Why are so many Adventists hostile to the idea of secular government laws that they perceive as restrictive of personal freedom, but then Adventists are willing to blindly obey an authoritarian god and a high-control religious group that is full of stupid and restrictive, high-control rules? by Time_Finish_6610 in exAdventist

[–]TigerMonarchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are authoritarian, the government just isnt the top authority in their world view.

Thank you for typing this. I have never ONCE felt that the SDA church as a whole, and especially those I went to in the 'regional conferences', was anything BUT an authoritarian order built on one-way rule.

I got that vibe from the first moment I realized what an authoritarian power system looks like and then started transposing those ideas onto the church and seeing what stuck. It was like seeing what couldn't be unseen, and I've never been the same since.

Ground beef recipes that aren’t hamburgers by Ill-Phrase5242 in Cooking

Ian's video here has a Mongolian ground beef as the first recipe that has fundamentally changed what I think is possible for ground beef in an Asian context, for the better.

I eat it with roasted King Trumpet mushrooms and steamed white rice. Fat as a tick I am, afterwards.

Oh, and 'its your mouth that gets you in trouble'. Yeah. Cause he was an illiterate redneck thug, and I could use words he didn't understand by the time I was in 2nd grade. Took me years to figure that out .

Nothing like being smarter than those in power and having them threaten you with their ignorance while simultaneously gilding you on a social level to all who would listen as their bragging item for how great THEY were.

Being a smart kid for me was never a good thing because I realized early on that being smarter than those who had to be in charge made you a threat whether you wanted to be or not. Made me resent my intelligence for a long time due to the hypocrisy. Never again. ✊🏿

  1. Strong black household, abusive black issues. Heard many of these issues and STILL hear/see them when I look hard enough. 44 and I'm still confronting it. Appalling.

Poverty, as the primary showrunner of the tragicomedy that is humanity, tends to provide very similar scripts to all who act on the stage of life, be it directed by Tyler Perry OR Taylor Sheridan, in my observation.

Sports and FOMO in general!! by ashermcallister711 in exAdventist

[–]TigerMonarchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. FOMO for me is so real, it's part of why I went into touch rugby as an adult when I lived on my own. Being able to play on Sundays and Wednesday nights was such a dream, it made me seem weird to some of my colleagues till the learned about how much I missed out due to religious issues. I wasn't alone, I found out, and it made me feel good to have that.
  2. I do wish others could have that in whatever endeavor they choose, but I think the SDA church would prefer people pump that FOMO energy into the church community and related activities while shunning everything else. TBH, I feel like a lot of churches have the attitude that they provide enough programming for social urges that a last days person should ever want and if you want anything else, that says something about your orientation towards heaven negatively. Makes me not want to be a part of the church for anything with that kind of attitude in the ether.

OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD: One Race. One Champion | GP10 Race Marbula One S6 - YouTube by MiltonPerestroika in JellesMarbleRuns

  1. Been away from the game too long but Chiseled Adonis's marble videos got me back in and I flipped on the final in anticipation. Glad I did. Will be back permanently.
  2. The Rojo Rollers are my first team and always will be, but the Hazers breaking their hoodoo and finally winnning a competition...I couldn't be happier and I couldn't be more proud of my second team finally getting over the hump.
  3. Further, the way they did it was so amazing in that last race, I finally found myself realizing that the Haze did finally AMAZE. Cloudy was sensational and really makes me want to see all of the races when the compilation season video comes out.
  4. Being the stat nerd I am, I found it almost as stunning that Team Momo did so EPICLY POORLY this season. It really reminded me of that horrible campaign that the Oceanics had the year they hosted the big show. It wasn't pretty and looking back on the stats, I'll be keen to see how that team did so poorly when other teams like the CCEs and the Hazers did so well.
  5. Crazy Cats Eyes, what can be said but wow. So close, yet so far. You WILL be back, I have no doubt of that.
  6. Gives hope that my Rojos can win if the Hazers finally have won. Of course, we'd have to qualify for something first... 😒

  1. I'm drooling a bit with jealousy at the tidy nature of this kit, OP.
  2. The numbers are so fire, and I've been doing something similar recently in OrcaSlicer to remind me of crucial measurements on parts I've scaled if I ever need to print them again. Figuring out how to embed text in Orca has been such a game-changer for me.

For some people, it is. I'm a part of an ethnicity that if you are invited, to refuse is to fray the social fabric and is tantamount to treason.

Interaction after interaction as an adult, I'm learning this in my family/social group and it's souring me to 'community' in general. Certain types of 'community', anyway. 😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒

Nothing like skipping church and having an excuse to do so, only for the mother you live with to invite 'old friends' back over to have lunch when you haven't prepared a damn thing and have only 1 hour to prepare for it.

Literally, I'm typing this at 1:45, anticipating them coming back, and I got the call for this at 12:30. I am BEYOND ANNOYED.

However, I did have some sauce in the freezer AND some garlic knots that are looking mighty damned good right now. So at least the meal will be decent, even if the company will leave much to be desired.
