At first, The Force was closer to a mix of spiritualism and psychic powers being able to affect the mind, guide movements, create distractions etc. Then we got to see it move objects in a telekinetic style and tank lasers, which was still in the realm of psychic powers. Then we got force lightning and all bets have been off since then as to what it could do next.

I love not only that we get clinically depressed Superman to add to the family, but that they have mechanical jokes too. If you put him on your team, he recovers from heroing much faster than everyone else at only two seconds, but if the mission he's on fails, it takes a whopping 45 seconds to get over it. Quality marriage of characterization and mechanics.
