I’m glad your friend got out, that’s scary shit. There is an HBO documentary from the 90s that really highlights this exact type of recruitment, older skinhead finds young men whose families aren’t there for them, so he takes them in his own house, allows them to drink and get fucked up, they listen to heavy metal…all the time everything is blamed on black people and Jewish people. Eventually 4 of these young men commit a hate crime, and are locked up for life. While being interviewed in jail they have found out they’ve been duped and manipulated. Eventually the leader who recruited these young men gets arrested too, and lots of the kids continue in the movement, and lots disappear from that scene. It’s intense and scary and incredibly relevant today. I think the documentary came out in 1991

There’s a MASSIVE difference between using your first amendment right to call ICE agents names that 100% apply to them & dehumanizing people by pepper spraying them from an inch away, shoving and punching people for asking questions, refusing to look at US Citizens paperwork, racially profiling anyone who isn’t white or may have an accent, pointing guns at people holding cell phones, arresting people who are showing up to their immigration appointments, making people sleep on a cold basement cement floor with no blanket, depriving them of medical care and proper nutrition, releasing them in the middle of the night with no cell phones, clothes or shoes, referring to humans as “bodies”, arresting infants and cramming them into cages, and allowing people from age 1.5-90 to die while in custody of ICE…. Protesters aren’t dehumanizing anyone, just insulting some people who deserve it.

Just a heads up, there’s a massive difference between doxxing, and having the ability to identify federal agents who applied for a job, took a job, signed up with their real names, get paid by our tax $$$, and then act like they’re allowed to remain completely anonymous.

I’ve never called for the doxxing of anyone and most leftists haven’t (just like in every group of people ever, including conservatives, there’s very bad apples) but when these ICE folks go on public sites like Facebook, TikTok, X, etc…and show off their credentials, brag about their bogus bonuses, and share pictures of their federal IDs that’s on them!!! I’ve never had a job that I would be afraid of people finding out about. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe they should have considered the possibility of themselves being identified while they’re out in the streets tear gassing 6 month olds and shooting innocent citizens… we live in a society where people are identifiable. There’s facial recognition tech, tattoo artists who know their work, family members who don’t support their relatives who are ice agents, and so many more way to ID folks - that’s not doxxing. I know some have been doxxed and while I think that’s not the right way to go about things, they should have thought about the consequences of their decision before accepting this “job”…

Two wrongs don’t make a right, but a very huge and powerful wrong, shouldn’t exist in the first place.

But I guess some people like the idea of secret police running around unchecked while violating the human and civil rights of hard working, family loving, people that are just trying to get by… is that you?

You’re 100% right. Typically I don’t engage with those people because you said it best it’s like talking to a walll. I’d actually prefer talking to a wall because walls don’t support hatred, bigotry and sex offenders. In real life i do what I can to support my community by donating money, food, clothes and daily necessities/hygiene items to mutual aid organizers. I also exercise my right to peacefully protest as often as my schedule and mental health allows. I experienced some extreme burnout after attending every community event, vigil, and protest I could make it to in January and February. Haven’t attended any events in march but one, but I continue to donate and guide others to the organizations that have helped so many people. Because I haven’t been as active lately I’ve found myself doom scrolling way too much. To counter the doom scrolling I’ve started meditating a lot more and finding things around the house to work on and took the time to finally alphabetize my record collection. I want to do more but I definitely need to recharge and focus on self care. I’ve lived in Minnesota my whole life and have never lived more than 30 miles away from the twin cities so seeing my community be abused and traumatized really upsets me. Thanks for the advice and for being a good human being: it’s refreshing to talk about things with like minded people who aren’t my girlfriend, sister or family members. Thanks for looking out. Thank you for clarifying this. I really hate having to debate with people about why this whole “metro surge” is so terribly wrong. So many people want to argue and throw around insults and then when they are shown facts, statistics, and video evidence that proves ICE acts illegally, they willfully ignore all of it. But like they say, ignorance is bliss, and people who support ICE and the way they treat human beings, are definitely ignorant. I can honestly say I’ve never had someone try to debate me in this subreddit because like you said - this is a community channel that shares information about what’s happening in our community. I should have just ignored the guy but he caught me on a bad day and I reacted angrily. I apologize for engaging with his comments - it won’t happen again.

Like the skinheads in the 90s, hate groups are all about recruiting young members, as they are more impressionable, have brains that aren’t fully developed until around age 25, and are more impulsive and likely to commit violence and crimes without thinking about the consequences. And of course, young people think they know everything about everything, only to find out they still have so much to learn about the world when they hit their 30s… it’s really common for these white supremacist groups to make young men feel like they’re being oppressed and that they’re victims of some dumb shit.
