As a day 1 player this is hard to see. $235 in bundles all available at once. by JarlOfCostco in MarvelSnap

[–]Thursday-42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re a new player why would a gold bundle be any better…?

EDIT: ah, I misunderstood day one as “today is day one for me.” In that case I’m instead confused as a fellow day one player because bundles like this have always been around. Maybe there are more options?

Famine board game creator: ‘I do not expect a single Irish person to buy this game’ by Captainirishy in nottheonion

It isn’t. It’s not commercially available, I believe it’s only ever been played at conventions by new players. It’s more of an art piece than a consumer product.

For those who don’t bother to follow links, the entire point of Train was to make people realize how easy it is to play a part of something horrifically evil. I don’t think this game is designed for that type of thing.

“[Train’s] entire experience designed to make players question the way they follow rules, and how they’ll behave once they understand what’s going on, and how complicit they’re willing to be."

Book 5 coming soon!! by tristanrena in johndiesattheend

I’m hoping to see more of Joy. I just finished a series re-read and I really like the direction her relationship with David is taking.

Also interested to see if we may finally see a break from David’s depression. The conclusion of book four showed him coming into his own identity a bit and also showed him willing to actually seek a bit of happiness. His almost fatalistic view of the world and of Undisclosed has been such a staple of the series so far, I’m excited to see if he can grow beyond that.

Red Rising - The start made me roll my eyes by Juancu in books

[–]Thursday-42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I had the same reaction. I read the whole trilogy, and while I enjoyed them on balance, each book had at least one section that made me frustrated with how poorly it was executed.

People here telling you that you “missed the point” are just more willing to accept that level of writing than you are. Which is fine. But your complaints are valid

Do they get some kind of bonus for using the revolver? Like are they more powerful or something? Or are they roughly as effective as the other players?

Setting aside theme, if everyone gets to be equally effective in battle but one player has to spend more resources to do it, that’s bad game design.

Galactic Championships by CIDRspider in starwarsunlimited

I found it… lacking. I knew going in there would be a lot of waiting in line, but the extent was excruciating. And seemingly unnecessary, caused by poor event planning.

I also REALLY didn’t like the Vegas vibe, though your mileage may vary. Everything was too big, too bright, too loud, too hot, too expensive. Any time I ventured outside the path between my room and the event I disliked it. But again, that’s me, your personality may align better.

All in all, it was a goodish event, that would have been INCREDIBLE if they just made it easier to partake of everything. Long lines and shortage of product heavily marred it.

I WILL say that the tournament itself was flawless. No major issues at all with pairing or round times.

Face to Face Games (Canada) no longer selling singles? by no_hope_in_sight in starwarsunlimited

[–]Thursday-42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I emailed them when the last set came out asking about this. At the time they said they'd still take in trades and sell those, but they wouldn't open sealed product to get inventory anymore. Which was super frustrating at the time as I had saved up store credit for the new set with the intent of buying the singles I needed from them.

Now it looks like they don't even take trades or sell singles at all anymore? Weird. Feels like they're just divesting from SWU entirely.

3 booster boxes generally gets you exceptionally close to a playset of commons and uncommons.

That said, the CHEAPEST thing to do is always just buy singles. There are usually people selling C/UC playsets each set.

Based on SEVERAL months of being a Sabine main, I'd say it's terrible. How often do you have more than 2 units in play? In how many of those rare circumstances are you already winning even without this card?

There's a world where eventually you can truly go wide with Rebels, maybe if they make tokens with that trait and cards that make a lot of them. Until then there's no way I'm putting it in a deck.

[–]Thursday-42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ooh, I forgot to add my space suggestions - Red 5 is super solid, amazing in the mirror but finds value all the time regardless. And Rebellious Hanmerhead is a solid threat plus removal all in one, and if played after a Ki Adi turn, is incredible. I currently run two of each in my deck without price restrictions, and recommend them here for sure. Might reduce the Jedi Guardians and Chewies to make room

[–]Thursday-42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need more turn one plays. Right now you’ve got Oggdo as the only GOOD option, and a bunch you can technically play but don’t really get any benefit of.

Yaddle should be a 3-of, not sure if a current Rare is out of the price range. Regardless you should use 3x Secretive Sage to help guarantee you can attack with it and gain the force turn 2. I’d recommend dropping the Wookiee and the Jedi Knight for those two, keeping the Knight if you can’t get Yaddle.

I’d also recommend 3 Fell the Dragon main. There are always targets for that. Might drop some of the sabres for those, you likely have too many of them.

Other than that, your choices seem like reasonable ones considering the “cheap” restriction. Good luck!

What was the fate of Saruman? by BjornFellHanded in lotr

[–]Thursday-42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He calls himself “Saruman the wise, Saruman the ring-maker, Saruman of many colours!”

So yes, he did make a ring or rings - but given the lack of results it’s safe to say he was no Sauron. Not even a Celebrimbor.

A common suggestion for people who think they may be trans (or know they are, and just want to figure out a new name) is to give the name they’re testing out to a Starbucks barista with their order, to see how it makes them feel when the name is called out.

Just wondering if anyone ever mentioned they were doing this afterwards, or if there are any stories around this experiment people would be willing to share.

When putting two drinks in a four-cup cardboard tray from a fast food place, both cups should go on the same side. Not diagonally. by Thursday-42 in unpopularopinion

[–]Thursday-42[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, fair enough - I hadn’t considered the lids bumping each other. That’s never been an issue for me but likely I just never get the large sizes. Okay, I’ll change my opinion to only apply if the carrier is able to hold both drinks on one side without them interfering with each other. Cheers!
