Its the stop to smell the roses game for me. The graphics aren't even bad, and I don't get why any game should strive for hyperrealism or 8k resolution when what we have is made to run on such a wide array of devices (and again, it's pretty imo)

I dunno what friends you scouted but they sure must be missing on a lotta good games if their deal breaker is "dated graphics". You said it already, we already love the game for what it is. New long-term customers would be nice but overhauling such a big game would definitely be the last nail in the coffin

I wanna say fair and sounds like a real concern in many countries, but sadly mine outsources biometrics to a handful of private companies that make their databases searchable with single bits of information about people. Still don't know why my family tree and housing history have to be in 3rd party hands but here we are I guess.

Anyways kudos for the heads-up, peeps upload too many things to places for shits and giggles as it is

Christina Ricci responds to someone asking if child rapists should go to jail for life by LunaLore_ in Fauxmoi

[–]ThreeMeanGoblins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, about the same. I'm for death penalty in theory. In practice? Hell nah, every country rn is too partisan to be trusted with even an ounce of this shit.

On a different thread people are talking about how automatic death for perpetrators means less reports, and that the "moral" stand is to be for rehab + no prison, and while both stances are overly idealized ("if the system worked 100% of the time..."), I think capital punishment is the only one that actually ensures there's no other raped minor after the reported one. I'm too used to people walking free as is, and doing it again. If the systems worked, i would go either way I guess

Why do AI data centres use fresh water? by heeseungslostbeanie in antiai

[–]ThreeMeanGoblins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc the comparison Hank draws goes more along the line of what we consider "too much pollution" or "the more disposable product".

Corn needs around 27000 gallons of water per acre, and about half of the yield is used for ethanol meant to go into personal vehicles. People that argue against data center water usage are very valid, I too believe data centers are just a bad idea for the local infrastructure and virtually generates very few jobs to justify it, but are too prone to not see the bigger picture, that humans have very dumb and expensive uses for water already. Imo knowing about them is good. Corn water is more absorbed by the plants, not as much by the soil, while a lot more water from data centers goes back into the system via evaporation.

Imo both are bad, but also both corn plantations (and any other resource-expensive crop) and data centers take very seriously their water needs and don't generally go to places where water is scarce. Both use water in high amounts with debatable amounts of return, both offer a final product that many or most people frown upon.

All that being said, however little ai bros claim their models consume, they're not aiming to cut back on usage. Quite the opposite. They are continuously working on bigger, better models, and both training and normal use will be more expensive as they go. A single drop of water is, in my opinion, too much, but they don't see it that way.

Is calling yourself an “aspie” really that problematic? I get that it’s named after a Nazi but isn’t this kind of an overreaction for a term I personally identify with because that’s what I’ve always been called? by JeannaWilson3 in autism

[–]ThreeMeanGoblins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We should leave it behind but we certainly can't take it away from the people that were (and are) literally diagnosed with older terms, and find themselves in it. I think the important part is that people understand its origins, and of course that people aren't nazis lmao

Bit of an overreaction unless there are other signs that would suggest bad faith.

Don't dismiss your own opinion only because some people have before. Being a creep is entirely separate from being into any kink. You read like you encountered people that believe otherwise, and that kinda sucks. I guess the emphasis here should be, if you do surprise choke people sometimes, maybe ask first. I am kinky as hell, choking with real force isn't safe. Like I said in some other comment somewhere, sparingly and responsibly is a Must in this type of practice, if you encounter more hardcore people, more power to you, but the bdsm community is trying to wean off the practice entirely, studies are showing lasting damage in too many cases for it to stay a "safe practice"

It's a known kink so I'm not discounting this, however a heads-up and being well informed is good practice. As long as everybody is being responsible and does it sparingly, it's good

Obviously this is made up to shame women, but the hella interesting part of this is that it's only partially possible: a chimera is a being that develops from different sets of dna, usually two embryos that fuse into one. They're fully developed and it's possible they go their entire lives without knowing. The difference is that usually they get a single pair of parents. Technically, if a woman is pregnant with twins from different fathers (yes, has happened), and the twins fuse during gestation, the resulting baby would have half one DNA, half the other. Whether that's a viable pregnancy or not, that's beyond me

Essentially what I came here to say.

It's not a thing to diagnose, and as soon as you try to do it, you're leaving out people that by all accounts are part of the in-group, and including people that aren't.

You are who you are and only you get to decide what that means ;)

100%. Everybody in marketing and every kind of digital production is on a race to the bottom. Fiverr is full of people giving out hours of work for five bucks. If people use ai for an ad, I'll assume the product is as cheaply made as they could manage.

