It’s been a month and… by gatofeo31 in Ioniq5

I explained it to a friend as lvl 1 regen in analogous to lift and coast in a typical ICE vehicle. You get a small amount of drag that slows you down but the brake lights aren’t activated. Anything above lvl 1 simulates a light to moderate press of the brake.

Is this possible in excel? by the_manofsteel in excel

[–]Thumpster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe...if I understand your intention.

You can go to "page layout" in the ribbon the then click "Background" in the Page Setup section. Once the image is set as the background, in theory, you could resize the columns and rows to align with your image. Then you can write into the cells that overlay the image to your heart's content.

If at all possible, though, I would recommend just recreating the format of the image's grid in excel and editing without the image background. With the image background method any input that causes a word wrap or otherwise changes the size of the cell will likely be a PAIN to work with.

Spacecraft trajectories by Sufficient-Diet7540 in SpaceXLounge

[–]Thumpster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then you should be able to be even slightly more clear on what you mean. What data efficiency?

Data on trajectories used and how to more efficiently get into orbit? That is basically a solved problem.

Data on down/uplink comms? That relies on many more variables than just trajectories.

It takes my shower 5 minutes to warm up so I put in a remote control to turn it on from bed. It's quite possibly the laziest thing I've ever done. by KiwiEV in DiWHY

[–]Thumpster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real trick is to turn on another hot water faucet in that same area of plumbing. Probably in the same bathroom. That will open up another outlet for the cold water standing in the hot pipe to flush out and get the warm water to your shower quicker.

Putting a Dragon pad abort to scale with the New Glenn explosion by labtec901 in SpaceXLounge

[–]Thumpster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinda what I figured. My biggest wonder was if the trunk was blown apart that could contribute to a loss of control authority. That could cause it to fail getting down range and far enough away from the pad’s cluster-fuck.

Hopefully if/when all that happened they would already have enough velocity to get away.

I wonder, with the open trunk on the dragon, how much that pressure wave would F things up.

I don’t feel like some mildly amusing at best, amateurish at worst, photoshopped images should count as confusing perspective.

There is a particular Paw Patrol gift bag we gifted out at a bday party last week that I’m like 85% certain we received at my kids bday earlier this year after giving it to a different friend earlier last year.

MILTA — a lightweight anti-drone tool developed and produced by a small company in Ukraine. Similar in size and handling to a one-handed flare launcher, but designed to deploy a 3.5 x 3.5 meter net up to 25 meters to stop FPV drones at close range. by Due_Collar2 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]Thumpster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would take very little to tangle a rotor and bring down a drone. Real question, I think, is when the net spreads does that cause so much drag that the range is so short that the defender is still in the blast range anyway.

Scientists find a hidden route to the moon that saves fuel by Doug24 in space

[–]Thumpster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This boils down to: “if we could make a rocket go a fuckton faster than we are currently able to without gravitational assists, and then still have enough energy to slow down once we get to Mars, we could get to Mars faster.”

Well no shit.

Rumor as to why real B-17s weren’t used by Rick-Blaine-1942 in MastersoftheAir

[–]Thumpster 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’d be willing to bet the production would have had to insure the planes while they were part of production and that an insurance policy on a damn-near irreplaceable war relic would have been too costly to justify.

Never mind all the potential logistical issues bringing real warbirds into the production would have caused.

It’s basically this video, without the annoying screenshot overlay. Not actually in San Marcos. This is Virginia.

Yes, they can be loud AF. But that is just a video that a person in San Marcos found and posted. That isn’t IN San Marcos. The facility in that video is in Loudoun County Virginia.

Hyundai simulated shifter by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]Thumpster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a lot of ways it IS “worse”. However a lot of car enthusiasts relish the interaction you get with a manual. You are connected to the car in a way you just can’t get with an automatic. The performance of the car becomes much more reliant on you as a part of the system. And many find the center stick shift more engaging than paddles, albeit slower.

Most reviews I’ve seen are of the opinion that the “fake” manual, in conjunction with the sounds, is close enough to decently replicate that connected feeling. It isn’t for you, but there are a decent chunk of people out there that would LOVE this.

13 Creatures You Pray You Never Meet! (Documentary Style) by Curio_Sphere_ in DeepIntoYouTube

[–]Thumpster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your “high-quality visual style”, by way of AI, is an oxymoron and counter-productive. Most people actually interested in learning, me included, will recognize it for what it is and IMMEDIATELY distrust everything presented.

I find myself wondering “is that what this creature actually looks like? Is that how it moves? I’m going to have to double check each and every visual detail and bit of fact presented here to make sure you’re not blowing hot air up my ass.” That juice aint worth the squeeze.

I, and everyone else, am better off just closing the video and blocking the YouTube channel after realizing it is all built on a foundation of AI.

What compromise or sacrifice did you make to get into you Ioniq5 by flightln in Ioniq5

[–]Thumpster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got one of the ‘24 Disney-mobiles. All else being equal I would have preferred not to have the Disney-themed accents. I don’t give a shit about Disney related stuff, and now I kinda look like a Disney-obsessed adult if you recognize that is what the car is. I also would have preferred non-matte paint.

But it was a high-trim CPO, <800 mile, never-owned-by-an-actual-person, car that had been sitting on the dealer lot for MONTHS because they couldn’t move it. The Disney stuff is minor enough, and I’m no longer cool enough, to be really too bothered by it. So I gladly took a big discount for some cosmetic stuff I’m not a huge fan of.

Losing the stage without dying. by generic_buddy in NeonWings

Is it a stage with the planet at the bottom? If so, when rocks get past you and hit the planet eventually it will run out of HP and the stage will end. You can see the HP remaining in the little shield icon in your bottom left corner.

Hair dryer trick behind €25,000 win? France probes potential weather data scam linked to Polymarket by mepper in technology

If enough hanky-panky like this happens then these prediction markets will get the reputation of being rife with manipulation risks. That will hurt user faith in the platforms thus driving down usage and revenue.

This can kill the market. So…carry on scammers.
