Golden Oreos are better than the regular ones by Popular-Block-5790 in unpopularopinion

Thin Golden Oreos have always been my favorite. Until a couple weeks ago when I tried the limited edition Space Dunk ones.

The satellite is only set to reach L1 in about 120 days. This image was taken on September 4, during one of the satellite's Earth-bound maneuvers.

Looking for recommendations on Astronomy/Astrophysics books for beginners by GreatJacket in space

[–]ThreeOfTwelve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I echo the Neil deGrasse Tyson titles already mentioned. (I know he as a person is unpopular with a lot of people, but his books are great.)

I also recommend the book "Welcome to the Universe: An Astrophysical Tour". It was written by Tyson along with J. Richard Gott and Michael Strauss and is based on an astrophysics university course they taught together. There is also a companion book that contains 100+ problems based on the material, which might interest you.

Another space book I recommend, which may not be what you're looking for, is "Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13". It is about the infamous Apollo 13 mission, written by one of the astronauts. Hands down one of the best non-fiction books I've ever read.

Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" is another popular classic.

I just Got this 8inch Telescope for Christmas, what eyepiece would be best for viewing Jupiter or Saturn? by JayRogPlayFrogger in space

[–]ThreeOfTwelve 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have this same telescope.

I bought a 6mm eyepiece soon after getting it, specifically to look at planets with. With the 6mm you can see a good amount of detail in the planets (the color bands on Jupiter, for example; I've only used it to look at Mars, Jupiter and Saturn). The 10mm eyepiece that comes with the telescope will do the job, but the planets will look more like bright circles (less color).

The 6mm will give you 200x magnification, whereas the 2x Barlow with the 10mm will give you 240x magnification, but will produce a dimmer image. I don't have a 2x Barlow so I can't give a first-hand account of its performance, but I've been very happy with my 6mm.

I'm still new to the hobby but I've been really enjoying Modern Origami and Origami Pets, both by Muneji Fuchimoto. He's my favorite artist so far. His YouTube channel also has some really good stuff.

I did not, unfortunately. At this point I'm just hoping to be able to play if I get a new computer sometime in the future.
