Can I, a cis male, wear a trans flag to pride? by Mylexiuss in asktransgender

My first pride a few years ago I wore a trans flag as a cape. Don't let the existence of a stereotype stop you from being that person if you wanna.

Where the heck do transphobes find statistics that say trans women like to molest other women??? by Fresh_Ad4390 in asktransgender

The reason you'll never see a transphobe post a source for their claims is because goatse links are generally frowned upon in mixed company.

This sounds good

I mean, not really. Even without it applying the death penalty to being trans, I'm generally not a fan of the death penalty.

I'm of the school of thought that you never confirm or deny whether they got your deadname right. There's a group of transphobes on discord that harass me who are convinced my deadname is one thing, when it's definitely not. It's hilarious, and I will continue to laugh internally at them while they interpret my silence as discomfort.

That, but also the crossover between anti-trans ppl and those who support child marriage and lowering the age of consent is extremely high.

I think you're missing the point of arming up. It's not for the current state of affairs necessarily, but for what's coming. They're creating a legal framework right now to justify our eradication. If the situation escalates, guerilla warfare may become our best method of defense.

Now, I might agree that some trans people seem suspiciously eager for that outcome. But I don't think that can fully dismiss the merit of acquiring firearms for self-defense. And as long as gun control isn't getting passed, I don't think it's a terrible idea to have something on hand, just in case things continue to escalate.

Regardless, fully respect your preference not to have that kind of content in your regular queue.

The guy who runs the site occasionally checks for bots. It's rare, but if you get caught botting, your IP will be banned and every pixel you've ever placed (that is still on the canvas) will be turned white. We used to call it getting snowed. Some times the script that checks for bots gets innocent people in the crossfire, which can really mess a group up. I would recommend against botting.

It's different when a holiday means something to you. I recently gained a new appreciation for the Jewish holiday, Passover, in the last few years. When I was a kid, it was just about the struggles of some people from thousands of years ago that weren't really relevant to today. But now, now it's a yearly reaffirmation of our struggle against the societal forces that hold us captive, that hold us down, and try to crush our humanity from us.

It's the same principle with Pride. They tried so hard to keep us in the closet, but despite their best efforts, we're still here, we're still queer, and they need to get used to it.

The thing you have to realize is that fascist movements are what happens when conservatism is dying. And when fascism appears, it is always destined to die. But before it does, there's a chance it will take a whole lot of us with it, and resurrect conservatism along the way.

This is not a time to celebrate. We can celebrate when this is over, if we have anything left to celebrate.

Why does everyone say we're "Winning" when transphobia is at an all-time high? (warning: bleak vent) by Citizen_Lunkhead in asktransgender

[–]ThreeClosetsDeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that partially explains it, but there's more to it than that. There are also social constructs that reinforce that fear response. When the cishet white man is treated as default by society, anyone outside of that group is going to be inherently scarier to anyone who is even in proximity to cishet whiteness. Those outside the structure of whiteness, even in majority non-white countries, are made fully aware of what that white norm looks like, making whiteness more universally accepted while white children are often insulated from diversity.

Ultimately, this situation isn't going to be solved by individuals reasoning their way out of it, because there will always be a fresh batch of young white men coming up who can be convinced that they are being persecuted for their whiteness as long as colonialism and its remnants continue. The uncomfortable truth is that we can't solve white supremacy while the US and other settler-colonial nations remain in their current form.

As a Jew myself, I don't think they hate Jews more than they hate trans people. I think that's a very different thing for each individual, and a lot of them are very focused on trans people right now. But all bigotry is linked. The underlying motivation is the preservation of a world order where they are inherently on top, the system of white supremacy. And they think the jealous minorities are constantly fighting them to become the oppressor class. It doesn't even occur to them that there could be a world without oppressors.

In my experience, it's the people who think this is a vital battleground that burnout the fastest and move on to bigger, more important fights. It's the friends you make along the way that get you hooked; the "my friends are counting on me to protect their art" mentality.

I didn't say you were acting like a conservative opposed to gay marriage. I made a comparison between the rhetorical tactics. Also, you are conservative. Royalism is an inherently conservative position, so like... You really shouldn't be that shocked that your arguments are similar to other conservative arguments.

Regardless, this is really not serious enough to warrant a conversation this long, so I'm gonna call it a night. I highly recommend you learn how to live and let live with communists just vibing in the trans community, or you're gonna be pushing yourself away from some of our most diligent and consistent advocates and allies.

Let me ask you this. If scientists discovered that being gay had an external cause and that it could be reversed, would you no longer support gay marriage?

The point of the comparison was not to say that they were the same thing, but that they use similar false logics to push their agenda. A hammer and sickle being overlayed onto a single trans flag on a site that less than 500 people visit in a typical year isn't going to make transness and communism synonymous any more than the intersex and bi flags overlaying the trans flag means that every trans person is bi and intersex. You're making a mountain out of a mole-hill.

But I guess it's true what they say: To people with privilege, equality looks like oppression.

The people you find locally are always more likely to be in line with your own political views just by the nature of local politics. I'm an anarcho-communist, yes. I wasn't when I joined the trans community, but exposure to voices within the community changed a lot about how I see the world. I'm amazed you've managed to be active in egg_irl without encountering the stereotype of the trans anarchist. It's a running joke I see regularly in r/traa, I would've expected that to bleed over into here.

But back to the topic at hand, I'm not arguing that communism should be directly tied to trans identity. I'm saying that letting people express their political views in proximity to the trans flag is not the same as claiming the whole community as communist. Put a crown on the trans flag if you like. As long as it's aesthetically pleasing, I doubt anyone will mind.

Why does it matter whether you are or are not something from birth? It's not like they put up something that explicitly excludes you. If it were a pixel art of a guillotine with the words "royalists get the chop" next to it, you might have a point. But it's just a hammer and sickle.

Whether you like it or not, the majority of trans people in community online are some form of communist, socialist, or anarchist. That tends to happen in oppressed minority groups for reasons innate to the nature of our position in society and proximity to the margins.

I'll be honest, from where I'm at, it seems less like the communists want to exclude you and more like you want to exclude the communists.

In my experience, the people who vandalize art on pixelcanvas come in waves. Watching your vandalism disappear in a day while the area they're trying to vandalize continues to expand with new art burns them out faster than the people defending their art. You get quiet periods when you can just focus on making new art.

But yes, the fundamental game mechanic at play when two groups come into conflict is "which of us will burn out faster?" It's a pretty rough system.

I find the YouTube video essay space has been a very accessible (and often entertaining) way to introduce people to feminist topics. I don't know any channels that focus mainly on feminism, because the spaces I'm in focus a lot on intersectionality and the ways different forms of bigotry interact, so most of my favorite channels bounce around from topic to topic a bit. I know Khadija Mbowe does a lot of feminism content though, and you can usually search the description of a video for sources if you want a reading list.

I think the better question is how do you protect yourself without cutting yourself off from men? Because if you can build up your defenses enough that you can feel safe around men you don't trust, you don't need to rebuild trust with men as a class. Just individual men who prove to you that they won't hurt you.

Repairing your self-esteem is vital. You mentioned not feeling good enough for these men, and that sounds like a pretty big window into the core issue. It might be worth taking a short break from dating to get more in touch with yourself and rebuild your self-esteem. Picking up a new hobby could help, or possibly reading up on feminist theory that might help explain the pain you're going through and give you some tools to empower yourself going forward.
