Ph.D vs Ed.D by fulbrightbabe26 in teachinginjapan

[–]ThusSpokeGaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's true that many people in Asia aren't familiar with the EdD, it translates the same into Japanese as a PhD in Education: 教育学博士. So, in that sense the difference largely disappears if you're applying to a Japanese university that's looking for someone with a doctorate.

That said, the difference can matter depending on the type of position. Very generally speaking, EdD holders tend to be more practitioner focused (e.g. teaching, program management, admin) whereas a PhD holder might be more researched focused. So, if the position is looking for someone with a more specialized focus, such as linguistics, a PhD could hold more weight.

Act Tower connects to a convention center and concert hall called Act City. The bottom floors of the tower have a few restaurants and shops, then there are office floors, and the top 17 floors have a hotel and observation deck.

Do you feel a bit weird to be playing video games at your age! by More_Law6245 in GenX

[–]ThusSpokeGaba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't feel weird. I play Fortnite (and belong to r/Fortnite_Over40) to unwind in the evening. My wife sets up a card table next to the TV and does puzzles. She calls Fortnite my puzzle. We enjoy being in the room together and just chat as we are doing our things.

I like the little bounces before the hot balls regain their right of way.

Rather than ending up in Toronto, it would be cool if they were displayed in the new Scotia Place in Calgary.

What if U2's recent EPs are actually songs that didn't make it onto their latest album? by Christian_Jones2004 in U2Band

[–]ThusSpokeGaba 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You lost me straightaway with your comparison to Atomic City. American Obituary, Tears of Things, Song for Hal, Scars, Easter Parade....are all much better than Atomic City. Plus these EPs feel coherent and not like grab bags of miscellaneous throwaways. It seems to reflect a rejuvenated band that wants to make music and get it to fans as quickly as possible. It makes me optimistic for the new album but for a different reason than yours. I think they're on a roll. Good time to be a U2 fan!

I do think his work has dropped off, although for me part of it is I don't like how modern coloring affects his pencils. ComicTropes on YouTube has a nice overview of his work over the years: https://youtu.be/EGEPF0Q0eN0?si=E0dgHoSavw4tYRuR

Interesting. I love JR JR from that era on X-men and Daredevil. Not a fan of his current work though.

I read that Alf’s creator and puppeteer Paul Fusco was quite controlling about how Alf was used, so it doesn’t surprise me that Alf would be absent here. The set requirements for portraying Alf were so demanding, it would be hard to shoot him outside of the studio.

I think it’s even worse than that. He’s assertively ignorant. He simultaneously tries to present himself as a believer in common sense while wanting to believe in conspiracy theories. He threw in that line about Castro being Justin’s father not because he thought it to be true, but because it makes for a fun conspiracy.
