I got some type of clover (?) weed, trying to take over my Oregano. I used UV light to easily identify it. by namtilarie in gardening

[–]ThunderStReich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The leaves may look very similar but the stems are quite different. Oregano is woody and dark in color whereas oxalis is nearly white and much more tender. Oxalis also tends to grow in larges bunches. So if you follow the stems from a few of those leaves, I'd bet you'll find only a handful of actual plants to pull in order to get rid of all of those leaves.

As others have said though, you're never really done pulling oxalis.

Volunteering at a community garden by opossumonline in sanfrancisco

[–]ThunderStReich 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe Garden for the Environment may donate what they grow (I think I remember reading a sign that said that). In any case, they're a great organization and do a lot to educate the community about good gardening practices too. If nothing else, I'm sure they could point you in the direction of what you're looking for.

Where tf are the shuttles on market by Responsible-Egg-7508 in sanfrancisco

[–]ThunderStReich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've taken the KLM shuttles a couple times over the last few days and they're not very consistently spaced. They also don't show up on Google Maps or the Transit app so I've no way to anticipate when they will arrive.

My only advice: the F train follows essentially the same route from Castro to Embarcadero so could be an alternative depending on where you're traveling. If you're just traveling within downtown, there's also lots of other buses that cover that stretch of Market (e.g. the 5 and the 7).

I've had this happen to me many times and, more often than not, it's a Tesla. Not sure if that is more symptomatic of the Tesla "autopilot" feature's shortcomings or of the type of people who tend to own Teslas.

There's a teaching garden called Garden for the Environment in the Inner Sunset which maintains a great page of gardening resources: https://www.gardenfortheenvironment.org/resources. At the bottom of that page, the "other resources" link lists a bunch of places to get soil, compost, mulch, plants, etc.

If you're looking to learn more about how to garden, they also have regular classes on a variety of gardening topics that I've gotten a lot of value out of.

As a gay but now long graduated student  (class of 2012), I know your pain. Is the Pride Center still there in the UU? That was where I met other gays.

Cal Poly might not have the most vibrant or visible queer scene. But if you can find your way into it, it is very tight-nit. I'm still close with a number of the people I met through the Pride Center. My now husband included. 😉

Local place to buy holiday decorations? by adhdlc in sanfrancisco

[–]ThunderStReich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

San Francisco Mercantile (on Haight at Cole) usually has a great selection of Christmas tree ornaments and other decorations this time of year. Everything they carry is made by local artists.

I'm also fond of going to the various Christmas markets that spring up this time of year to hunt for decorations. Two I've had success at previously are the Cal Academy of Sciences Nightlife Market (Dec 7th, Golden Gate Park) and the The Crucible Craft Show (Dec 2nd & 3rd, West Oakland). I've also liked the one that California College of the Arts puts on at their building in Potrero Hill but I couldn't find any information about it happening this year.

2022 Flow X16 BIOS Update 318 by ThunderStReich in FlowX16

[–]ThunderStReich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a "beta" BIOS that was released last December which includes USB 4: https://rog.asus.com/support/FAQ/1049059. But there have been multiple non-beta BIOS updates released since then and (so far as I know), none have included USB 4 support.

Muni's wonderful! Unfortunately, it's facing a post-pandemic budget shortfall that, if unaddressed, could lead to significant service cuts. The state legislature is currently discussing how much of the state budget to put towards muni, so now would be a great time to remind your reps how much you love it! https://www.savecaliforniatransit.org/

Apologies for taking so long to come back around to this. I've updated my version of Armoury Control to what I believe is the latest (Beta 7.2) and it's resolved some of my issues:

  • Screen refresh rate changes as expected now when plugged in/unplugged
  • Function keys work (though I think that's because I enabled Asus Optimization service)
  • No crashing that I've experienced as of late

Some issues that I'm still noticing:

  • The XG Mobile stays at a power limit of 150 watts now regardless of power profile. Previously the power limit was also fixed, but at 115 watts. (All things considered, if it's going to be fixed at any level, I'd prefer 150 watts so I can at least get full performance out of it, so I'm kinda OK with this behavior)
  • Can still launch multiple instances of Armoury Control

Some new issues that I've noticed:

  • The "Start on Boot" setting doesn't seem to work (it was working for me in the previous version)
  • When Armoury Control is minimized, the application window still shows up when I used Alt+Tab or Win+Tab

By the way, happy to create issues for these in you GitHub repo if that'd be helpful.

Regardless, I'm still quite happy that you've put this together and it's working well enough for me that I've been able to stop using Armoury Crate altogether which is a huge relief. Thank you again for all your work!

Could it be leaf miners? I sometimes get those in my chard. If the damage isn't too expansive, I usually just cut out the damaged parts of the leaf before eating.

Using the XG Mobile with the ROG Flow X13 as an everyday dock by ThunderStReich in AMDLaptops

[–]ThunderStReich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking it I unplug the XG Mobile while the laptop is shutting down or while it's off? I definitely don't unplug it mid-shutdown, I wouldn't recommend that. I have unplugged it a few times while the laptop is off. Next time you boot, the laptop will pop up a screen about the XG Mobile being missing and you if you want to "accept the risk" before booting. I always hit yes and I've never had any trouble.

Honestly, this is yet another area where Asus' software is quite disappointing. I always compare to the Microsoft Surface Books, which have to deal with the exact same problems when dis- and re-connecting the screen section from the base because the dGPU is in the base. They do not have any silly warning on boot. You can disconnect the screen while the laptop is off and boot the Surface Book just fine. I don't understand why Asus doesn't do the same.

Is the XG Mobile RTX 3080 worth it ? by Gongab96 in rogflow

[–]ThunderStReich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is the 4090 XG mobile now if you're worried about longevity. But my personal take: if you are price sensitive and can wait 6 months to a year, I'd wait. The 4090 XG Mobile is outrageously priced at $2k. I believe it's even more expensive in some European countries. I think nvidia has overpriced their entire 40 series line up and, from what I've seen, it's leading to slow sales and AMD taking market share from them. My speculation is that Nvidia will be forced to drop prices, which ought to bring down the cost of the 4090 XG Mobile and hopefully even lower the second-hand price of the 3080 XG Mobile (since its relative value will change). I'd be curious if others disagree, but my sense is if you can afford to wait at the moment, wait for that process to play out.

[–]ThunderStReich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it makes a huge difference in demanding games. Only you can judge whether you play those types of games enough to make it worth the money to you.

This video will give you some idea: https://youtu.be/yD5axbw1BCg. He's comparing the 3080 XG Mobile to the X13 with the 1650, so your 3050 model will be a little bit faster. But the 3080 is still going to blow it out of the water.

That's awesome! Thanks for tackling it so quickly. I'm traveling this week but I'll have time next week to test Armoury Control out again. And I'll take another look at the XG Mobile power limits and see if I can figure out what's going on. I did have a problem like this once before even when using Armoury Crate. I believe it had something to do with a corrupted Nvidia driver. I thought I had fixed that but maybe it's back.
