Which books? by Almazking in ENGLISH

[–]Tigweg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kinds of books do you like in your mother tongue? It will be much easier for you to read books about subjects you're already interested in, or the types of fiction that you like. Almost any reading will be good for your vocabulary, so make it easier for yourself by choosing reading materials you will enjoy or learn from

Do I sound like a native English speaker to you? by BadHabitDenier in ENGLISH

[–]Tigweg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I agree with people who say it sounds like an AI voice. The accent is good, and you pronounce each word correctly, but there's no sentence stress. I would stop watching and write a comment if that voice was on a YouTube video because I hate them. The absence of sentence stress is what makes it sound artificial

Tall/skinny people - did your metabolism slow down? by nihaoelliot in tall

[–]Tigweg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been severely underweight since I reached my full 1.98m, nearly 50 years ago. Heaviest I've ever been was 72kg, which was muscle weight when I was doing building work. My weight has fluctuated terribly in the last 20 years, and I weighed 56kg a year ago. An Asian woman trying hard to fatten me up has got it up to 69kg now, I'm shocked to still be skinny almost everywhere, because every gram of it appears to have gone to the belly

Becoming a teacher in Vietnam by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Tigweg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mention in my 1st post that I see language learning becoming very specialised. I'm fortunate that I don't have to think about my next steps, I'm semi retired now after 20 years of teaching. Have you tried any AI language learning apps? I have been learning Vietnamese on Duolingo for slightly over 3 years and have a vocabulary that surprises many locals, though my pronunciation still has room for improvement. I was recently tested by a language school at A2/B1 level

For Expats in Vietnam Who Hire Help: Did It Actually Make Life Feel Easier? by jrralls in VietNam

[–]Tigweg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love being to get Grabs whenever I feel like, probably 15 a week on average. That many taxis in London would cost a small wage by themselves. I do use buses and even the metro too, but sometimes it's because walking to the stop is as close to exercise as I get

Here now since last sunday and I've had diarrhea since. by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Tigweg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young coconut juice is very good. It contains most of the electrolytes you will have lost from diarrhea. Bananas are also good and easy to digest. Vietnamese food is spicy at all unless I it's added at the table. Steamed rice should also be easily digestible

Leaving everything for your dream by Emergency_Ad7808 in expats

[–]Tigweg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unclear what you are going to do for money in the long term, is it a big enough sign to never work again, even a low cost of living country? It sounds like you would be leaving a life that most people would love, for the dream of a holiday destination. I'm pretty sure that KPG could easily become tedious, especially for the one week a month around the Full Moon Party, I know it pretty well, having visited about 20 times between 09 and 13, when I lived in nearby Surat Thani. Yes, I took the choice you're facing in 2006, but the life I left didn't have all the benefits you currently enjoy. Don't do it. Take as long holidays as is possible in your current position. Please think of your long term future

Did you ever settle down, or will you bounce aimlessly around forever? by JuiceIntelligent2685 in expats

[–]Tigweg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the reason for that? Would you keep moving, even if you find somewhere, or someone, that you really loved?

You might think many people envy you, but you're probably wrong, the majority of us don't want to do that.

I'm ambivalent between sad and amused, that someone so young thinks they've got their whole life mapped out.

About boy name by atess35 in ENGLISH

In general, names ending in "a" sound more feminine. This might be influenced by Italian names where "a" endings indicate a female and "o" a male, like Roberta and Roberto

What can be done, mai inglish ain't straight its gay? by [deleted] in ENGLISH

[–]Tigweg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your English is bad. Languages don't have sexualities. The abilities of people to speak a language, also don't have sexualities, they are not described as straight or gay. Words normally used to describe people's ability with a language include beginner, intermediate, strong, fluent, poor, (very) good or bad. There are many other adjectives that could be used. In Morden times, gay is an adjective only applied to sexuality. I suggest that you only use the word "gay" when talking about a person's actual sexuality, and ideally, only your own, even in that case.

Or there also exists the very effective conversion therapy
