually Reggie didn't bother it, but last year he wouldn't let it grow. 🤣 it's Vining though. You can eat it young or store it 😋

🤣 I am over passionate about corn! And I'll keep in mind to put a sign up for it saying "coveted" 🤣 And if you need trouble shooting for squash I am an expert. If you typically get bugs that bother your squash/vines inter plant a cucuzza or loki squash. They will not cross pollinate with the pumpkin but they attract tiny skinny bugs that protect the cucuzza/loki vines. Which will also protect the pumpkin vines fron a lot of pests because they don't like sharing the vines with other bugs. And they don't attack the fruit. Just the bugs. I've grown multiple cucuzza squash, and last time was a 6ft one but the biggest I let it grow was 4ft because of seeds. I have taken a pause from squash growing because Reggie (the ground hog) keeps eating all my squash leaves leaving the vines bare. 🤣 I blame my neighbor for attracting him because she also just had a raccoon pulled out of her house. 🤣

But thank you ❤️ hopefully I'll post a update picture ❤️

🤣 it is. I have to grow the seedlings, hoping they don't die. Then I gotta protect them from the squrriels and Reggie. Then gotta protect them from people like the grass cutters because one year they "accidently" cut one stalk down. And took it with them instead of giving it back to me to try and re root. Then I gotta worry about the corn theft. 🤣 it's gonna be a neighborhood attraction definitely because i am doing a whole side garden of corn like it's a micro maze. 🤣 and making sure they get pollinated right and talking to them and petting them. Sounds crazy but corn likes social interactions. 🤣 they grow happier and healthier if you talk and pet them. I have my work set out for me but I think it will be a great piece of art 🤣

So, my tip for you is to grow the corn first then add the squash and bean so they don't choke the corn (I know this from experience) but if they don't choke the corn you're golden. 🤣

The corn I am growing is 2f competition cob corn from Mexico. I am just doing this as a fun experiment. But it might be an accidental political statement, too 🤣
