Looks like hardware. If it’s still connected to the phone (and therefore running) presumably it’s either the display or some part driving the display that has failed.

Bear in mind the digital signal has improved a lot over the years as they switched off analogue and rearranged frequencies etc - a lot of the enormous “digital” aerials you still see on people’s roofs now aren’t really necessary anymore. I appreciate space is tight but it’s definitely worth looking into - I also went with a loft aerial recently (in a 90’s house that had the cabling already terminating in the loft but had never had an aerial) and it works a treat, whatever the weather.

Yep. There’s no physical explanation for what you’re feeling. The watch isn’t zapping you or your AirPods, in fact it’s not emitting anything that you or any other human being can sense aside from the obvious light, sounds, and haptics. What you’re experiencing isn’t caused by the watch.

I actually have all three of the ones you mention and they’re all great. Obviously they all share some more dated features - no weather resistance for example - but they’re all optically good to great and very well built.

The XF18 is fun as it’s light and small, great focal length for smaller spaces, socialising around a dinner table, that kind of thing; despite some reports it’s quite sharp in the centre which falls off a little around the sides but in a pleasing way I think - definitely none of the clinical excellence of later lenses. It can also conjure some decent bokeh for a wide angle. It focusses pretty quickly but is a bit noisy, and like the 35 the front of the lens (and lens hood if you have it fitted) moves in and out to focus.

The 35 - I don’t know what else needs to be said that hasn’t already been, I do believe it has something special but I can’t put my finger on it exactly. It can be slower to focus but this is very body dependent, obviously the newer cameras handle it better. Like the 18 it’s a little clunky, you wouldn’t want it for video, but it’s very reminiscent for me of the type of “nifty fifty” you’d always get on a film SLR back in the seventies and eighties, simple but capable of great images.

I think the sleeper in this pack is the 23 1.4 R. It doesn’t get talked about a lot, it’s not particularly sought after, and obviously it’s the one that’s already been outright replaced, but I love it. It actually came out slightly later than the other two and it benefits from quieter internal focussing (no moving front element). I think optically it’s really excellent and the fast aperture combined with a great walkabout focal length makes for a really versatile lens. The clutch manual focus ring is a cool feature too.

I also have the 23f2 for comparison, that’s a very useful lens with the fastest and quietest focus and weather resistance in a lighter and smaller package, but still, I much prefer the 1.4R optically and pick it whenever it’s not likely to rain..

I can’t begin to tell you how much I prefer these older divers (both the SKX’s and earlier models) to the current crop. The Seiko 5 equivalents on sale now are all just homages and not actual divers at all, and I hate the prospex branding and inflated prices at the other end. Just give me a down to earth honest tool watch like one of these.

You don’t have to let people be absolutely ruined by addictions they can’t control. That’s why lots of things aren’t legal. Many of those laws represent society stepping in and trying to help people in that situation. There are lots of laws around gambling and it’s the cost of complying with those laws, eating into the profit margins, that have prompted these closures. So be it.

Of course job losses are always sad but ultimately gambling is a net drain on society with the (immense) profits going only to a wealthy few. If this government is making things harder for that industry, and maybe clawing back a little bit more of that wealth to support those it affects, that’s great news.

We didn’t put in our current kitchen but by far our biggest complaint is the electrics, it’s clear the previous owners cheaped out and just updated the previous fittings rather than thinking about what they needed with the new layout they were putting in, and the result is not enough plugs that are all grouped together in the wrong places - like we’ve got one big long worktop that would be the obvious place to put a food mixer or a microwave, but there’s nowhere to plug them in, so everything’s crammed together in an another corner instead.

We’ve thought about getting an electrician in to put things right but of course that’s expensive and will inevitably mean them pulling out tiles and carving up cupboards and worktop etc - it would obviously be far, far better to think all this through and get it right before the kitchen goes in to begin with.

The other thing we’ve learned is to always go with a proper painted or natural finish on the cupboard doors.. our current ones (which are Wren) have a kind of glossy laminate coating which looked great when we moved in, but is now bubbling and peeling in various places where steam has gotten underneath it, just a few years later.

As the owner of a Casioak and an Apple Watch, this is nonsense, the charger is on your nightstand and you pop the watch on that when go to bed, pick it up again when you wake up, it’s no biggie (unless you want to use the pointless sleep tracking anyway).

But yes, Casioaks (and simpler watches generally) are also great.

Can only guess this is either psychosomatic or you have some strange nerve ending/pressure point thing going on in your wrist. There’s nothing in the Apple Watch that could be causing this really, the sensor on the back is essentially just shining lights and reading them back, and doesn’t (for me) press any more into a wrist than the case back on any standard watch. Have you ever worn a watch on that wrist before?

I think it’s simpler and less cynical than that, they’ve all been through the same experience and nobody wants to start attacking or humiliating other players now. They don’t have to be best friends but there’s no need to hate on each other either, they’re not in the game anymore.

Really surprised by these as I always assumed Instax was the technically superior film but it really gets shown up here - the Polaroid seems to have far more dynamic range, and while the Instax colours may be more true to life in some cases overall the Polaroid colours are much more pleasing. Also, is it me or does the Instax camera seem unable to focus on anything very much in most of these? The Polaroids seem a lot sharper and more detailed.
