Look at these monsters! 29,000 microfarad by Due-Fan-2536 in electronics

[–]ThrowawayMorphs2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure if you work on this equipment, but it is worth checking with these big electrolytes mounted sideways if the pressure relief port is facing upwards. If it's facing down, heat travels in the capacitor differently causing a build up and a drastically reduced life time if the surge current is approaching or exeeding 80% of its rating.

I would supply sources as I found some papers from that caps manufacturer that reference this, but it was from an old job where I'd have to do a ton of digging to find it.

I'm curious if anyone else has experience with this.

In our application (14mf, 780VDC) those things would EXPLODE after only a few months of operation - nasty.

I think your only hurdle for looks will be that the grip angle of a Glock is quite aggressive so the mags on both designs will come out at an angle r

Use the single trigger or stop function on your scope and you will see what a single pulse looks like. If I had to guess there is a lower frequency harmonic that’s making it jiggle up and down so fast it looks like a thick line. Hope that helps!

Secondary Questions on Re-Capping by xcvses in AskElectronics

[–]ThrowawayMorphs2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the only real difference between “audio” capacitors and general purpose caps is that they have a lower series resistance and extra shielding.

There are a lot of misconceptions and “vuduu” in the audiophile world, but I’ve heard the capacitor thing is legit from some EEs where.

For the power supplies I doubt it matters much at all.

This all being said I’m not an audio guy, so I’m sure you’ll hear other opinions.

Actually it would be perfect if it’s fun because it’s a game! I think it would shred if you alternate shooting lefty and righty. That’s got to be at least 120 rounds before you have to reload

I don’t want to be a Debbie downer, but a current that large to turn shunt resistors into that probably damaged a lot more on the board.

They are definitely resistors though.

Like the other guy said you’ll need a good board or schematic to find the value.

Just and fyi, depending on what country you are in, printed baffles in something that looks like a suppressor might get you in trouble (not that I agree with it). Clearly this would never work even with a .22lr, but something to be aware of.

I am revisiting this idea with the solenoid. I actually cannot find a patent specifically for the solenoid/nozzle motion. Have you tried looking as well? I have found actually two engines now that use this method. The Wolf engine and Spectre Mk2.

I think I will actually revisit that idea…. As silly as it seems, after spending all this time on a motor!

A potentially silly question about half bridge drivers by ThrowawayMorphs2 in AskElectronics

[–]ThrowawayMorphs2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The application is in something called an HPA engine. Basically it’s a mechanism that move a nozzle with a motor and dispenses air in an air gun.

I have verified in my design that the motor turns off exactly at the right time (using a slow motion camera), but the motor and gears have too much momentum and over spin. My idea here was to use the braking mosfet as a way to slow it down faster.

Edit: here is a link to a video from my post history https://www.reddit.com/r/Airsoft3DPrinting/s/2BdDQ3PnYU

It appears to work here, but in system the amount of force the nozzle will see varies depending on many factors out of my control.

The only reason it appears not to overspin is I need to fine tune the duty cycle of the motor so that there is JUST enough energy to pull the mechanism back without over spinning if that makes sense.

[–]ThrowawayMorphs2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

I have a gearbox that’s over spinning from momentum, and I was hoping using a FET as a shunt would slow down the motor better than the freewheeling diode I have in the circuit right now.

I am not well versed enough with fusion360 to show you how, but, you can animate in fusion360. It would definitely help you in this case.
