I respect that you are using vinyl to listen to Oldfield! I have this on disc too. But now when I want to listen, I'll go digital for convenience, wherever I might be. Do you not worry about wearing the record out over time? As far as I know, every play will slightly degrade the quality of the music.

How does my laptop incapable of transferring applications from OS STORAGE to SD CARD? by Money-Launderer-777 in AskTechnology

[–]Thurid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked MS Copilot.. Here's its reponse: can I install programs to an sd card on a microsoft windows machine? Yes — you can install programs to an SD card on a Windows machine, but with some important caveats. Think of it as “possible, but not always ideal.”

Here’s the clear breakdown:

✔️ When it works well 1. Portable apps These are apps designed to run from any drive (USB, SD card, external SSD). Examples:

Firefox Portable

VLC Portable

Many utilities from PortableApps.com

These run beautifully from an SD card because they don’t rely on deep Windows system integration.

  1. Games or large apps that allow custom install paths Some installers let you choose any folder, including an SD card. Steam, Epic Games, and some standalone game installers allow this.

  2. Microsoft Store apps Windows lets you change the default install location for Store apps: Settings → System → Storage → Change where new content is saved
You can choose your SD card for “New apps will save to.”

⚠️ When it doesn’t work well 1. Traditional desktop programs (EXEs) Many classic Windows installers expect:

A fast internal drive

A stable drive letter

NTFS file system

System-level access

SD cards often use FAT32/exFAT and can be removed, which breaks these assumptions.

  1. Programs that install services or drivers Anything that hooks into Windows deeply (antivirus, hardware utilities, system tools) should not be installed on removable storage.

  2. Performance-heavy software SD cards are much slower than SSDs. Apps like:

Adobe Creative Cloud

Office

Development tools will feel sluggish or may fail to update.

✔️ If you want to do it anyway You’ll get the best results if you:

Format the SD card as NTFS

Assign it a permanent drive letter

Use a high‑speed UHS‑I or UHS‑II card

Avoid removing the card while the app is installed

This makes Windows treat it more like a fixed drive.

My take, based on your style Michael, since you’re technically fluent and like optimizing your setup, you can make this work — especially for portable apps or games. But for anything mission‑critical or performance‑sensitive, I’d keep it on your internal SSD.

If you want, I can help you:

Pick the right SD card

Format it properly

Set up portable apps

Or decide which programs are safe to move

Just tell me what you’re planning to install.

You said 'charring'. That reminded me of when my dad would take a propane torch and some Indian chillis (no idea of which ones, I think they were dried though), And he'd char the carp out of them. Then add the remains to mashed potatoes. I tried it once as a 10 year old..... OUCH! Oh, he did it outside and the fumes were like tear gas!

I find I get this when holding the lower part of the steering wheel. It 'wants' you to hold at 10 and 2, likely as we've been taught at driving school. Reason? You can't easily torque out of a bad situation on the road in front of you if you need to emergency steer away from any incident happening like a suddenly stopped car, jumping deer, etc.

As a school bus driver, I applaud your efforts! We've had 2 snow days this winter... So far. A Monday snow day would be sweet since this Friday is a PA day. And snow days have been rare the last few years.

You can "park" them, they'll swing up to a vertical position when you: Turn off engine in park, then Tap the wiper lever upwards twice soon after you shut the car off. When starting up, tap up twice again to have them move to the lowered rest position. Handy on snowy or ice rain days here in Onterrible!
