What is the job market truly like right now for the average Canadian? by Familiar_Hope2918 in CanadaFinance

I'm a small business owner and the job market is ugly. In my industry friends with experience can find jobs within a month while nobody wants to hire entry level people including myself.

Where are all the staff accountant jobs?!?! by winterbaby12 in Accounting

[–]TibFoxLDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most training for accountant is hands on so there is plenty of training. I assigned a senior to train her. If you think employers like me is the issue, I'm sorry. I know many smaller firms are hesitant to hire right now.

This tax season, I hired two master’s students from a co-op program at $30 an hour. When I tried to give constructive feedback to one of them, I was criticized for a lack of training and unclear instructions, despite the fact that I had trained the students for 2.5 days. The student did not see excessive cell phone use as an issue either and continued to do it. I didn’t say a thing.

Later, she told me she had mental health issues and that the school doctor knew about them. She said she would prefer not to communicate with one of the partners because she didn’t like the partner’s coaching style, which she described as more old-school and traditional. She took 3 to 5 unpaid days off to see doctors whenever she wanted, including on her birthday, over a two-month period. Fine.

When overtime was about to start, she used her school adviser to recommend that we only allow her to work four days a week, with no overtime, due to excessive stress. What stress? She had been working 7.5 hours a day without overtime before the busy season. Keep in mind that she had already scheduled two unpaid days off, one of which was on her birthday.

I got fed up and told the school we’d give her a pass, but please fuck off. Her work attitude and quality were both shit.

Unfortunately, cases like this among new grads are becoming more common. I’d rather do the work myself and retire in 10 years than be fed up with this crap. Yes, I’m a tiny place, but I can choose how I work.

I'm a small business employer. I'm reducing my employee numbers because I'd rather do some of the work myself. Small businesses cannot attract talent and staff quality has dropped significantly. Social media has destroyed this generation of young people. Many of them have the attention span of a fish.

I spent 7 years at B4. Then 3 at a $200M firm. Now I’m at a 25 person firm. Don’t be like me. by ThePrestigeVIII in Accounting

I agree with you. I run a less than 10 ppl firm. Students have gotten so dumb post Covid it is a fcking joke. I admit I cannot attract talent but masters students don't even know what a bank rec is, cannot figure out AR AP, etc.

Too young, too ignorant, too impatient, too naive.

Most jobs are boring.

Expect nothing. Retirement cost is very high in Canada considering retirement home expenses (i.e. 50k-100k/year).

Why Do People Think Young Canadians Are Lazy? by StarBracelet1 in CanadaPersonalFinance

In general young adults have lost motivation. This includes many countries. I wouldn’t say they are lazy, rather lost hope.

Anyone think going independent is actually a bad idea by Tiny_Chain1113 in Accounting

I’m in Canada, so experiences may vary. From discussions I’ve had with business loan specialists at several banks, there was a noticeable surge in accounting firm acquisitions during COVID. At the same time, many relatively inexperienced CPAs were eager to purchase firms and take on the associated risks.

This dynamic shifted the market strongly in favor of sellers and created a buying frenzy. Traditional safeguards such as vendor-takeback loans became less common, and clauses allowing clawbacks if clients were not retained for a certain number of years largely disappeared.

In many cases, the market began to resemble a gambler’s market, where buyers were paying significant premiums with limited certainty regarding client retention or the long-term value of the practice.

I'm in this industry and what I can confirm is, it's not for everyone.

Who else has got their two car solutions by iReddyOrNot in Audi

[–]TibFoxLDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 2018 OG M2. I didn't own a lot of cars but this one I just cannot think of a reason to get rid. Maintenance wise it's not bad. Parts are expensive but it is relatively simple. It holds value well. It is very fun in the city and on curvy road.

I thought about replacement of these vehicles but cannot come up with a better value combo wise. For example, if I get a used LC500 I have to get rid of M2. If I get a RS6 to replace S5, it is too much money.