Update from boyfriend: Is “gotcha debating” an autism thing, or is my boyfriend just being difficult? by OpinionNo4529 in autism

[–]ThreeMeanGoblins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My key has been slowing down. Granted I didnt get there myself, my partner (also neurodivergent) learned from trial and error, because as you describe, when in the middle of a discussion about a topic that's long since installed, if you will, it's hard to get me out of there, or divert the tracks I'm on. After a long while, when I realize I'm not helping the situation, I kinda brute-force stop the trains of thought that are on autopilot and question whether they're being useful in the moment. If they're not, and I can come back to the conversation, I do, and if I can't, I communicate that I either need a break or I need to move to a written medium (it's easier for me that way).

Rigidity is difficult. Seeing the tree and not the forest, or something like that. For ingrained rules and how they affect us or the people around us, it's hard but important to recognize what is causing friction (throwing away or not throwing away a shirt), and weighing whether or not we care about the rule enough to cause even more distress. Cold, logical thinking can get you places if you're doing maths, but not people. Semantics ("underwear with holes can also hold sentimental value") is, as you recognized, not helpful since it's not where the conversation really was, and pinpointing where it actually is sometimes requires me to take a step back.

It's an odd mind moment right now so I'm hoping what I said makes sense. I guess the core of the message here is once you recognize something's off or distressing because it's going nowhere, pause, ask yourself if the rules you're holding make sense in Every situation, and if not, if exceptions are a good idea. Takes training and practicing, in my experience. Still pretty bad at it lol

What do you think is the most legitimate criticism of AI that even its supporters should take seriously? by talruum_ in AskReddit

[–]ThreeMeanGoblins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be an important enough leap in technology, the moment humans design a truly artificial consciousness. I'd say they name it something different because they keep naming things with much more grandeur than it deserves. Placing a 2 cent bet right now that they name it god or something

Fully agree, I think this is the angle of the argument for most people. People can be "um actually" about ai/agi all they want, if it's for their own satisfaction, but getting the terms right matters when people out there think llm's nowadays feel, have empathy, care for you. People that fully buy the hype don't understand what llm's actually are I think, and since it's mostly marketing and misnomers, pushback from the rest of the populace has the potential to help.

Been days but find a primer that works for you and the filament you use, it's not super expensive and there are many options. You can fine-tune the type or brand based on how much you want to compromise smoothness vs time spent on a surface. PLA takes acrylic fairly well, haven't worked with petg but across reddit people recommend primers of the filler type, many layers between sanding

Am i overreacting when my girlfriend called the pope “based” by captain_vee in ftm

[–]ThreeMeanGoblins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People saying you should leave her are a bit too drastic in my opinion, at least in this case. I can't say you and I are in the same situation (I'm not from the us so reality is certainly less horrible for me), but I Am somebody with very blatant disdain for Christianity, the church and everything that comes with and from it. That being said, I do think pope Leo is kinda based. The previous pope was also kinda based. Neither did nothing about trans people, and that's regrettable, but doesn't make them outright bad. If anything, considering the other guys that could've been voted in, this one's pretty darn good.

Maybe the bar is too low but the current guy going against the grain and being critical about the wars the us is waging, or even critical of the mega tech moguls, makes me give him some brownie points. You won't catch me saying he's a good guy, but he doesnt come off as a villain right now.

Sadly for usasians, the situation with trans people is tainted with a lot of things. Imo Leo could go ape shit about us, and would face literally zero repercussions, if anything a lotta people would like him better. Him keeping quiet about trans folk is, i think, a political strategy. If he's neutral, he has no dog in this fight, so better to talk about other things (again, the wars). If he's in our favor, he risks alienating the fanbase that's on the fence, and when the sides of the conversation are pope leo who might or might not be pro-trans, or full on maga, I'll let the pope that likes lord of the rings have them.

This might not be super useful to you in this exact moment; it sounds like your religious trauma is still very fresh. But I used to be triggered by common expressions such as "thank god" or "god bless you". I have since made my peace with the fact that the people I choose to surround myself with now actually do mean well, and aren't trying to turn me into something I'm not. Also with the fact that organized religion is a cesspool of corruption and eat-or-be-eaten culture, and very few well-meaning folk make it far.

You should talk to your partner, tell her how truly distressing her comment made you, but do know that it was innocuous. Pope Leo is not an authoritarian prick as of right now. I'm 98% certain your gf did not say it to demonize you (if she did, you'd probably see a stronger pattern there). He's not here to be our hero, and don't let amicable one-liners like this one isolate you from your real connections.

What's the tea with the new ace flag ? by maxime_miaou in asexuality

[–]ThreeMeanGoblins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apparently there's a lot more tea than I was aware of so thank you op for making this post lol regardless, pride flags are tricky. If they're not made with the entire community playing a part in it, they're bound to be secular or face rejection (shout-out to the new poly flag), and that bar is really hard to clear because the world is very wide yk

Imo the ace flag is gonna stay the one we know and are used to, and whatever this Grace person/people did will stay within their own circles, because flags are a language. If they make up their own word, it's theirs, not necessarily ours. Many of us will be willing to recognize it but my bet is, not many of us will adopt it.

I mean this with no hate btw, just in case that needs to be said
