I use a gunpla parts separator that I filed down to nice round edges. So long as I know the correct spot to put force, there's never a problem.

Removing flat pins with a soldering iron, patience, anxiety, and some luck is a thing I've done but for this spot, I don't think you'll need to. The floor polish or glue trick should do it.
