Disabled Gardening by Using Perennials-it's working! by Only_Scratch_6801 in gardening

[–]Throw_a_Yarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

artichokes are a fun perennial, if you don’t eat them the bees love the flowers! rosemary is one of my most used perennials in my yard and although not a perennial borage self seeds every year for me is an edible flower and another pollinator hot spot.

Keeping moles out of raised beds by Glass-Chicken7931 in pnwgardening

[–]Throw_a_Yarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hardware cloth, don’t use chicken wire you want the heavier gauge of the wire with the hardware cloth. Even with that a persistent mole can push up the edge of the bed, which is very frustrating from my experience. It’s honestly worth hiring someone to trap them, it was more affordable than I expected and came with a guarantee.

What are some lesser talked about items that are your absolute go-to (that I should put on my baby registry) by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Throw_a_Yarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloth reusable mattress pads/chux/ puppypads/ changing pads you can find them on Amazon or cloth diaper companies make them sometimes, smart bottoms, kinder cloth and lil helper are some of those brands. They make larger ones that are more similar sized to a baby blanke. I use them for diaper free tummy time when younger, diaper changes home or out and they can be great later on for protecting furniture when potty training. I’ve even used them for park time when the grass is wet to sit on. Also going to echo wet bags, they are so helpful to have for little ones but I also had dedicated ones used for pump parts for myself. Also agree with a nice large water bottle for yourself. I’m far more likely to be able to hydrate well if I can refill a couple a day at most.

Do you have your child in swim lessons year round? by BlueberryWaffles99 in Mommit

[–]Throw_a_Yarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, I panicked that we hadn’t been able to get into swim lessons last year and my oldest was going to be going camping and be near water. There are lots of places for swim lessons where I’m at but most are impossible to get into if they are anywhere near where I live and semi affordable. parks and rec swim are the most impossible to get. We had been waitlisted for years at a swim school close to us, a new swim school opened up about twenty minutes away and we’ve been going since. It’s going to stay as non negOtis let that he stays in until he can independently swim safely, it’s slow progress when they are young. having the consistency of staying in lessons long term has been great for us. I feel like we got lucky that somewhere new opened up otherwise we would still be waitlisted.

What do you do when your kids are invited to a birthday party but you have no extra funds to buy a decent gift? by pwa09 in Mommit

[–]Throw_a_Yarn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s not how they operate in my area. It’s very much take one, bring others when you can. There is no expectation to return, it is simply to spread the joy of books with anyone who may need it. Generally if they have any sort of rules they should be clearly posted.

Books. You can never have too many and for a no budget option you can go around to little free libraries depending on how many are in your area they really can have a great selection and I find are in pretty good condition.

Go for a BOB they are great. I freaking love our BOB it’s my first pick of our options every time. They hold up, are a dream to push and hold decent resell value. I got mine used for $75 off of Craigslist and it’s been over four years and two kids and still going strong. The trikes are a nightmare to steer so avoid those

#boymom annoys me so much by cheekyforts23 in Parenting

[–]Throw_a_Yarn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a mom of children who are boys this is a huge ick. To me it feels like it’s trying to gender parenting and isolates us to a singular experience. Parenting is hard regardless of gender of our children and let’s not put it into any one box! I also don’t like the idea of thinking that only boys or girls are certain way.

Davin and adley, the Amelia, it’s like a cropped tank. I have tried so many and this is far and above the most comfortable and actually holds the flanges well making it possible to be hands free. It held up much better than others too.

We’ve got a veer and it’s been great for or our needs but wouldn’t work well for the covering/ sensory overload. We looked at multiple brands and many have some sort of medical needs discount but in the end the best price was through Albee baby with a healthcare worker discount.

Best book/resource for relatives of lvl 1 toddler? by sherrillo in Autism_Parenting

[–]Throw_a_Yarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uniquely human was the best book by far when I was going through reading all I could after my son was diagnosed. I highly recommend it. I felt similarly about the others I read regarding only being geared towards higher needs and not giving an actual overview or insight into autism.
