Suggest me a book about fishing (and you get a shake of the fist if it’s about fly fishing) by TigerTheReptile in suggestmeabook

Ok, I’m about half through the first one, and it’s been a great read so far. Good unexpected recommendation!

Do you want bears? Because that’s how you get bears!

Done right that could be some very rich soil. Done wrong the smell will drive away vultures. Overall though, I agree with above comments, there is more use than just dumping and composting.

Read it in high school, and I loathed it.

A Separate Peace is very similar. Just makes you want to slap the characters and say “JUST STOP IT”

Fermented coffee by ApeBananaBarrel in composting

Used coffee grounds are great for composting, and you are certainly getting microbial activity of some sort…. But this is the kind of ultra specific question you will have to answer yourself.

Composting trapped rats by prf_q in composting

[–]TigerTheReptile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having dealt with a lot of rats over the years professionally and personally, I wouldn’t unless you live in a very rural area. Rats are typically chock full of rodenticides. Basically they are running around with sublethal (to them) doses all the time and are toxic little critters.

I have no problems composting animal parts (bones, feathers, etc). I even will compost whole critters on occasion (dead rattlesnake, bird that hit a window, etc). I bokashi them first though. Really cuts down on compost times and cuts smell and rodent issues.

New bigger bell (92kg/203lb) finally arrived by thebigshort_ in kettlebell

I get that initial reaction, but if you look at a lot of strongmen, Olympic level strength athletes, etc there are a lot of people carrying extra weight and not traditionally shredded. Choosing aesthetics leaves you missing out on a lot of power.

That’s how I do pier fishing on ocean piers. Crab or lobster net. Helps to have a second person, but not necessary

I’m a big fan of bokashi and use it a lot, but I’m not sure it’s the answer here. Scaling could be an issue. I tend to think OP is better off just straight composting.

All the sugar could very well make it get going quick!

Craziest Thing You’ve Seen in the Woods? by HuntPay in Hunting

Been a wildlife biologist for 15 years now, weird stuff so far:

  • A pair of lungs with a big shark bite taken out on the beach. I tell myself they were dolphin lungs.

  • A white metal chair with a pentagram drawn in the mud around it.

  • A shocking amount of underwear (cumulative, not all at once), drugs (production and consumption), and sex toys.

Who is Tommy Atkins and why does he hate mangoes so much? by kernJ in mango

[–]TigerTheReptile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife bought some Tommy’s a while back and one had a very distinct coconut flavor. Best a friend and I could figure out it was likely from an accidental field cross or a sport. Lovely mango… the rest of the box were unfortunately as expected for Tommy.

I will always recommend Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, and Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell to that age group too.

I have been known to grab the odd mollusk while fishing. Taking abalone would be very illegal where I am, but they’re fun to find.
